Source: https://www.imdb.com/video/vi2792079129 ... s093993028Q: Are you really involved with live-action Little Mermaid?
Lin-Manuel Miranda: Yeah, bro.
Q: And is it with...?
Lin-Manuel Miranda: It's with Alan Menken. So, we've written some new songs for the [movie]. [...] I was the first one to be like 'Hey, Little Mermaid is pretty dope. I'm not going to write the song that messes up Little Mermaid.' So, we were really careful about picking moments that we could really expand on and felt like they belonged in the same movie as everything else. I'm like the most allergic to gratuitously-added songs. So, yeah, they're in rehearsal right now in London.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
I'm open to the new songs, I suppose. I'm not a fan by any means, but, I don't know, I'm sure it'll be okay as long as they're songs for Ariel. I liked "How Far I'll Go." Sebastian definitely doesn't need more to sing in this film considering he already has two showstoppers, and I doubt there's any way Miranda could match "Under the Sea" or "Kiss the Girl" for me. I mean, I know he can't top "Part of Your World" either, but maybe he can come up with something that matches "Beyond My Wildest Dreams." And I'd rather they not give Ursula anything considering "PUS" itself probably won't be any good here.
Speaking of Miranda, I saw a preview of the film version of In the Heights during the Grammy's last night and it looks good. I know very little about it. I think I've only heard one song from it and that's only because Jordin Sparks was in the show at one time. I'll probably give it a go even though Hamilton wasn't as great for me as everyone made it out to be (I did like "It's Quiet Uptown").

I just hope Disney doesn't end up cutting almost all of the new songs

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Linda Wolverton said Mrs. Potts is supposed to be his mother, and that she and the rest of the 1991 crew never thought she was too old to be his mother. I don't remember the exact place the link is, but it was in some Beauty and the Beast thread here, I forget which thread or even if it was the animated or live-action movie it was talking about. Also, if they made Mrs. Potts Chip's mother in the remake, that is a clue she was always his mother.DisneyJedi wrote:I meant in the animated film. Some kids call their grandmothers “mama”, hence why I’m not entirely ruling out the idea that Chip is Mrs. Potts’s grandson.farerb wrote: He calls her mom several times.

Even though it’s confirmed Mrs. Potts is Chip’s mother in the animated movie, I still like to believe she’s his grandmother mainly due to how old she looks.
Anyways, it’s best we get back on topic.

I always thought she was his grandmother, too, actually. I assume that she, like Mrs. Jumbo, are called "Mrs." because it sounds nicer than Ms. Potts or Ms. Jumbo even though their husbands are nowhere to be found / probably dead.

I had no idea that when a woman is becomes a widow, her title of Mrs. changes to Ms. That seems regressive and unnecessary.

Confirmation there are going to be four new songs.
Source: https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/oscar ... cars-2020/Miranda offered an update on the remake while at the Oscars on Sunday, when he told red carpet host Billy Porter that he had written four new songs for the movie. "I wrote four new songs with Menken," he confirmed. "They are in rehearsals right now. They'll be shooting starting in April, all summer."

If Disney was ever really looking at RuPaul for Sebastian, I would not have been surprised if they looked at Billy Porter, too. Was that ever rumored or reported?

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
I'm just anxious over how the characters are going to look.
I'm afraid they're just gonna digitally make Ursula's actress purple.
https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1q76pkDgfpY/ ... 2Bface.jpg
they have a chance to go all out and make something unique but familiar...
also will sebastian have beady black eyes on stalks? are flounder and scuttle going to be wall-eyed like the actual animals?
there's so many questions i have.

Melissa McCarthy talks rehearsals for live action Little Mermaid.
There was never an official announcement from Disney, right?

Here's the video in question.UmbrellaFish wrote:Melissa McCarthy talks rehearsals for live action Little Mermaid.
No, but it's safe to assume that whoever was reported as being in talks in the trades is a done deal by now. So, Javier Bardem is Triton, Melissa Ann McCarthy is Ursula, Jacob Tremblay is Flounder, Awkwafina is Scuttle, Jonah Hauer-King is Eric.UmbrellaFish wrote:There was never an official announcement from Disney, right?

I didn't expect they would make so many new songs. I hope they all make it to the final film.Sotiris wrote:Confirmation there are going to be four new songs.

There'll be one new song for Ariel, one for Eric, one for Scuttle, and (most likely) one for Triton. I could live without a Scuttle song but the other three I want. I hope they change their minds and instead of a Scuttle song, they give us an Ariel/Eric duet.D82 wrote:I didn't expect they would make so many new songs. I hope they all make it to the final film.

Nope. But "Be Prepared" sucked, too, and it's not even as great or nuanced a song as PUS, so... I pretty much expected it.farerb wrote:Well, no hope for Poor Unfortunate Soul to sound good now.
I hope they really aren't going to waste screentime on songs for Scuttle and Triton.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Thanks, Sotiris. Now I remember having read it. By the way, since Awkwafina started her career as a rapper, do you think Scuttle's song will feature that style of music? I've just listened to some of her songs and wow, now I understand why Disney cast her.
