While I will agree that most of the Disney Blu releases have been excellent (in terms of quality and supplemental material), I do find their release strategy a bit puzzling, but hardly surprising. Movies like Oliver and Company and Bedknobs and Broomsticks might not sell anywhere near as many copies...

I haven't really done anything with BD-Live, since it would require buying yet another piece of equipment (aka a wireless network router), which at this point I'm unwilling to buy. That may prove to be BD-Live's biggest challenge, whether people will be willing to buy yet another piece of equipment ...

Julian, Just out of curiousity, what kind of HDTV do you have. Is is a 720p TV or a 1080p? The only reason I ask is that I originally bought into Blu-Ray, I was using a 720p set. The video quality was definitely improved over standard def DVD, but what I found was that upconverted DVD was just about...

I can't help you much with audio questions, but there are other things to consider when picking a Blu-Ray player: In my opinion, one of the biggest things to consider when buying a Blu-Ray player is firmware support. Unfortunately, Blu-Ray is still not yet at the point where one can simply pop a dis...

In the end, neither park is gonna put the other one out of business. The first few weeks the Harry Potter section open, Disney will likely be pretty dead. But once the novelty of it being brand new wears off, it will all get back to normal really. Disney really should put some money into making som...

I've just read Luke's review, so I think I'll respond primarily to that rather than issues in this thread: Firstly, the fact that Disney has only sent out Blu-ray screeners of Pinocchio is just as likely to be because the release comes with a DVD (so people reviewers can comment on the DVD quality)...

It's no secret that I invested and actually preferred HD DVD (mainly for its uniform region-free stance). By saying that I've made myself as much of a target for Blu-ray fanatics as Luke has with his editorial. But its no secret why most studios preferred Blu-ray - and its nothing to do with qualit...

I have also read Luke's review of Pinocchio, and while I already have bought into Blu-Ray (2007), I actually pretty much agree with what Luke said in that review. I agree that Blu-Ray a wonderful format, that does offer some a great hi-def picture and the ability to offer some really wonderful extra...

The new DVD and Blu-Ray definitely look more cleaned up, but overall I'm still hanging on to my original DVD version (most likely will buy the Blu version simply for the extras). Based on those screenshots, the film looks much darker than in the original DVD, which looks much brighter and, at least ...

I have nothing against people enjoying BlueRay, either! If people are happy with it: more power to them! Why would I want to deprive anyone from their enjoyment of films? I'm a film-lover myself. What I do hate, however, are posts like the one made by Beast. And I hate the way BluRay is indeed shov...

I don't post very often here, much more of a lurker, but I just had to weigh in on this whole Blu-Ray vs. DVD debate. I bought my first Blu-Ray player in 2007 (I now have two players), and have enjoyed many movies on the format. I also still continue to buy DVDs and enjoy movies on the DVD format. H...

A good thing however, is they've woken the sleeping giant that is Fox and MGM, and they've announced a huge slate of 29 titles for the rest of the year. That is, indeed a good thing. One has to wonder whether Fox would have announced anything if Paramount had remained format neutral. It is interest...

Well, I own both Blu Ray and HD DVD, so this news doesn't really matter. I'll still buy Paramount movies, just on HD DVD. With the studios unable to come up with one HD standard, I expect the CE companies are going to be looking at the viability of dual-format players. LG already has one (albeit wit...

There's probably not a need to panic at this point. Remember, you're only responsible for $50 worth of fraudulent charges made on a credit card, by law. I'm keeping watch on my credit card account that I use with DMC, and if I notice any unauthorized charges in my statement, I'll notify my credit ca...

Well, Doctor (:D) apart from Fox I think you're being a little unfair. Fox however deserve all the scorn that they get. In total the High-Def market is under 1% of all home entertainment sales. You can't expect everything to come out at once. But I would expect Sony to be more agressive on Blu-Ray ...

The Home Media Expo is currently under way this week in Las Vegas. Jennifer Netherby has written an article on the Hi-Def presence, or in this case, lack thereof at the Expo. The article may be read here: http://www.videobusiness.com/blog/1730000173/post/1840011984.html Here's a telling quote from N...

Well, it does take time - but start up a Java App on a PC when viewing a webpage and it takes time to initialise. It's (partly I think) just the nature of how Java works in general. But while it takes time, it's never taken over, say, 30 seconds for either Pirates disc to initialise on my PS3. Hell...
