The animated X-Men cartoon is being released on DVD by Disney in volume sets. Hopefully, they don't abandon them when they are almost done like the Disney Afternoon toons. I had recently bought the UK box sets of seasons 1 & 2 thinking that Disney wouldn't get around to releasing the X-men anytime soon in volume sets. It will be interesting to see what episodes these have on them.

Quote:
Yes, you read that right, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced the release of two volumes of X-Men for release on April 28, 2009. Details are scarce right now, but we can tell you that each of the 2-disc sets will retail for $23.99; no word on the number of episodes contained on each set.

Disney mentions this is the second-most requested animated series yet to be released on DVD, and so lots of fans will be excited by this news. The release is timed to take advantage of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which should be out this summer. Apparently the rumors of Disney not owning the rights to the series were incorrect, or they worked out whatever problems were preventing them from releasing the series (after all, we've seen three X-Men movies come out in the last few years).

Here's a look at early artwork, which is subject to change. The artwork includes a banner across the top that mentions "Marvel Comic Book Collection." Could it be that we'll see more Marvel animated shows coming in 2009? That's pure speculation on our part, but we think it's a good sign.

You can preorder Volume 1 and Volume 2 from Amazon.com for just $16.99 each.

When I first saw this posted I thought..this would be similar to previous releases that Buena Vista released...such as The Venom Saga and those kind of compilations...

But apparently on the little Artwork this each volume is indeed a 2-disc set.....

At first I wasn't interested in these but since now knowing there may be a 2-disc set (which I doubt the 2nd disc is a digital copy of episodes on the first disk...) so I am willing to bet this is season one and season 2 or both combined are Season 1.....

Meanwhile another show comes to mind that does not relate to anything in feathers and/or fur...: Gargoyles.....

Wasn't Season One about 13 episodes long? In my mind that could fit on 2 discs, just have 6 on one and 7 on the other. Or does that not work :? Regardless I know I'll be picking these up since I only have the VHS versions with only one episode per tape :x such a waste of space on the shelves.

Honestly...I have no clue as to how many episodes were in a season...I didn't even know what that even meant in 1990....I was afterall only 3 years old....

I was happy and content watching a video tape of Ninja Turtles Case of the Killer Pizza's and Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night (not Disney Pinocchio but still I liked it...I still have yet to watch Pinocchio's Christmas which was on a DVD set I bought over the holidays.....I guess before Aladdin and The Lion King Came along...My favorite DAC were Pinocchio and The Great Mouse Detective....

And when I did watch episodes of Xmen I didn't get the plot or anything....all I knew it was the Xmen and I liked Wolverine....where now it would be nice to watch now that I have a clue as to who is who in the series.....and besides it came on tv when it first came out like at 5 am in the morning .....I got up at 5:25 only to find out the show was done for that day except for the credits.... :roll:

Well, as the topic and press release say:

"Disney releasing Volume Sets of X-Men"

So if it's being put out on DVD by Disney, then it can go in this forum because it's "Disney Discussion." :P

IMDB shows that Season 1 and Season 2 were 13 episodes each.

If those really are 2-disc sets, I could see each season fitting on one of them. The later seasons varied - 21, 17, 14. They *MIGHT* go for 4 more volumes at 13 episodes each.

Says the same thing on Wikipedia.

If that's the case, then these two "Volumes" are actually the first two seasons. I wish they would just call it that, though. :evil:

If I had money, I'd definitely be picking these up, I've been wanting these on DVD forever. I just hope they do the same thing with Spider-Man!

Yes, I know. I just said I wished they'd label them seasons and not volumes.

*sigh*

I did not mean what does x men have to do with Disney discussion, I like x men talk about them all you want & then some. I think the show could be good to have on dvd,
but what does x men have too do with Disney? :?
I thought it was owned by dc comics.
That is what I meant to say last time I posted, but I had to rush as I had about 1 minute of PC time left so there :P :lol:

Actually, X-Men is a Marvel property, not DC.

The rights to certain TV shows are very strange beasts indeed. One company may own the characters (like the X-Men,) while another company may be responsible for making the TV show and has the right to air it. That doesn't mean they necessarily have the home video distribution rights. They may have to go back to the company that owns the characters and cut another deal, which may not happen because someone gets too greedy on one side or the other.

Look at the old Batman TV show, for instance. DC/Warner Brothers owns the characters, however the show was made by Fox (I think.) Because of that, it hasn't ever been released.

Here are some of the companies behind the X-Men TV show:

Production Companies

* Genesis Entertainment
* Graz Entertainment
* Marvel Enterprises
* Marvel Productions
* Saban Entertainment
* TMS Entertainment

Distributors

* Fox Kids Network
* Fox Network (1992-1997) (USA) (TV) (original airing)
* PolyGram Video
* Saban Entertainment
* YTV

Evidently, Disney owns one or more of those companies, or has the home video rights. Maybe Fox or other studios didn't want to release this themselves, so they sold the rights. That way, they get guaranteed money for selling the rights instead of having to spend the money to produce the DVDs for a questionable return.

That & the fact that they just want too make money any way they can.

Here have a pink elephant : :pink: It's name is Emma and she's a mutant elephant with an attitude and psychic abilities :P

Anyways, I wonder if Evolution will get released on Season sets as well, I know there are already volume sets out, but it would be better to have full season volumes (especially since I missed out on them).

Ah, Emma. The B**** I love to hate. :p

As for X-Men: Evolution, they only released season 3 as a complete set, then they just stopped releasing the rest of the series. Hopefully this will have good enough sales (Which I'm sure it will) that they'll release the rest of Evolution as well as release the first two seasons in sets.

That is what I thought, to me x men belongs in a disney store as much as star trek does.
No matter how good they may be, or no matter how many right disney my have to x men , they just have nothing to do with disney.
But I am looking forwards too buying them if my family does not get them.

I bet these won't include subtitles (Yes, I like subtitles). I'll buy them anyway, cause its another cartoon to introduce my nephews to (I've introduced them to 80s He-Man and She-Ra and the original Speed Racer cartoons).

But at least they are releasing them! The only X-Men cartoons I own on an official release is the Phoenix Saga.
