Dylan Minnette from 13 Reasons Why apparently just had a test screening for Eric. I don't know about his singing, but he would be really lovely acting-wise.

I like him as an actor although he's not really someone I would consider for Eric. But Halle Bailey isn't the traditional choice either so it'll work. Anyone is better than Harry Styles at this point. I wonder how close we got to Zendaya and Harry Styles in the lead roles.

Ha, he's actually from my hometown.
Man has a dream
And that's the start
He follows his dream
With mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true
For you and me!

I forgot to say thank you! I always love artwork like this for all the princesses, and that was the first time something like that actually featured in a Disney film instead of just fanworks online. I wish I could make .GIFs. I’d probably put them together into an avatar, if I could.

Anyway, the more I've thought about it (since it looks likely at this point), I could probably get on board with Minnette, even if I would prefer they went with someone else.

Do we expect to see Melissa McCarthy announced on stage today at the Disney Studios presentation? Do we think there may be some surprises related to the remake at tomorrow’s 30th anniversary celebration?

There wasn't any mention of any of the live action stuff ... I wonder if they truly don't have anyone and Melissa was just playing with everyone ?

They only talked about the films they're releasing until the first half of 2021. 'The Little Mermaid' starts filming in early 2020. It won't be ready before late 2021 or maybe even early 2022.

Disney most really like working with Awkwafina !

I wonder if Awkwafinas performance as the dragon Sisu will be similar to Robin Williams as the Genie ? Full of jokes and improvised lines.

Out of all of the actors we heard were up for the role of Eric so far (Harry Styles, Asher Angel, Dylan Minnette, Christian Navarro), Navarro is my preferred choice. He's attractive, he can sing (or so he claims at least), he doesn't look too young or preppy, and is an actor of color. For me, the latter is a plus as it avoids the unfortunate societal implications of having a Black woman chase after a white man and give up her voice, her home, and her family for him. It also disrupts Disney's alarming pattern of partnering women of color with white men in many of their films.

Are they allowed to say that Disney have called or they've auditioned ? Figured it was always a 'secret' process so to speak.

Or did Disney want him to mention something about it, to prove they watch and listen to social media etc ?

I’m really surprised that the only A-Lister they’ve looked at for Eric is Harry Styles.

Interesting that two 13 Reasons Why stars are up for the part. From all the actors being considered so far, it's clear that Disney isn't like for some household name but instead leaning towards anyone who the tween/teen demographics would be highly familiar with.

Harry Styles explains why he passed on the role of Eric.
Following the news that he missed out on Presley, his name was floated for the role of Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. However, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Styles on the big screen as that idea, too, has sunk. He won’t be The King or the Prince. “It was discussed,” he acknowledges before swiftly changing the subject. “I want to put music out and focus on that for a while. But everyone involved in it was amazing, so I think it’s going to be great. I’ll enjoy watching it, I’m sure.”

A shame. I think he would've been a decent Eric, better than the choices being floated now.

I've only seen 3 or 4 episodes of 13 Reasons Why a long time back. Of those two actors, I'm leaning towards Minnette, only because I can't remember anything about the other guy at all.

You're right, he's 28. Actually a lot of the cast of 13 Reasons Why are in their late 20s or even early 30s.
