I wonder when we'll see a press release for this new edition of The Lion King. Just to get an idea on the new bonus features.

I expect the "Women in Animation" documentary to be listed, just as it was on early press for Beauty and the Beast and at the Destination D announcement for Pinocchio... and then not show up.

Other than that, I certainly wouldn't mind if they include 1955's The African Lion. They could bill it as "Walt Disney's first attempt at chronicling the story of a Lion King!" in order to legitimize The Lion King as being part of the "Walt Disney Signature Collection" banner title beyond "It's Bambi in Africa." Additional contenders for inclusion beyond new, slickly-edited pieces (a musical retrospective with Elton John and Raven?) would be 1995's "Stand By Me" animated short or the laughably-condescending "Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable" from Epcot.

Well the Walt Disney Signature Collection is also about films inspired by Walt. Any Disney movie made is supposed to be inspired by Walt's films but they could easily say The Lion King is one. I like the Epcot Lion King short by the way...

I do, too!

I doubt they'd include the Making Of tv special, but I'd think that those specials would be no-brainers to include.

In that case, Disney should release a Chicken Little: Walt Disney Signature Collection, especially as Walt actually did make a "Chicken Little" short in 1943. I can't wait for the fan outrage over that.

People liking the short doesn't make it any less condescending.

That parenthetical "Only on Blu-Ray" makes me wonder if Disney didn't want to do any digital exclusives for this title, similar to how Pinocchio has no digital DMA exclusive the way the other Signature Collection titles did. Unless they're gonna get away with the digital exclusive being buried within the catch-all "And More!"

Also, can you imagine if they included a collectible film frame with Beauty and the Beast? It would open up new debates on the colors, one of which I'm sure would be "Disney made a brand new film print with the compromised colors and included them on the Blu-Ray to deceive the public into believing that's what they were all along!". Thank goodness we're beyond that nonsense now.

I think Mufassa needs to be in the clouds on the right hand side of the cover. At least they are doing horzontal totles now, thank God!

Well it is also assumed this series is only for the more successful (monetarily and critcially) films.

I don't remember it being condescending but I didn't see it on the last trip to Disney so I can't say whether it is or not. I'll take your word for it.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but has it been mentioned anywhere yet if this release fixes the deleted animation of mufasa dissolving in the clouds?

Every Signature release so far has used the same encode as the previous disc. If Disney couldn't be bothered to fix Beauty and the Beast's "Something There" error shot or Pinocchio's "Give A Little Whistle" audio gaffe, I don't think they'll make an effort for The Lion King. Especially as they didn't even institute a disc replacement program for The Lion King although they did for The Little Mermaid's errors a couple years later.

About Mary Poppins you say "file is on disc". How do I access that?

The easiest way to watch "A Musical Journey" would simply be inserting Disc 2 from either the 40th Anniversary Edition or 45th Anniversary Edition DVD releases. If you want to access it on the Blu-Ray itself, you'll need to put it in a BD-ROM, manually explore through the files, and find the file that way. I've never had to worry about that (since I still have the older DVDs), but it's a burden for those who only have one version of the film.

I'm still shocked years later that TLM actually got replacement discs. If they'd do it for TLM, I wonder why they wouldn't make the same decision for B&tB or especially TLK? There's no doubt both films have more fans than TLM and the Ghost Mufasa scene is as critical to that movie as PoYW is to TLM.

Listening to most often lately:
Ariana Grande ~ "we can't be friends (wait for your love)"
Ariana Grande ~ "imperfect for you"
Kacey Musgraves ~ "The Architect"
