Beauty and the Beast (Live-Action)

Post by MerXAN »

I found this article on Wikipedia:

There have been sources reporting that writers at Disney are in the process of writing a script for the live-action adaptation of the Broadway musical. They will be sending out casting calls sometme during the summer of 2008. But Anne Hathaway has been in very high consideration to play Belle. Other than that no other information has been released.

Here's the link:

Wouldn't it be great?

Anne Hathaway would be a great choice!

She really looks like Belle in this picture:

Wikipedia isn't well known for being truthful all the time, but it would be nice if they did make the movie.

Anne Hathaway would be a very good Belle. But I heard she and Disney are on bad terms because she violated a term in her contract with Disney after doing Brokeback Mountain. At least that's why I heard there was no PD3.

According to Hathway's Wiki, PD3 is in post production set for a 2009 release...yet IMDB makes no mention of it.

Makes me think some Hathaway fan is running amok on Wiki

I agree, because, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't Hathaway say at one point that she didn't want to do anymore "princess" movies?

I don't think Anne Hathaway would play a good Belle IMO.
Don't get me wrong, I do like her, but she doesn't fit Belle at all. Looks nothing like her either.

Belle doesn't really look like the animated Belle, though she does look like the Broadway Belle, which is what the supposed film is going to be based on.

Did a black actress play Belle on stage before? Brandy maybe? So in the looks department, if the movie is being made and its based on the Broadway show more than the animated picture, then race doesn't matter, much less facial shape

And Havoc.

Also, PD2 didn't do as well financially or critically as Disney would have liked, so PD3 would have been unlikely anyway.

Anyway, I've removed the blurb from the Broadway BATB wiki page (as well as Hathaway's wiki page) because there's no legitimate citation yet.

I'd like to see Rachael Leigh Cook in the role, but I don't have any reason to suspect that she can sing. To me though, Anne Hathaway is the wrong choice. I'd rather see Emmy Rossum in the part, though I would prefer someone else, ha.

She sounded fairly well in Josie and the Pussycats! Unless they just dubbed her. :P

Ugh, not Emmy Rossum. She has one expression: Deer in headlights.

Regardless, I don't see this happening. It just seems pointless.

They did. They dubbed her with the lead singer from Letters to Cleo. Still a great movie though!

About a BatB film, I could go either way on it. It would be cool to see, but I won't be heart broken if it doesn't happen.

I would love to see it made too. Just wonder if it would be.

So all this talk about Belle. What about Beast? Who should play him?

It's funny I was just thinking about this today!

I really hope they do make this. 2011 would be the 20th anniversary of the movie and would be a prefect time for it to come full circle (film - broadway - film).

I'm not sure on cast, just so long as they look and sound the part! Susan Egan and Terrence Mann would be great (if they still look young enough). Steve Blanchard played Beast for years so he could do the role, Anneliese van der Pol is certainly young enough and was very good when I saw the show last year. Ashley Brown was great on the On the Record CD and went on to play Belle and Mary Poppins on Broadway and, like Susan Egan, could reprise the role if she looks young enough.

Really hope they do this (and the Hunchback TV special of Der Glockner there was talk of a few years back).

Not sure on Anne Hathaway as I've never heard her sing.
