Oh, wow, my favorite film has made it! I'm ecstatic!!!!! A dream come true! And yes, maybe Disney will give it what it deserves now.
I hope all the big films of Disney make it in. The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast (or are they already in?).
I hope every Disney cover henceforth has a proper background ala Peter Pan. The only time white is ok is like the Snow White 80th anniversary cover. Even The Lion King is not proper with that blue sky but white around the edges. And yes that big tail Little Mermaid cover is awful.
My Thinking, Walt Disney made 13 films that are generally looked upon today as the great American Movie classics (until he died and everything started to go downhill).
7 of them are in the Library of Congress Right Now:
Snow White
Pinocchio
Fantasia
Dumbo
Bambi
Cinderella
Mary Poppins
The other 6 are:
Alice in Wonderland
Peter Pan
Lady and the Tramp
Sleeping Beauty
101 Dalmatians
The Jungle Book
These are chosen for historical significance, be they ground breaking (Snow White, Bambi) or Critical Deities (Dumbo, Mary Poppins), or just sheer iconic (Cinderella).
With Disney's influence on pop culture, it's no surprise that even Cinderella, a film that has a bit of a rep of being "B-list" compared to the earlier films (which I disagree btw), made it in.
The Little Mermaid and Aladdin should definitely get in there soon too. I can't think of any other renaissance films to make it in there (lets be real here... Mulan is only popular with a generation but it doesn't have the monumental cult following of something like Alice in Wonderland, The Iron Giant, etc).
I'd like to think many of the revival films would make it in there too but it hasn't even been 10 years yet, (there's a reason they do this).
Cinderella is one of the greatest films from my favorite decades of movies and even today, Disney Animation's greatest decade (IMO). It deserves it.
Also, while Disney does recognize this as a huge honor, I don't think they're going to treat the film any differently. By that Logic Fantasia would have been on Diamond/Platinum and Dumbo would be on Signature.
