This thread is dedicated to Serena Valentino's books about Disney villains. Jeffrey Thomas is the illustrator of the covers.
Nine novels have been released so far with more on the way. Is anyone a fan of the series?

Re: Serena Valentino Villain Books
I enjoyed them. I didn't know she'd written a fourth novel. My favorite was Fairest of All. Poor Unfortunate Souls was my least favorite.

Re: Serena Valentino Villain Books
Only the Evil Queen book is good. The Beast's book completely butchers the source material imo. Establishing that Gaston and the Prince were best friends as children and that the Prince had not one, but two "loves" before Belle came into the picture. Belle is barely present and not done very well either imo while all that characterization that she needed goes to the weird three sisters who were great as background characters in the first, but take up too much of the plotline in the second. It gets worse with Ursula's book which is literally not even her story. It's pretty much all about the three sisters while Ursula is reduced to a background role in the very book that she's headlining. I'm assuming Maleficent will keep up this trend and she'll only have a cameo appearance in her own book.

Re: Serena Valentino's Villains (Book Series)
I noticed that all of the villains she chose so far undergo a physical transformation of some kind. Based on that, here's what I think the next villains she'll write about will be.
Jafar
Madam Mim
Yzma
Queen Narissa
Kenai
Rourke
King Candy/Turbo
Te Ka/Te Fiti
Judge Doom
Mor'du

Re: Serena Valentino's Villains (Book Series)
I think that has more to do with Disney's most popular villains tending to have magical powers since they hail from fairy tale films. I would like to see books on Jafar and Lady Tremaine though. Cruella and Frollo as well although I'm not sure if Cruella would fit very well into the shared universe (not that this stopped Once Upon a Time), and I know Disney would never touch Frollo.Sotiris wrote:I noticed that all of the villains she chose so far undergo a physical transformation of some kind. Re: Serena Valentino's Villains (Book Series)
The next Disney Villains book, after The Odd Sisters, is coming in July 2020 and based on the author's clues it will probably be about Lady Tremaine. There are two more books planned after that.
Here are the author's clues about which villain is the subject matter of book 7.

Re: Serena Valentino's Villains (Book Series)
It turns out Cruella is the subject of book 7 and not Lady Tremaine.
Source: https://thedisneyblog.com/2019/07/22/di ... ns-series/While little information beyond Cruella herself has been announced, we do know that Cruella’s story, currently titled Evil Thing: A Tale of that Devil Woman, is set to hit shelves next summer. Of the book, Valentino says:
“Cruella’s story is in a different part of the world and completely different timeline than the previous books, but still in the same universe I’ve created for this series. We will catch up with the Odd Sisters and gang in later books. I explore [Cruella’s] childhood, and upbringing, which in my opinion is pretty sympathetic, but of course nothing excuses being a would-be puppy murderer! Her story isn’t redemptive, but it is relatable. Keep exploring the journal pages in the Odd Sisters book. There are important clues and Easter eggs that pertain to the next three books!”

Re: Serena Valentino's Villains (Book Series)
Either Disney themselves wanted her to do one on Cruella now for cross-promotion, or she decided it would be good for business herself.

Re: Serena Valentino's Villains (Book Series)
The subject of the next book is Lady Tremaine.
Source: https://www.laughingplace.com/w/article ... ok-series/“I'm really excited to share Lady Tremaine's story with my readers,” says Valentino. “She's the second villain in the series (in recent history) who doesn't use magic, but unlike Cruella's story which took place entirely outside of the magical realms, Lady Tremaine's story will also take place in The Many Kingdoms.” For newcomers to the series, The Many Kingdoms is the primary magical realm in which much of the action happens in Valentino’s versions of her Disney Villain stories.
“I think the main difference [from prior Villains novels] is that Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella are not from The Many Kingdoms. It's pretty heartbreaking really, they travel so far from home, away from everything and everyone they know to a magical land where anything is possible only to find themselves miserable and at the mercy of magical beings, with no magic of their own. If anyone could have used a Fairy Godmother, I'd say it was Lady Tremaine and her daughters.”
“It was so intriguing to me to have a non-magical character in a magical land, especially a character as stoic and cold as Lady Tremaine having to deal with the likes of the Odd Sisters, Fairy Godmother, and Nanny,” Valentino said. “While the Odd Sisters are at the heart of the story, Lady Tremaine, Drizella, and Anastasia remain the focus, with the Odd Sisters, and the fairies weaving in and out of the pages reminding us that The Book of Fairy Tales is ever present.”
