Re: New Disney Short "Feast"
I dont know what to think yet from 2 stills...I need to see it in motion. At least it does have shading of some sort...
Re: New Disney Short "Feast"
Looks very similar to the test we were talking about before, a bit more refined and not quite as textured though. But definitely still looks like a visdev painting, which I like. Of course we'll have to see it in motion, but the stills honestly looks more like hand drawn animation than CG.

Those stills are very enticing, I cannot wait to see the finished product ASAP.

Looks great! Honestly, I might be looking forward to this short moreso than BH6, and I say that as someone who is looking forward to that.
Really hope we will see a feature utilize this technology in the near future.

I like that look as well. I have pictured how it will look like in my head and I know I've seen a similar style before but I can't remember where.

Re: New Disney Short "Feast"
And for me that's a good thing. Of course I'd always argue that there should be no reason to not be doing real hand-drawn animation in the first place, but I'm still willing to accept shorts like this and Paperman as an alternative, cause the major difference with them is that they're trying to replicate the pleasing aesthetics of 2D animation to the point where you can no longer feel it's absence and you can actually call something "2D" again.SWillie! wrote:Looks very similar to the test we were talking about before, a bit more refined and not quite as textured though. Only problem is, I refuse to have to go see Big Hero 6 for this short, so I'll just have to do what I did with Paperman and wait until I can watch the short separately, cause based on the stills this looks like it may be another short that I'd be happy to watch.

2Disney, I hate to be rude, but this whole bias against Disney CGI really needs to end. That's basically like refusing to eat what's placed in front of you.

Re: New Disney Short "Feast"
From the look of things, there seem to be two different kinds of Disney CGI right now: the kind that only exists to replace 2D animation, and the kind that actually tries to be 2D animation. I'd rather support the latter.DisneyJedi wrote:2Disney, I hate to be rude, but this whole bias against Disney CGI really needs to end. I thought so too, but I guess I only started posting on here again cause I wanted to share my feelings on Robin Williams' death since I really sympathized with other people about it.TsWade2 wrote:I thought you left!2Disney4Ever wrote: From the look of things, there seem to be two different kinds of Disney CGI right now: the kind that only exists to replace 2D animation, and the kind that actually tries to be 2D animation. Re: New Disney Short "Feast"
This should clear things up regarding the medium used for "Feast".

This is so exciting! Does this style of animation have a name yet?

Well, it's a painterly type of NPR (non-photorealistic rendering). I don't think it has a specific name. If it were up to me I'd call it Vis-Dev NPR because it resembles a rough visual development painting.UmbrellaFish wrote:Does this style of animation have a name yet?

I thought it was called meander, aka the same style used for Paperman?Sotiris wrote:Well, it's a painterly type of NPR (non-photorealistic rendering). I don't think it has a specific name. Re: New Disney Short "Feast"
Meander is the name of the software, not necessarily the style. But even then, they didn't use meander for this. Seems to work similar to it though.
