Runaway Brain

Post by Stitch »

Back in 1997 when I went to go see Hercules in the theatre, to my surprise before the actual movie started, I saw what I think is the best animated mickey short ever! The only sad part is, that was the first and last time I have seen it. The animated short I am referring to is Runaway Brain, the Frankenstein story with mickey as the monster, but instead of being Dr. Frankenstein the doctors name was Dr. Frankenollie (Frank and Ollie). ........ um....... yeah..... ok, anyways.

Please!!! If anyone knows where I can either buy or download this classic short let me know!!! (download would be preferred).

Thank you in advance to all who can help.

Wait until the holidays. All signs point to it being included on Mickey Mouse In Living Color Vol II!

I think more than likely it will be found on Vol III, if there is going to be one, although I'm not complaining, if they put all the rest of mickey's cartoons on a vol II. :P

There aren't many left. I think we can expect it on volume II.

We're expecting a hell of a lot from Volume II aren't we?

"What about the..."
Volume 2.
"But you didn't know what I was going to..."
Volume 2.
"Even the unseen..."
Volume 2.
"You know where you can cram it right?"
Volume 2.
"I hate you"
You 2.

Vol 1 contains 27 shorts (including the easter egg)

Vol 2 will contain 21 shorts, of which 2 are roughly triple length (Mickey's Christmas Carol and The Prince and the Pauper).

Considering the Goofy set contained 48 shorts, I see no reason why fitting the remaining Mickey's in to a single set would cause a problem. It certainly isn't enough to justify a third volume of colour cartoons.

Strange to read Disney had such issues with a darker version of Mickey. This short remains fantastic to this day. There should have been a series of these.

Would have liked to see the first idea with Donald trying to kill Mickey. Either way, I wish Katzenberg would have stayed long enough for the cartoon to be released the way it was it was originally intended.
Not surprised that it was Katzenberg who wanted a different version of Mickey. After all, he was the one who made Woody in Toy Story unlikable in the first version by pushing Pixar to make him "more edgy, more edgy" (a part of me is a little sad we never saw the version where Woody is a ventriloquist dummy and a complete creep).

I don't understand the logic; because Rescuers Down Under was not the success Disney hoped for, The Prince and the Pauper was considered too old fashioned? Which is why they decided to make Mickey more modern according to the article (also the only Mickey Mouse cartoon done with CAPS), like having him play video games.

Glad that I have both volumes of Mickey Mouse in Living Color (have also tried to track down Mickey Mouse in Black and White, but without success). Seems like Disney is holding back their DVD-releases these days after the released their own streaming service.

At least Runaway Brain is out there on the net. Which is more than you can say about Glago's Guest.

I really wish Disney would add this wonderful classic short on Disney+. Or release the HD Version on disc. :D

Not so much the case anymore for the latter…

Maybe for the short's 30th Anniversary in 2025.
