Well, it's not gonna be some crazy drastic change. She's still gonna be the red poofy haired, pale, freckled girl we see here... but it will obviously be more refined than this.Semaj wrote:I hope they don't change the lead heroine's appearance if she's decided to be "ugly". Disney can do the straight-haired petite stuff, but let Pixar try something different.SWillie! wrote:You guys really can't tell if that's concept art or not? All four are paintings, with absolute certainty. A lot of you are being way too harsh on especially Merida's design. They will all look as different in the CG as Rapunzel and Flynn did after first seeing sketches of the two of them.

Well that's definitely concept art because Entertainment Weekly has a better view of Merida right here. Wow! The goodies really keep on coming don't they?

Yeah I'm not too sure about Merida's design at the moment. I love her hair because it's about time they had a heroine with big curly hair. (Although kinda Esmerelda.) But I agree she looks a little too young and baby/cherub faced, unless she's supposed to look like that.
Another thing I want to add, how exactly will this fit into Pixar's general theme of films? Pixar are notorious for their 'teamup' stories. Usually involving animals or objects. Their films normally focus on non humans so I wonder what they will do with this film to make it not hugely stand out or seem odd with the others.
Well... I guess the Incredibles had humans as leads so maybe it won't be odd...

To be honest, I still don't think we've gotten a good look at her officially. I think her design will work fine once we see it in the context of the film.

While I know I took some liberties with the colors I really enjoyed working on the hair.
This drawing put me in the mood, so I did some coloring on the sketch.SWillie! wrote:Thanks enigmawing
This poster put me in the mood, so I did a quick sketch of Merida. (Click on the image to see it bigger on my blog)

Same here, I was looking forward to seeing the teaser but it wasn't there before the movieRIPJoeRanft wrote:I thought that the Brave teaser was debuting with Cars 2? Definitely didn't see it tonight at the midnight showing, but saw about 10 other trailers (The Muppets, new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, Puss in Boots, Happy Feet 2, new Spy Kids, etc.)

Re: My opinions about Merida and her mother
I doubt that. Isn't red hair a recessive gene? I'm pretty sure both parents have to pass it along.Jackoleen wrote:She looks SO unlike Merida that one has to wonder if poor Merida is the spirited love child of her father and a red-haired, adventurous sprite of a lass! $1,000,000 says that Merida's FATHER was the one who gave her that red hair and those blue eyes!
Also, I don't think the Queen is an evil character at all. At most, from the synopsis, she could be a Triton-esque figure.
Actually, this movie may turn into what I initially expected TP&TF to be (way back when the first details for that were released): a mother-daughter film. Has there ever been one?
The sad part is, I'm serious--I can't think of a mother-daughter animated film.

Well, they're usually dead before the movie starts. Y'know, that Walt Disney and his mother problems!Disney's Divinity wrote:Actually, this movie may turn into what I initially expected TP&TF to be (way back when the first details for that were released): a mother-daughter film. Little Mermaid 2 and Tangled are mother/daughter animated films...if that counts.Disney's Divinity wrote:I doubt that. Isn't red hair a recessive gene? Also, what I read from Wiki is that the Queen is actually the damsel in distress in this. A curse is on her b/c of Merida, so Merida has to find the old woman to help her.

Am i the only person who thinks this picture is terrible .. she looks ugly and the animation looks terrible (i would never have expected this to come from pixar.) I personally think that this hasn't been properly animated yet and is only a rough animated design because i can't understand how she can look like that and then so much better in that previous concept art.
here /
The dresses arn't even the same!! surely it can't be a final design??
i hope pixar isn't going down hill .... the reviews of Cars 2 look terrible and is being labled as pixar first bad movie ... i hope not - i love pixar and i love all their previous movies from ants to toy story..
All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. - Walt Disney
