Re: Is Disney's Revival Era Over?

Now, if the stories, characters, plots start to follow the strict buddy roadtrip formula less and feature a touch more creativity now that Lasseter no longer has his grimy hands on everything--and I hope so-- that may distinguish the next films as their own era. So far Disney is not suffering finan...

Disney film ideas that would make an awful film if made today.

Over the years there have been literature we’d like to see adapted as a Disney film, whether live action or animated. What Disney film ideas do you have that would have been great to have been made in the past but think it would be awful if made today?

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)

To be fair, that whole discourse regarding this movie and race-swapping was initially fueled and in a way started by Rachel. I honestly wouldn’t have even given it a second thought if it weren’t for her comments. She actually looks like Snow White whereas Halle looks nothing like Ariel.

I agree with this. That’s the right way. Not “fixing” already existing stories and characters.

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)

They land in a very similar space for me. Every comment Watson made in celebration of Belle was ALWAYS in the context of Belle being the first , or sometimes the only , good Disney Princess. She probably hates Snow White and Cinderella even more than Zegler, but she didn't get anywhere near this de...

According to Green Mythology, he is an actual god.

Re: Ariel (Disney Junior)

Both Ursula and Triton will be Black in this show. This confirms it's a reboot with no ties to the animated original or the live-action remake. If you ask me, rebooting/reimagining a classic in animation is worse than doing it in live-action. It creates more brand confusion and dilutes the IP. Ther...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

I’m trying to wrap my mind around how the creators of the live action film sat around thinking everything we’re criticizing from the casting to the art direction to the story changes was a good idea. Who’s hiring these people with such little taste and sense?

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

They didn’t risk with her design because they were affraid to make sonething that fans didn’t like. We got an Ariel that doesn’t look like Ariel. I don’t think they were afraid of what fans thought. The concept art looked more magical and funny, the final product is really basic and the only cute t...

Why does it make me keep re-logging back in like 6 times each time to post? Then what I type is deleted and I have to retype it.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

Why would OG fans be more upset about Halle Bailey’s skin color than the fact Emma Watson couldn’t sing??? A lot of fans were upset by both. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Personally, I find the only princess who was cast right in the remakes to be Jasmine. At least Emma Watson actually lo...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

But they are different, too. Compare Cinderella and Belle’s costumes and hairstyles to the originals. People judged those changes on their own merits. 2015 Cinderella’s ballgown and hair is pretty popular despite how different it is from the animated movie. But Cinderella and Belle were still ident...

A lot of fans were upset by both. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Personally, I find the only princess who was cast right in the remakes to be Jasmine. I admit my phrasing was clumsy. What I meant to articulate is that to my mind, the 2023 Ariel is a lot more faithful to the 1989 Ariel than...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

The biggest problem with the film is that I feel that fans of the original film were cheated in getting the film they always envisioned in a live action Little Mermaid film. It was not the film they wanted. Ariel wasn’t the Ariel they expected to see on screen. To me it didn’t even feel like it was...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

I think if this film did anything it made me appreciate the original more. I always thought Ariel was an entitled, selfish brat and a poor role model for young girls. I still feel that way but it is a very well crafted film with fantastic songs, The live action remake’s strengths was the story and s...

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)

I didn't see Maleficent as an update, so much as a revisionist story much like Wicked. With SW, I personally don't mind them having another song that subtly counters SDMPWC--those old Walt films sometimes verged on propaganda to me. I just don't like them copying Mirror, Mirror and OUAT as far as m...

I never liked this movie or the music apart from the Bruno song, I also remember most people saying the movie was meh when it came out theatrically (disney fans and general audience) and then the movie exploted on disney plus and everybody called it a masterpiece. I thought the film was enjoyable visually and musically. Unfortunately I felt like I was watching a montage most of the time, if that makes any sense.

Well, how do you define “whiteness”?
