Re: Disney's live-action Jungle Book
To be honest, I found this trailer to be a bit superior to it's predecessors. But I still have my doubts about this film, that's is going to be a new, worthy adaptation of The Jungle Book.

I think it all looks pretty good. But Im a complete sucker for this type of "spooky forest full of magical beasts that can kill you" shtick.

Holy crap, there is literally so much of Christopher Walken in King Louie's facial structure, it's scary. It definitely shows in the poster.D82 wrote:First clip:

Also, in this version Shere Khan has scars on his face. I suppose humans did that to him and that's why he hates them so much.

I noticed that too. He's the actor who resembles his character the most. And they made him taller than in the animated film:DisneyJedi wrote:Holy crap, there is literally so much of Christopher Walken in King Louie's facial structure, it's scary. It definitely shows in the poster.

Re: Disney's live-action Jungle Book
I see a bit of older Bill Murry in Baloo as well.
did you guy's know that there's another Jungle Book movie being made? I think this one features Andy Serkis and uses mo-cap for the animals or something.

Re: Disney's live-action Jungle Book
Yes, it's called Jungle Book: Origins, it's from Warner Bros. and it's going to be released on October 2017. Yes, it uses motion capture performances for the animals and the rest will be live action. Andy Serkis plays Baloo and is also the director. Like the upcoming live action Disney film, it has a voice cast full of stars. Christian Bale is Bagheera, Benedict Cumberbatch is Shere Khan and Cate Blanchett is Kaa, among others. It's said to be darker and more faithful to the book. It will be interesting to see the differences between the two films, which is better reviewed and how both of them perform at the box office.unprincess wrote:did you guy's know that there's another Jungle Book movie being made? I really haven't been looking forward to this at all but the trailer did look very pretty on the big screen. I still really like the sound of the score too, especially the part where "Bare Necessities" is incorporated. I was going to wait but maybe I'll actually check it out in theaters. I think it could be another surprise hit. They're certainly promoting the hell out of it

I'm not a big TJB fan in general, but after seeing a commercial for this, I want to see it eventually. I'm not sure if it'll be great or not. I wish Cate Blanchett was in this version.

Cate Blanchett is voicing Kaa in the WB Jungle Book film right? I'd prefer her over Scarlet Johansson as well.Disney's Divinity wrote:I'm not a big TJB fan in general, but after seeing a commercial for this, I want to see it eventually. Re: Disney's live-action Jungle Book
Some positive reviews from Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and TheWrap:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review ... iew-880131
http://www.thewrap.com/the-jungle-book-review-disney
Lots of praise for the captivating visuals and performances, which do look great. It sounds like it could be similar to the quality of Cinderella, which also had good performances, visuals, and heart, while maybe being a little paint by numbers without really adding anything new or intriguing to the story. Maleficent, on the other hand, did expand on the story a lot and turned out to be a complete disaster and abomination
Either way, if this is well-received it would certainly give me more faith in Disney churning out a never-ending supply of unnecessary live action remakes, but I'd like to see them find the right balance of paying homage to their animated films and adding new elements to the stories and characters, without veering into Maleficent territory.

A featurette about the voice cast:

By the way, Jungle Book: Origins, the Warner Bros upcoming adaptation of the book, has been pushed back an entire year, from October 2017 to October 2018. Could that be because they want to put more distance between their movie and the Disney version?

Re: Disney's live-action Jungle Book
I just realized, Idris Elba has done voice work for Zootopia, Finding Dory, and The Jungle Book, all coming from Disney within a span of 4 months. Not that I'm complaining. He does have a great voice.
Anyway, I'm surprised that the reviews are pretty positive.
The trailers and marketing are selling it pretty well. It's not a must-see for me as of now, but I might catch it in the discount theaters a couple months from now. The voicework sounds good, though I'm not feeling Kaa/Scarlet Johansson at all.

I don't want to watch the trailers or read any promotional materials related to this one. I really want to be surprised upon my first viewing.

I don't have much interest in TJB (the original material or the Disney movie), but the previews for this look interesting. I'll probably see this now, where I really didn't care before.

Re: Disney's live-action Jungle Book
Wow, the positive reviews for this keep coming. Here are some quotes taken from Rotten Tomatoes (still 100% with 40 reviews):
Thank goodness it doesn't seem to be another Maleficent/Alice in Wonderland, although the sequel to the latter is right around the corner to torture us some more• It's the first talking-animal movie I've seen where CGI seamlessly bridges the uncanny gap between fantasy and reality. It's also one of the few 3-D movies that actually benefits from being in 3-D.
• The Jungle Book is the kind of awe-inspiring experience that turns children into cinephiles, who remember the first time a movie made them feel something more than fleeting entertainment.
• Thanks to director Jon Favreau's visionary guidance and some of the most impressive blends of live-action and CGI we've yet seen, The Jungle Book is a beautifully rendered, visually arresting take on Rudyard Kipling's oft-filmed tales.
• Disney's The Jungle Book, is Favreau's masterpiece.
• Doesn't try to be anything more than a well-known story retold simply, but we're reminded even a painfully familiar tale can, when done right, still bring the magic.
• Disney's 'The Jungle Book' is an incredible cinematic experience that will dazzle children and adults.
• The Jungle Book manages to take an old story, presented in a traditional, earnest way, and still make it feel fresh and exciting.
• If only all blockbusters could be this exciting, engrossing, and beautiful.
• Elba's villainous and calculated turn stands up there proudly with the Jeremy Irons' ("The Lion King") and Pat Carroll's ("The Little Mermaid") as one of the best ever witnessed for a Disney villain.
• Favreau has achieved the near impossible, managing to stay true to both Kipling's tales and Disney's revered 1967 animation, while offering something entirely new.
• A fresh, entertaining and unmistakably heart-warming film which is set to become a classic in its own right.
• The Jungle Book' is a remarkable achievement and yet more reason to be optimistic about Disney's "turn an animated classic into a live-action feature" sub-genre.
