Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

I don't mind the color of Ariel's hair in this, at least it's "red." I found Amber Heard's bright red wig in Aquaman super distracting (but that could also have been because it was obviously synthetic hair) so I'm glad at least I won't have to look at something like that for 90 minutes.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

I thought the new trailer had some pretty striking visuals. Did it look as pristine as the underwater scenes in Avatar? Well of course not. But I found the footage pretty memorable, which is good. The shot of her heading towards the surface is cool and I like how colorful the under water scenes look...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills reading this thread sometimes. One low-res potentially altered photo of McCarthy from the movie, and suddenly it's "virtue-signaling" to make Ursula somewhat pretty? Ursula always had some glamour about her. Just because McCarthy isn't as huge as the orig...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

I watched the leaked trailer (found the bright one with decent quality) and I'm very excited for Melissa's portrayal. Seems very creepy and her voice is awesome. Halle sounds and looks great from what I can see as well. Will be interesting to hear the singing for Ursula and Triton, but Rob Marshall ...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

The character design I'm most worried about is Sebastian. It was always going to be an uphill battle to make that character work in live action, and the cover of that book seems to imply he's going to look like a basically photo real crab. I cannot imagine that looking anything but inhumanly creepy...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

Well sure it'd be nice if the other performances weren't dogsh*t, but the reputation of this movie will be incredibly affected by the response to McCarthy. Even if everyone else is stellar, if she's underwhelming, that's gonna be the headline. And on the flip side, if everyone else is mediocre, but ...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

Good to hear that Melissa McCarthy was well received and is potentially the standout. Truly the fate of this movie hangs on that performance. If she looks silly in the costume/CGI or the performance is underwhelming, the movie as a whole will suffer greatly. Moreso than even if Halle is underwhelming.

Re: Disenchanted

I always thought Susan Sarandon was awful in the first film. But even if she hadn't been a clunker in the role, I wasn't crazy about the design of the character either. The weird gloves that make her look like a mad scientist always irked me (maybe it was a reference to Yzma though?), and overall s...

Re: Disenchanted

Watched this last night. Amy Adams was really selling what was there, and Maya Rudolph was enjoyable to watch. Their song together was, I suppose, the highlight of the movie. Liked the costumes as well. But otherwise, I was underwhelmed by most of this. I thought the songs were all pretty bland or f...

Re: Dame Angela Lansbury R.I.P.

A very sad loss for the entertainment (and especially theatre) world. But lord what a life! 97 years old and accomplished more as a performer than most could ever dream of. I'm so glad we have so much of her iconic performances preserved forever. Rest in Peace Miss Lansbury.

Re: Hocus Pocus on Broadway

It would likely be a seasonal show they bring in during the autumn months, much like they often re-mount Elf or A Christmas Carol during the winter months.

The exclamation point at the end implied excitement about there being 3 million dislikes. It was off-putting.

Re: Hocus Pocus 2

Lord-of-sith , your story idea is cool! The kids' peformances in the original were not Oscar-worthy, of course, but they were way, way better than the kids in the sequel. Dani herself was a much better actress than all three new girls. The kids here were kinda cringey. I kept rolling my eyes when t...

Re: Hocus Pocus 2

I quite enjoyed this! SPOILERS ahead : I think a lot of people wear nostalgia goggles for the original (and I'm definitely one of those) and aren't realizing that a lot of the "issues" with this movie are super present in the original as well. The teenagers' acting is kind of bland and che...

Bette Midler has often tried to emulate Mae West, and "Hello Sailors" is definitely a saying in the vein of Mae West. Every script and caption for it says "Salem" so...

In the movie she says "Hello Salem!" 100%. She just changed her wording for her tweet.
