So far it's starting to look a little better than anticipated. But personally, I only have it in me to see one movie based on a series of British children's books about a talking bear this year.

A little off topic, but Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928) were published about the same time in America as in England. While it will take some time before Milne enters public domain in Europe, the two books will enter public domain in America three and five years from now. That should meant that Hollywood studios other than Disney should be allowed to make their own versions of the novels, both as animation and live action. If they do, it will be interesting to see an alternative take on the characters.

^Interesting. I wonder if Disney decided to make this live-action adaptation with that in mind, to be the first in doing so before other Hollywood studios could do their own CGI versions of Pooh and his friends. By the way, wasn't there a Russian adaptation of Winnie the Pooh from the 70s? I've never seen it, but how did they get the rights to the book?

It is possible they want to explore different Winnie the Pooh concepts not done before while they still have the exclusive rights. The clock is ticking.

I checked the Russian versions, which I had not heard of before, and it looks like Disney allowed them to make the movies (three shorts of featurettes):

Quote:
The Russian films were made after the Walt Disney studio – which had purchased the rights to Pooh from the estate of author AA Milne, who wrote the original Pooh stories – granted the Soviets permission for an adaptation in a rare gesture of Cold War detente.

Interesting story. Thanks for the info!

It's just weird that there have been no promotion or lead up to this movie. I get that they're waiting until INCREDIBLES 2 in a couple of weeks to release the new trailer. But, they're taking their sweet time promoting this. As if they want another Pooh movie to fail.

I hope that's not the case. Well, they still have two entire months to promote it, and as you say, they're probably waiting until Incredibles 2 is released to do so. They have so many movies to promote that they have to be careful not to upstage any of their releases.

Tigger looks worse now that we have a better look at him. Though, in my opinion, the characters don't look bad in general. I'm excited for tomorrow's trailer. And, if the poster is any indication, we'll probably get to see Tigger and the rest in motion.

Unpopular opinion: I don't really like the designs based on the real stuffed animals. I would've much preferred they used the classic Disney designs. I find them more charming and more conducive to a believable performance.

I would definitely have preferred that too.

By the way, you can see the characters better in this hi-res version of the poster: https://i.imgur.com/ZoyvVcJ.jpg
