I'd say the creative process of making these films include transforming the core ideas inherent in those initial concepts into a shape that works on film. So using the sketches in the film would basically be the same, just in a form that wouldn't work very well on film... :P Still an interesting ide...

That one is an older one, and most probably PoS. Why they even bothered to make it P&S when they already had the 1955 Academy ratio version seems pretty stupid, though. Those probably were Frank and Ollie - they were no doubt the most high-profile of the remaining old men in later years, although Marc Davis and Ward Kimball were also still alive and were interviewed now and then. The "black centaurette" is first and foremost a "cartoony" character. That does make her quite out of place compared to the other "centaurettes", but it is, on the other hand, still quite in keeping with several other characters in the Beethoven segment.

As for "tiny kingdoms": You'll find plenty if you have a look at a map of Germany or Italy prior to 1860-70.

I don't know if there's anything that says "Germany" specifically, but I've also always guessed that it'd have to be somewhere in middle Europe or probably the Alpine region.

My solution: The characters in the shorts aren't first and foremost characters - they are actors!

Sad news indeed, but hardly shocking. It's great that he got to live for 95 years - essentially as a success both personally and artistically.

Does anyone know what this edition is compared to the old "Carl Barks Library"?

And that's indeed very important. The step from standard DVD to blu-ray isn't going to be that huge after all...

If anything, I'd say SotS is somewhat "lame"... But the animated pieces are certainly good.

Very roughly "most" characters of animated cartoons looked like Mickey Mouse back in the 20s. A lot more than this toy.
