If these illustrations are really based on the remake, it seems The DisInsider was wrong about Scar's appearance. Well, either that or Disney has finally decided not making him an albino lion.

Gray Pumbaa will take some time to get used to. Surprising that there is no Timon pictured. Also the hyenas don't look gray anymore.

He's there in the backpack with Simba and Pumbaa. You have to look carefully. I missed him at first too

What little enthusiasm I had for this in the first place is evaporating.

Sorry to say, but these take me back to 1994/95 when cheap Lion King rip-off products were flooding the market.

I think the merchandise pictures look awful but the movie thankfully won't look like that.

They claim it was changed during post-production. I'm not sure I believe that.
Q: New look at The Lion King. PS: Scar won't be white!

The DisInsider: Possibly changed in post production.

No, they're brownish-gold now like the lions.

My first thought was that he kind of looks like an otter...a little? His head just seems otter or seal-shaped? I think it's not showing his ears from what I can see and that's why.

These are illustrations based on CGI animals that are modelled to be closely resembling photorealistic animals. These drawings are not representative for the final looks in the movie. While certain characteristics will most certainly be similar. the overall look will not. Just compare the drawings of Simba in these products to the final look of Simba in the teaser poster. We need to wait for the actual final look of the characters before we can really pass judgement on their looks, I think...

Just keep in mind that they are going for photorealism in this movie, not the cartoony look we all love and hold dear to our hearts from the animated original!

Unfortunately the overwhelming feeling I get whilst looking at all of these images is just .... pointless. I can't get my head around a hand drawn film remade in CGI then have merchandise based on cartoon versions of the CGI..... :?

I really hate this stylized artwork. I understand it is not representative of the movie’s character designs, but these products make even the good guys look menacing. Very creepy.

It seem with this and that leaked Aladdin bottle/cup picture, that they are taking a new approach to merch based on live action films. Before they'd just use stills and clipped photo images from the movie(sometimes run through an artsy filter,) now it seems they are creating new 2d artwork based on the look of the characters in the live action films specifically for use on the merch.

I have mixed feelings on this, I feel like its another attempt to replace the "outdated" original 2-d animation designs.

anyway, glad to finally get a first look at the hyenas, and they're...cute! :D

So niether the white lion or the removed song turned out to be true? Who was the source on that because we need to stop using them as any kind of source.

I mean, yeah. How could they remove that song? It's an iconic villain song. I presumed Elton John accidentally left it out when he was talking about the score.

Q: How many cuts of The Lion King have you seen?

Alan Horn: Four. Bring a handkerchief. It's so emotional. But it's a remake of an animated film, so there must be some percentage of the audience who will say, "Well, I saw the first picture." All I can say for sure is you cannot tell these animals aren't real.

Lies. CG has not gotten that good yet. Maybe the birds in the distance will look real, but no way the close ups will look real.

We won't be able to tell they're not real... until they open their mouth and start to speak.
