All of you naysayers or people who want this to be the "perfect fairytale" are really in for a shocker.

This is Hollywood we are talking about. This is also television, and a network looking to climb from the cellar to the top spot currently held by CBS!!!

The show is called "Once Upon A Time" and even though, and this is just my thoughts, they are using certain characters from Aesop and other fairytale writers., there is nothing that says they have to follow a scripted story based on those stories.

Just sit back and let the show entertain you. Quit reading between the lines or trying to add your own twists and turns to the stories. If you were that intelligent you would be the writers for this show instead of those who were responsible for "Lost" and other shows.

This is probably the best Sunday night "intro" show for Prime Time on the market today, and the fact that it is one of the first shows to be given the "green light" for a whole 22-episode season, should be enough to satisfy most of us viewers. We can spend the off-season talking about what they did wrong or right after the season is over.

^Aw, come on, it's more fun to discuss while it's happening. I thought you were more into intelligent viewing. Trying to figure out what's going on or griping about the way something happened is more active viewing than sitting back and being entertained. That's passive viewing. True entertainment should engage you, and even though Once Upon a Time isn't perfect, it certainly does engage the viewer. For my family, Once Upon a Time is our official girls' night. We all watch it together and then discuss our theories throughout the week. It's so much more fun that way, and it tides us over until the next episode.

As for this week's episode, I didn't love it, but it wasn't bad. I think the casting for Cinderella and Prince Thomas could've been better though. Prince Thomas looked so young, even compared to Ella. I LOVED last week's episode, though. Brilliant!

What do you guys think of Sheriff Graham? Good or bad or somewhere in between? Is he supposed to be the Huntsman?

I like the sheriff. I think he's supposed to be the huntsman, but it hasn't been confirmed yet to the best of my knowledge.

Since names are similar to their stories.. maybe Graham is the Ginger Bread man?? At first i thought he might be the wolf to Little Red Ridding Hood.

I just looked up what Graham means..

Believed to be derived from an English place name which meant either "gravelly homestead" or "grey home"

But dvdjunkie, you are the one who was judging the show badly after just watching one episode. And you of all people should not be insulting people's intelligence with your remarks.

All I was doing was suggesting things, and if you don't agree, then fine. But it still stands that logically, it doesn't make sense for the fairy tales to be changed so much, because then they aren't the real, actual fairy tales, and they're almost unrecognizable.

And tsom, you weren't sad/mad when the fairy godmother died?

Yeah, I'm also confused by dvdjunkie's post. At first, he hated this show after one episode and was all about Grimm (which I caught up with today. It's good but not great. OUAT is more my thing, but I'll keep watching both).

And Duster, I really wasn't mad/sad as much. I was just a little taken aback when it happened. I didn't expect her to just die. I was more mad at Ella for making such a dumb deal in the first place! I get she was desperate to get out of her wretched life, but at least read the contract first! I do wish the godmother gave her what she needed and Rumple just comes in later, but this is OUAT's version of the story and I love new tellings of Cinderella as you know. I just wish Ella in this version wasn't as stupid or a pregnant teenager. Oh well.

Now that I think about it, Ella or even Cinderella for that matter could have just went to the ball without magic! What a waste of time! Like Prince Thomas said "Magic brought us together, but it didn't create this love". Therefore, if Cinderella just bathe, wore a nice dress, and found some way to get to the ball, she could have won the heart of the prince anyway!

I loved when she acknowledged that the fireworks were for her. That has got to be a special feeling! That's like me seeing Fourth of July fireworks from afar all my life, then one day there are special fireworks celebrating something great that I did. Must be nice...

What is Grimm like? I'm kinda out of the loop on TV. I have been without one for a long time, but I'm visiting my mother now and can finally see it.

However, I have been keeping up with Once Upon a Time, Walking Dead, and American Horror Story online, and I'm loving all three.

Well, they could have just had the fairy godmother say what she said and, you know...not kill her, then she either very quickly does the coach, horses, and dress, or she does the dress first and it cuts right to Cinderella dancing with the prince a few minutes till midnight and then running away, Rumplestiltskin catches her, she makes the deal with him very quickly because she's in a hurry and very emotional, and he makes the slipper fall and casts a spell so the prince gets the idea to use it and then it cuts to Storybrook and the rest of the episode.

Agreed and agreed! But I still was sad the fairy godmother was killed, now I hate Rumplestiltskin!

And Cinderella getting to the ball because of magical help is my favorite thing about the story...And by the time she found a dress no one would laugh at her in and walked to the ball...it may have been too late, you know? The ball may have been over, if she could even feasibly get there on foot.

The fireworks thing was pretty cool and special feeling, though.

I suppose it has been discussed already, but if not, what did you all think of Maleficent? I do love "Once Upon a Time", but I agree that it kinda sucks they made Cinderella a dumb, pregnant teen, and as for Maleficent, if you're gonna use the Disney name, ya know, make her REALLY Maleficent. The nod to the original with her horned hat thing she was wearing sorta made me think of a Halloween costume. She seemed like a ditzy blonde to me, while the animated Maleficent is one of the most intimidating villains.

As for Cinderella though, I can kinda see how it makes sense. I mean, in my family, we have always wondered why she put up with the treatment she got (okay, I guess it's believable when you consider the times and limits for women, but still), and besides that, it's interesting and maybe a little amusing to see how things are now compared to "then" (yeah, I know it's as much in a parallel dimension as it is in the past, but thinking on it as Medieval Times) in regards to age and viewpoints, and life experiences. Back then, pretty normal for a teen girl to get married and start having kids. Today, it's this big, shameful and/or sad thing.

I liked Maleficent in OUAT. I feel like her reign of terror was sort of a been there, done that thing. Sleeping Beauty had won and she had moved on and retired in the forbidden fortress. I liked it.

As for why Cinderella didn't leave, who knows? I like the different reasons given by various versions. In Disney, she was better off in the chateau given that women back then had limited choices. In R&H (1957 and 1997), she promised her father before he died that she wouldn't leave her stepfamily. In Ever After, she stayed by choice and didn't want her father's manor to turn to ruins. In Slipper and the Rose, it was either stay in the manor or go to the orphanage. In Ella Enchanted, she was cursed.

I just wish Cinderella/Ashley in OUAT had a better story than being a teen mom. That's just me though.

That actually sounds better as a plot point. I, too, think it would have been better to have her make a deal with Rumpelstiltskin after the ball.

That's a good idea. I agree with that as well. It makes more sense because it doesn't alter the story as much.

Great episode last night!!! The story behind 'Jiminy Cricket' was handled very well, and things are starting to get really good with the storyline.

I don't want to miss an episode this season!!!

First look at Emilie de Ravin as Belle!

Image

I think she looks good :D

Emilie will be appearing in the episode airing on Valentine’s Day (February 14 2012).

Showrunner Adam Horowitz also confirmed that Belle’s father Maurice, Gaston and the Beast will be appearing in that episode. Apparently, the Beast is someone we already know! :?

Belle? Maurice? Gaston? Beast? This is starting to be like watching the later seasons of Smallville! Ha, in a good way, don't get me wrong.

All caught up with Sunday's epi! I LOVED that Jiminey Cricket & Geppetto were BFFs.

So, Beauty and the Beast will be on V-Day? Is OUAT moving to a new time?
