23. Holes (2003)
Yet another great family classic from Disney: Holes. With so many modern movies centered around selfishness, finally a movie that teaches the virture of selflessness and caring for others. The plot is very clever and entertaining. The love story is also very touching, but not typically cheesey. I also loved Jon Voight in this movie. I kept wondering when Jon Voight was going to come into the movie, and then finally realized 3/4's of the way through that he is Mr. Sir!

There are so many reasons I like Holes. It's funny and it's sad. It has suspense and mystery. But the thing I like the most about Holes is that it's about family and friendship. Holes shows how the strength of family can pull you through any situation. How love transcends time and how being different from one another can pull you together. Its a classic family movie that will enjoyed by everyone for a long time.

I was finally able to watch Holes a few months ago when it came out on DVD. While director Andrew Davis' only other movie I enjoyed was The Fugitive, I felt that the live-action part of Disney was on a streak. Needless to say, I had high hopes for this movie. Someone had told me how this movie reminded them of old Disney classics, and I totally agree. There is a certain amount of magic and fairy-tale quality to the movie, as well as some great comedic moments and fantastic characters. Sigourney Weaver's Warden and Shia LaBeouf's Stanley Yelnats will become two of the most cherised characters in Disney movie history.
