What's ironic, if that's the right word to use, is that Disney World was primary meant as a way to make Walt's main project EPCOT possible, but when he died too early the park itself become the main goal and EPCOT transformed into just another attraction amongst several others.
(It has probably been mentioned several times already, but if he hadn't gone through the cancer surgery he wouldn't have died because of the complications that followed, and could have lived long enough to get the real EPCOT started.)
