I'm not here to rank, just here to say that I rewatched most of the films after Raya and had some observations about some of them.

I'll start with Tangled and Frozen I think both are similar in some ways, especially the way they rely on people's nostalgia of past Disney films and I think that's one of the reasons why people really love both. However, where they differ is the way each approaches and handles that nostalgia. While Tangled seems to copy characters, dynamics and scenes from previous films, Frozen seems to subvert and deconstruct them. I guess that's why there was such a huge "war" between fans of the two, and I guess to me this sort of makes the films complement each other. I'm not sure which approach I like better, but it dawned on me that I don't feel as strongly as I used to while watching these films, at times I was thinking about just watching The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast again instead. It was kind of depressing to be honest.

Which brings me to The Princess and the Frog, which I really fell in love with and regret overlooking this film all these years. I feel like what it excels at is doing a completely fresh and original story while applying the "Disney magic". I think it's something about Musker and Clements, they always set out to do something different than anything they've done before. Just like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin weren't made to be exactly like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, but also not to subvert then. They gave us new things but they still feel like they fit together with previous films and I think The Princess and the Frog is the same.

I still enjoyed Zootopia, but it was a different kind of enjoyment, the kind that is similar to my enjoyment of Pixar films. I guess that the best description for this film would be "The best Pixar film WDAS ever made". Though I also feel that because it's a detective kind of film, it was less engaging after I know all the twists.

A few words on Frozen II, I think the themes and Elsa's arc are more interesting than the first film, but the execution still feels a little bit sloppy that it's really hard for me to finish the film sometimes.

I'm sorry if this post seems negative, I didn't intend this.

Are you referring to Gothel = Lady Tremaine? ...that's all I've got. Can you elaborate more on this?

I'm glad that you <3 TP&tF. It's such a great film. I never get tired of Zootopia, but I can definitely understand people feeling that way, with a lot of the twist villain films, I suppose.

Yes, sort of. Gothel = Lady Tremaine, Rapunzel = Ariel. Their relationship dynamic is like Frollo and Quasimodo's, Flynn is based on Dreamworks guys. I felt that "I See the Light" is very much a combination of Kiss the Girl and A Whole New World. Rapunzel's story feels like it's taken from Anastasia (lost princess and everything), Flynn dying at the end and coming back feels like the end of Beauty and the Beast. The film really feels like a collage of previous films and it was more apparent to me after watching the Princess films back to back. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy it to some extent, I still like the reprise of Mother Knows Best and Kingdom Dance.

Thank you for explaining! You know, that's probably why I love "I See the Light" so much. :)

I always saw the Rapunzel = Ariel, When My Life Begins (Reprise 2) = POYW (Reprise), I See the Light = Kiss the Girl / AWNW, and the ending = Beast's death and resurrection stuff, which is why I always disliked that film, tbh. I still like Rapunzel and, despite the design similarities, she does feel different enough from Ariel overall for me to appreciate her as her own character, too. After all, I know Ariel borrows from Alice herself somewhat. But "I See the Light" was never as powerful as those former Menken ballads, mostly because the directors wanted to downplay the musical aspect of the film. I guess because I didn't like Flynn back then, it doesn't resonate as much as Beast dying for Belle's sake, although they both have a redemptive story from selfish jerk to lover.

I'm not completely sure if I like Moana or Raya and the Last Dragon more. I rewatched Raya recently and I wanted to watch Moana again too now that I have Raya fresh in my mind to better compare the two, but I haven't done it yet. Anyway, I think my ranking would most likely be like this:

01. Tangled
02. Zootopia
03. Moana
04. Raya and the Last Dragon
05. The Princess and the Frog
06. Frozen
07. Meet the Robinsons
08. Wreck-It Ralph
09. Winnie the Pooh
10. Bolt
11. Big Hero 6
12. Ralph Breaks the Internet
13. Frozen II

TANGLED for this guy. And FROZEN FOR the QUEEN.

Woulda liked Moana too but it doesn't have an attractive male lead. Kristoff at least is kinda cute in an ugly dirty sorta way.

I added the dashes to separate them into tiers. Anyway, I was posting to say that I'm expecting Encanto to end up in the same tier as Tangled and Winnie the Pooh right now.

I loved Frozen (both 1 and 2), The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Zootopia. I liked Moana, but it wasn't that memorable. Raya and the Last Dragon was great, but the only character I liked was Sisu. If it wasn't for her, the movie would have sucked.

Are we still in the same era? I feel like the revival era ended with Lasseter leaving (don’t worry he’s still a scumbag to me). With Jen Lee taking over and the shift in focus to streaming series I feel like we should be in a new era now.

The Jennifer Lee era is shaping up better than the Lasseter Era so far. She's 3/4 for me so far, if Ralph Breaks the Internet is the starting point (Lee was put in charge the June before it was released). Naturally, I don't put RBtI fully on her, since I'm sure it was way too far along to be simply cancelled once she took over. Even though I do think the first one is a smidgen better, it's a meaningless difference considering how disposable both films are, and RBtI has left a bigger mark with me at least thanks to the Menken song and the Wrecked Princesses. *shrug*

I feel like Moana is objectively a better film than Encanto, imo (and certainly had the better soundtrack overall, even if I think "We Don't Talk About Bruno" by itself is better than anything in Moana). I put Encanto higher because I found it much more emotionally resonant than Moana; you could feel the heavy interference with Moana and how blandified and sanded down everything was.

I'm surprised this thread died so quickly... Surely more people have seen Encanto by this point? :?

I only saw Ralph Breaks the Internet, because of the Princesses. The movie ended up being enjoyable, though, but not so memorable. I find the character of Vanellope to be extremely annoying. The Gal Gadot character was awesome, though.

I ranked these from scratch rather than simply tacking on Strange World to my last list, but they ended up being ranked almost the same anyway otherwise. So my mind mostly hasn't changed on any of the newer films.

1. Frozen
2. The Princess and the Frog
3. Raya and the Last Dragon
4. Frozen II
5. Zootopia
6. Encanto
7. Tangled
8. Moana
9. Strange World
10. Winnie the Pooh
11. Wreck-It Ralph
12. Ralph Breaks the Internet
13. Big Hero 6

I liked Strange World overall despite a few flaws, but naturally I'm more drawn to the "princess" films.

I had no idea how long this would take me, haha!

1. Frozen
2. Tangled
3. The Princess and the Frog
4. Moana
5. Encanto
6. Zootopia
7. Wreck-It Ralph
8. Big Hero 6
9. Frozen II
10. Strange World
11. Raya and the Last Dragon
12. Ralph Breaks the Internet
13. Winnie the Pooh

I have to say, I'm kinda surprised how I ranked some of these after taking a while to think about them. For example, I didn't expect myself to rank Frozen as #1. I often avoid it because it's so beloved and I'm contrarian enough to pass it for that reason, but when all things are considered it's loved for a reason.
