Good to know S3 can be submitted next year!

I'm glad to know they really liked Varian. He was my favorite character on the show, too, even surpassing the characters from the movie, actually. I guess I had the cynical thought it may have been because he was a male character since I had been thinking about the fact that the Hercules show completely removed Meg and the Muses (critical parts of the film) for the series (aimed primarily at boys)... Which made me think about the hypothetical Varian spinoff, and I thought perhaps they thought that Disney would be less likely to greenlight a Cass show because Tangled: The Series had poor ratings and Disney tends to blame low performance of supposedly "female-oriented" things on them being primarily aimed at female viewers in the first place (sort of like what they did with fairy tales and princesses after TP&TF's supposed underperformance in 2009; and a similar thing happened in regards to TLM when it was about to be released, that they didn't expect it to do very much because it was a "girl's film," before it really took off).

Here's my ranking:

01. Waiting in the Wings (from Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure)
One of the best songs in the show. Great melody, meaningful lyrics, and a Broadway-worthy performance by Eden Espinosa.

02. As You Move Forward (from The Lion Guard)
It's decent. Not particularly memorable, but not bad either.

03. Never Leave (from Elena of Avalor)
It has a nice beat and a Latin-flavored orchestration, but all of the songs from this show do. I'm perplexed as to why this one specifically was chosen over much better ones in the series. There's a new song in every episode, so there's certainly no shortage of them.

04. Gonna Go Good (from Big Hero 6: The Series)
Another odd choice from the voting committee. The song's loud and obnoxious, but at least the singer is competent. You can tell she has a music background.

05. The Vamp Opera (from Vampirina)
This really isn't a song. Just dialogue with rhyming. It's annoying, overlong, with no structure. Listening to the entire thing was exhausting. I understand why it was nominated though. The voters must have liked the gimmick of having an entire episode sung-through. That's not common in kids TV.

My ranking would be very similar. I'll only swap "Never Leave" and "As You Move Forward"'s places, though I think "As You Move Forward" is probably better objectively speaking.

I had a stray thought the other day about how they tried to get a Varian spin-off. While I wish it had happened since I loved Varian and would've liked to see more of the character, it's a shame they didn't think of doing a spin-off with Cassandra. Isn't the storyboards involving her what got this series off the ground itself? And her future is left very vague at the end. It would've made more sense to shop a spin-off with her, really... But perhaps they thought a boy's show would be more likely to be picked up.

I agree, a spin-off with Cassandra would be more interesting for me too.

Yes, not just the music, but the writers of the show deserve this so much, too. They took a show I had very little initial interest in and did something unimaginably great with it. :) I hope Disney rewards them with more work, too. I'd love if they had some involvement at WDAS, although I imagine making a TV series and a film are very different.

I agree, the writing of the series was great and it's one of the important categories. It's so great it got recognition as well as the music. I hope too the writers get more work as a reward.

It may have taken some time but the music of this show has finally been recognized! Now we wait for the second and third Emmy win in the category for "Crossing the Line" and "Nothing Left to Lose". :P If I'm not mistaken, these two songs will be eligible in seperate award seasons so technically it could happen. :D

Anyway, congrats to all the winners!

I’d love “Nothing Left to Lose” to win, but I know most here preferred “Crossing the Line,” which means it probably has the better chances.

The showrunner said he had envisioned "Waiting in the Wings" six years ago!

Thank you SO much Glenn for all of your & Alan's hard work on the show. If ANY of the songs deserved this award, it was this one. I envisioned this song almost 6 years ago, and the way you executed it was absolute perfection. Eden Espinosa, what a voice! Congrats to you all.

I also prefer "Nothing Left to Lose", but I wish both songs would win. I don't know if it's very likely, though. Maybe they'll feel they've already given the show enough recognition. But if they're the best songs in their categories they deserve to win, so we'll see.

It seems Disney had a great night! By the way, I forgot to say that I'm happy for Glenn Slater too. And for Claire Keane (Glen Keane's daughter), who was also one of the award recipients for the illustrations she did for the intro.

Oh, that's wonderful for Claire Keane! Her artwork has been gorgeous. And I'm glad for the writers that Menken was able to bring their vision to life successfully.
