Tarzan First Impressions
Today I watched Tarzan for the very first time and I thought it was a great movie, definately better than I thought it would be. I bet if this was released 10 years ago or so it could fall into the PE releases, however, my 2-Disc CE version is good enough.
What did you guys think of the film?

in my opinion, Tarzan is one of the best disney movies EVER, and it has the same quality level as Beauty and the Beast, little mermaid, lion king or Aladdin.
When I first saw it, actually when I first saw the trailer, I was very impressed by that Deep Canvas Jungle, the Character animation through the trees and Phill´s Music, I was totally shocked.

I'ts enough for this restless warrior just to be with you...
I was surprised by how good it was as well. Kinda made me wish I had seen it in theatres instead of on video.
But my first impression of Tarzan was that he was sexy. . .
And if you don't think that animated characters can be sexy, tell that to all the middle-aged Japanese business men who collect anime porn.

For me it is just good as a whole. I know the animation and music are awesome but as a whole I don't like it that much.
Maybe it is because I basically never liked the Tarzan story.
I've tried and tried to make the movie grow on me but still nothing. Enough to say that I have the single disc edition and quite happy with it.
This is quite the opposite with Pocahontas. I bought the Gold Collection because altough I knew the DVD was so so I tought that I would never like the movie that much as to upgrade it. It proved me wrong.

its called hentai (for future refernce-) it literally means perverted...grossanime porn.
i love tarzan, it is one of my favourites.
It falls prey to that annoying sidekick voice sydrome that many disney films have...*goughgodfriedcough*
the animation is beautiful and very endearing. the first scene in that movie is one of the best in cinema, i used it in a media studies essay and got an A+ thankuverymush!:)
i loved the subtle relationship between tarzan and kerchak- in fact kerchak is one of my favourite animated characters, its a shame there isnt more available on him eg clipart, images, stills, refernece material etc.

I thought it was excellent. when I first heard they were doing it I was a little concerned because Disney doesn't usually adapt a story that has had so many adaptions before. However, the Tarzan concept was a perfect fit for Disney Animation. They kept all the iconic things that are associated with Tarzan (like the Jungle yell, swinging on vines etc.) and they kept the setting in the jungle instead of having Tarzan actually going back to England like in the books. The only dark spot on the film is Rosie O'Donnel's character who I don't think is really all that appealing at all. (kind of a wanna be Thumper without the cuteness). However the rest of the film more than makes up for this.

Tarzan Discussion
I searched, and was a little surprised there was no Tarzan discussion thread, out of the other Disney animated movie discussions. So I thought I'd start it. It is an interesting film for the studio, it's considered a good film, not considered great and not factually as big a hit as Disney's previous 90's films, but it was still a hit and got good reviews. The animation of Tarzan surfing the trees, with all it's depth and 3-dimensional qualities, was ground-breaking, was it not? And in a way, the movie kind of returned to some Disney roots in someone singing in the background, but none of the characters singing. This was first done with Bambi, before which, if there was any singing in a film, it was done by the characters. No mysterious voices coming from no where. Wait, didn't Terk, and the other animals, sing in the "Trashin' the Camp" song?
Which brings me to the real reason why I made this thread, to ask an important question. Terk is voiced by Rosie O' Donnell, a woman. But Terk was always kind of boyish, even in look (the short "butch" hair). But I swear I've seen/heard some incarnations where he was played or voiced by a male, like previews for Disney On Ice I think, and he was played by a young man, Chester Gregory II, in the Broadway musical. So my question is: Is Terk a boy or a girl?

Tarzan First Impressions by panhead4life (created October 25, 2004)
I voted for "Excellent" in panhead's poll.
Anyway, I'm a bit pressed for time, so I'll return with a more lengthy post later...
ETA:
"Terk" is short for "Terkina", which is used by Terk's mother. So I'd assume Terk's a girl, even though she's played by males in the broadway version, the on ice version, etc.

