That's so short! I'm so glad we got the full song as audio at least. I've noticed the live-action Aladdin and Tangled were two movies that seemed to be ashamed of being musicals; both of them had their musical theater aspects underplayed and their songs shortened.

In the case of Aladdin, maybe it has to do with the fact that Guy Ritchie doesn't have a musical theatre background. But, to be fair, as beautiful as "Desert Moon" is, it isn't really necessary for advancing the plot. I think it was cut due to pacing issues. They probably tried to shorten it first to solve the problem, but that didn't work and they decided to cut it altogether.
I think the length was well-suited to what they wanted for the film, you know, Jasmine and Aladdin are sad Aladdin had to break his promise, it only needs a moment, but then he comes back to make it up to her later in the film.
It's great that they've released the full scene online. I didn't expect they would do that when it's a special feature on the Blu-ray. And I didn't know it was meant to be a song that both Aladdin and Jasmine remember from when they were children.
^Thanks for sharing! I had noticed the first one was in the trailers but not in the movie. And the scene where the Genie talks about previous masters whose wishes went wrong was quite funny, they should've kept it in the movie.
I think they should have kept the first scene, the hot prince visiting Jasmine with a canon scene, and the previous masters scene! I loved all of those!
Trying to resist the deleted scenes until I get the Blu-Ray. No idea why really!
Agree with D82 though, as much as I love Desert Moon it doesn't advance the story so a shorten version (and ultimately being cut) makes sense to me. Very glad we got the full song released.

Lol same, although now I'm tempted to take a sneak peek because of all the comments on the scenes.

The original Aladdin and Jasmine approve of the remake.
Q: How did it feel to see your story being repurposed for the live-action movie?
Scott Weinger: I loved it. In addition to the fact that the movie was great and they made it their own and Mena Massoud was good, and Naomi [Scott] was amazing, and of course, Will Smith and the whole gang, I love that it sort of brought Aladdin into the front row of pop culture again. It's pretty insane. Because it didn't just start a conversation about that, it brought our movie back into the conversation.
Linda Larkin: I loved seeing Jasmine's role expanded. That was, for me, so exciting in the live-action. It was really special.

I'm glad they liked it, especially the part about bringing Aladdin back to the forefront. They sound far more genuine than Paige O'Hara did when talking about the live-action BATB. And just to clarify, that isn't a dig at O'Hara but at the lackluster remake.

Me and a few others noticed it and talked about it here! I love it! He even throws sand over it like the Disney dust that goes over the castle in the opening logos for Disney movies!
I would've liked for Linda Larkin to get more opportunities to stand up to Jafar in the original film the way Naomi Scott did in the re-make. I think Larkin was more than capable. I've mentioned somewhere before already that my favorite scene of Jasmine's is when she refuses to bow to Jafar, although I always laugh at her rolling her eyes and scoffing at Aladdin during the "Prince Ali" sequence, too.
I watched the deleted scenes, but I don't feel too bad about any of them getting the cut. The extended scene with the first suitor (where he blows up his own ship) is funny, I guess.

Thanks for posting! It's interesting how they were going for a Genie that more closely resembled the animated version in the beginning, probably before they cast Will Smith. Dark Genie is really intriguing as a concept. I wonder what they planned for that. The second image is basically what ended up becoming Jafar in his genie form.
