I've learned from a reliable source (whose identity won't reveal for obvious reasons) that a show based on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is currently in the works. It's commissioned by DCPI for Disney Digital Network. It's still in development so, it's not a done deal yet.

Update: The source is now circulating online so it's pointless not to post it here as well.

Mark Baldo who works as a supervising producer at Disney Digital Network revealed on his LinkedIn account that he's developing an Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series.

A little off-topic, but I hope Universal don't throw away their version of Oswald, but reprints the old comics and release the cartoons. Maybe even make new material.

Oswald's design and name belongs to Disney now, but that does not include Universal's redesign of the character. If they could use that design, and give him a new name, I can't see why they shouldn't be able to use him themselves. Perhaps they could make a deal with Disney. Disney gets the rights to all the non-Disney Oswald shorts till Monkey Wretches, and in return Universal is free to do whatever they want with the redesigned character.

I hope this is true. Oswald needs more love and especially more promotion. I'm not saying he needs to be the face of Disney like Mickey, but I'd like him to be more prominent, especially in the Parks.
