Beauty and the Beast just crossed the $500 million mark at the domestic box office, making it the 8th movie ever to do so. It has earned over $1.2 billion so far and it's currently the 10th highest-grossing movie of all time at the worldwide box office!

At first I wanted this film to make a lot of money, but now I don't like that the quality of the film and its reviews doesn't match the money its making. Oh well, at least Disney's Divinity has something to be happy about. It's just sad when not very good films do so well financially. I liked the film, but I don't think it's really good. What will happen to the poor old better original film?

Worldwide Box Office Comparison
Beauty and the Beast: $1,234,123,999 (thus far)
Alice in Wonderland: $1,025,467,110
The Jungle Book: $966,550,600
Maleficent: $758,539,785
Cinderella: $543,514,353

Deserved, although TJB should be above AiW, imo.

I still maintain that the live-action films will have no bearing on the animated films' longevity. Of course, that question affects some films more than others. The animated Cinderella, especially, doesn't look like it'll have to worry about being eclipsed at all... :mischief:

Hehe, I was just about to post about the fact that Box Office Mojo had the numbers at 1234 123 999 (as of 29 May). Could be calling out to Japan for more people to help it beat Frozen (9th worldwide Box Office). Just fun Disney movie rivalry (These crazy Disney people  ).

It was sad that The Jungle Book didn't make it to $1 billion, it was so close. Maybe when the sequel comes out they'll re-release it and it could possibly make that extra $34 million.

I like the film (primarily because it brought back to that feeling of seeing the stage musical so many years ago), but I do find it a tad unsettling how close it's coming to surpassing "Frozen" and all other animated films on the worldwide grossers chart. As if it to say audiences would like animated films a lot more if they were live-action and that's a disappointing sentiment.

Well, that's good.

And that's even better. Thanks. :)

Yea estefan, I do worry like you. But the amount of money a film makes doesn't seem to indicate how loved and lasting the films really are, like Divinity suggests.

That is true. The live-action version of 101 Dalmatians was also a big hit back in the day, but it's the animated one that is remembered far more today.

Case in point. And I think they also made a TJB nobody remembers.

I hate to complain, but Amazon STILL doesn't have this blu-ray listing up yet, it's still "unavailable". I thought about pre-ordering from Target or Best Buy, but I like having all of my online blu-ray orders come from the same place so I can look up past orders efficiently.

I know Amazon has had a beef with Disney, or vice-versa, for the past few years - but it's high time to get over it and go back to having timely pre-orders!!! ARGH.

My mother just bought the DVD. I’ll try to visit her soon to re-watch and check out the bonus features.

I do plan to get the soundtrack at some point, but I’m strapped at the moment. If it was $10 instead of $15-18, I’d probably have already got it. :/ I’ve been listening to it on YouTube regularly in the meantime.

I've heard that the actual physical disc lacks the commentary and that it isn't available on Disney Movies Anywhere either. It is only on Vudu for some reason.

If you redeem the Disney Movie Reward points, then the soundtrack is offered at a cheaper price. I think's it $10 although that probably doesn't include shipping.

Update for Japan: Rank
Week 1 ~$12.6M (#1)
Week 2 ~$20.3M ($33M) (#1)
Week 3 ~$27M ($60.1M) (#1)
Week 4 ~$10.9M ($71M) (#1)
Week 5 ~$8.7M ($79.8M) (#1)
Week 6 ~$6.8M ($86.6M) (#1)
Week 7 ~$6.17M ($92.8M) (#1)

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id ... st2017.htm
Worldwide: $1.241 Billion ($739 Million International).
If it is to pass Frozen it needs another $36 million. The gap against The Fate of the Furious has widen as well. At its peak it was about $6 or so million behind Beauty and the Beast, but now it is nearly $12 million behind. Logan just opened in Japan at number 2, so I guess they are not big (giant) on Marvel or maybe non-local comic book movies. But A Silent Voice made $20 million and was considered a big hit, so these movies that make multiple times that, must seem gigantic (some Disney movies, Studio Ghibli movies and hits like Your Name ($235M - Japan) and Mamoru Hosoda movies).

Didn't like that review. I felt that it was trashing this remake at the expense of the animated predecessor, as most of the reviewers of this film have done. And frankly, Honest Trailers were trashing the animated The Jungle Book, when in fact it's better than it gives credit for (yes The Jungle Book is hampered by some faults, but frankly it is a movie that deserves it's position).

Am I the only one who didn't know Agathe the enchantress was the narrator until I watched the film with subtitles?! It would have been nice if they revealed who it was or gave some clue...
