Hocus Pocus (Remake)

I'd much prefer a sequel than a TV remake.
Disney Channel is in early stages of development on a Hocus Pocus TV movie, a reimagining of the 1993 cult classic Walt Disney feature, which starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. The new take is being written by Scarlett Lacey (The Royals), with David Kirschner, producer on the original movie, on board to executive produce. The new Hocus Pocus iteration will have a new cast and a new director. Ortega, who has directed Disney Channel’s two biggest TV movie franchises, High School Musical and Descendants, is not involved.

Good God, NO, I do not want this. The original is still one of my fav Halloween films. Hocus Pocus doesn't work without Midler and Najimy anyway.
On the bright side, with it being made at Disney channel quality (in other words, bottom of the barrel), it’ll probably disappear into the void a few years after it’s made.

Yea OMG no Disney what the hell this is one of your best movies the way it is! And you have no "well this time it's live-action!" difference to give any reason for it other than "well, the first one didn't do well in theatres".

Will promptly ignore this like I have been ignoring the Descendants films.

Do a sequel with the original ladies, not this absolute rubbish. The original is still way too loved and cracked out every Halloween to justify ?!
Especially as ALL actresses said they would come back !

Well, cheap is absolutely right.
Like I said earlier in the thread, that may be a good thing so the film might disappear fast. ....But who am I kidding; I can imagine the Disney channel airing this trash every year for the next half-decade. Might as well take a piss on everything, right, Disney?

I agree. This remake is so pointless and unnecessary.

I read this today too, glad Bette is so vocal about her opinions on these things! She is absolutely right. No-one could take over her character and do it right.

The original writer might be involved in the remake.
Filmmaker Mick Garris wrote the original film, though the studio system and frequent revisions resulted in the family-friendly Halloween-themed adventure not coming to life until eight years later, with a variety of writers contributing their own ideas into the narrative. Despite the detachment from his original script and the final product, Garris confirmed he'd gladly get involved in a follow-up film.
"I would love to. It was a thing of the past, but it was not a bad experience," Garris shared with ComicBook.com about helping develop a new film. "It's not unusual for studios to go through other writers. They did 11 other writers after me, and the first movie didn't get made until eight years after I had worked on it. But it ended up, even with all those writers, going back to the basic structure that I had done originally, which is why I've got three credits on the movie. But yeah, they are going to do a re-imagining of it with none of the original cast. They're doing it for Freeform, I believe. They are developing the script now. I've talked to David Kirschner, the producer, who I like a lot, about it, and if there's a way I can be involved I would love to."

Sadly I now have to watch this at least once because I love Jordin Sparks. Pray for me everybody, that I may survive.