Terk (to me) is a girl. When she's played by a guy onstage, Terk is a guy. Kinda like how Rafiki is a woman in the stage show of "The Lion King". I was actually kinda surprised Terk wasn't kept a girl for the stage show.

i love tarzan! when it was released i thought it was one of the most innovative and beautifully animated film.maybe the reason its not gaining as much popularity as the other disney incarnations is that there's been an abundant of tarzan movies out there in the film catalogues that makes it not stand out as unique.in fact i even sent an email of protest to disney for tackling such commonly intepreted novel into its animated cannon.apparently i was a stupid 17 years old back then who'd think disney would listen to one ranting email.
anyway, 8 years on the novelty of this movie has sort of died.added by the reputation of the horrendously composed broadway musical. looking back, it was an excellent film.just not as definitive as other titles.what makes disney special is their movies usually becomes the definitive version of each story i.e snow white, sipinbooty and such. tarzan is just well, a good version of burrough's novel.
my favorite character in the movie would have to be jane.
btw, can anyone rip the babboon chase score into mp3. i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it. too bad it wasnt on the soundtrack, its the second most sought after track for me, after mulan's decision.( which i already have now) oh! and also sabor's attack(the baby and the adult version). i know one of u guys here r rip wizards.so do me this favor and i shall thank u for life!
1999 rating for tarzan 4.5/5
2007 rating for tarzan 3/5

I've always wanted the girl who was supposed to be his mother in the movie to be Jane! I've always thought she's much more beautiful than Jane. On the other hand I love Jane's character. Ken Duncan (Jane's animator) is very good actually- he designed Megara after all!- but Glen Keane, who designed Tarzan's mom, does it better!!

Well, I watched Tarzan a couple hours ago. I'm getting through the DACs I haven't watched in a long time, and I'm almost done!
I absolutely adore Tarzan. I have a hard time ranking the films, but this one is definitely up there for me. I laugh, I cry...and cry some more. I love the animation. Tarzan is my second favorite Disney human boy; I just really like his character- I love how the human world is so new to him, and how he is just confused and is learning so much, about being an ape and a man. And of course the movie is so lush, the animation is so great. I really do love the story- even if you know everything that happens, it's still funny, sad, and exciting, at the correct moments (ya know...that parts that are supposed to be funny are still funny the umpteenth time you watch the film...or at least the umpteenth time I watch the film!).
The music is some of my favorite Disney music, along with Oliver and Company and Pete's Dragon. I don't know what it is about it; I'm just very drawn to it.
Something I noticed while watching that I had never noticed before: Near the beginning, in the elephant hair scene, there is Terk and her two male ape friends. They turn out to be wimps, and Tarzan isn't. Part of what I'm thinking could just be Tarzan's character, who he is, but: Does anyone find it interesting how Tarzan is the one to take over for Kerchak? I mean, sure, Tarzan tried saving Kerchak. What I'm trying to say is, I'm not sure what the male to female ratio is as far as the younger males (meaning non-Kerchak) to the younger females (meaning Terk and her generation, not the mothers). How many other males were there (we know that there are Terk's two friends, but are there others?)? If Terk's two friends were the only other males in the family, then we can see why Tarzan stepped up (but that could just be his character, being brave and doing the right thing). I just wondered that while watching the movie.

To be honest, I find Tarzan to be a very weak film. Though I think Tarzan, the character, is rather likable, the movie's full of bland characters and designs, as well as a boring and formulaic story. The music is the only highlight of the film. And the animation, of course, is beautiful, but it, like Atlantis, can't be saved when the rest of the film is weak. Unfortunately, it's one of the few Disney films where, everytime I watch it, I get bored about midway through it.
Listening to most often lately:
Ariana Grande ~ "we can't be friends (wait for your love)"
Ariana Grande ~ "imperfect for you"
Kacey Musgraves ~ "The Architect"
