I genuinely wonder if Zootopia's success had anything to do with Disney's decided to release this sequel earlier, so they can start working on Zootopia 2? Well, either way, Rich Moore is having a great year.

WiR still remains a favorite of mine, but its potential was severely limited by the restriction to stay in Sugar Rush for most of the movie. The world they built truly deserves more exploration.

I wonder what Wreck It Ralph 2's Box Office gross will look like compared to this sequel in 2018.

Hopefully not as embarrassing. But it should beat this, then again.....

Loved everything about Wreck-It Ralph so I'm excited by this news.

Well, you guys asked for it! I'm sure Disney is on the phone with her right now for a follow-up song for the sequel.

This has probably been said to death already but ... was that song chosen to be purposefully jarring with the context of the movie? I mean, little kids wouldn't get the real meaning, but the song is still somewhat innuendous. (Why doesn't innuendo have an adjective?)

Still preferable to seeing little girls twerking, I suppose. Looking at you, PowerPuff Girls reboot. :P

Well, the heartwrenching scene with Ralph literally crushing Vanellope's dreams happened 10 minutes after that training montage so...Vanellope shut up, but she didn't drive? :P

Also, I think that "suggestive" works as an adjective for "innuendo". That song is indeed very suggestive. It was also very dated in 2012, so I wonder what 5-year old pop songs we'll hear in the sequel?

One thing positive I will say about WiR 2's announcement is that it literally kills the "Disney only cares about Frozen" hate club.

I don’t think it says anything of the kind. They’re just making coins wherever they can with brand extension; even movies Disney didn't care about like The Fox and the Hound and The Hunchback of Notre Dame were given DTV sequels. It’s still undeniable they care about Frozen (and now Zootopia) more than the others. Not really surprising considering it sold albums and merchandise in buckets unlike any of those films, and will rake in money with a Broadway show where the others wouldn’t even have a shot to compete in that area.

Money is always king with Disney, and Frozen brought in the most of it from a wide range of areas. :D

A few more details about the sequel:
Without giving anything away, what can people expect from the sequel?

Rich Moore: The relationship between Vanellope and Ralph, we’re going to see that again, and the comedy that comes with the two of them. We’re going to see their friendship tested by getting to the Internet. So everything you loved about the first one and a whole lot more.

Where are you in the production process? How long have you been recording voices, how long have you actually been working on this?

MOORE: We’ve been working on it for about two years now. I had started on it pretty much right after the first one, to tell you the truth. Maybe it took about a year just to kind of collect my thoughts on it, but working in earnest on it, I would say it’d be two to two and a half years. And before a little film called Zootopia came into my life, we were working on the screenplay. And we had actually written a first draft of the script. And that was with myself and with Phil Johnston who’s our writer from the original Wreck-It Ralph and co-writer on Zootopia. Phil is actually coming on board as my co-director on this one because so much of the first movie was from his voice, I felt like it’s a good match for the two of us to be directing the second one together. So we had a script, a first draft of a screenplay right before I jumped onto Zootopia in the fall of 2014, and after Zootopia was done we did a table read like last December. And we’ve been working on the story process right now. We’re boarding the movie. We’ve been doing that since around the time that Zootopia was released. So we’re right in the thick of storyboarding the film right now.

Wow. Shouldn't they start to animate in the beginning of next year? And doesn't the animation take like 2-3 years to complete? I'm shocked this is going faster than Gigantic

Why would it take 3 years to do CG in a live action film? That 3 year estimate is more for CG only films.

James Corden is in the cast!
You’re also doing another Wreck-It Ralph film.

LYNCH: Yeah, it’s going to happen. And I believe James Corden has a part in it. It’s going to be fun!

Such a Disney legend at this point. Excited to find out what her character will be.
