The Incredibles FullScreen and Disney
Any idea on why Disney is pushing the Fullscreen on its presale offer on Direct Disney? I would get in on this offer but I want widescreen. Are they hoping that people buy fullscreen now and later on they might actually get a widescreen TV or see the light on letterbox and double dip and get a widescreen version? I am lucky enough to have a widescreen TV, but even if I had a regular TV I would still buy Widescreen. I guess I am a purist.

I'm guessing that Disney chose full screen copies because of the average soccer mom. Even though widescreen is the bigger seller, don't forget that a lot of soccer moms (and their kids) don't understand why those black bars are "covering up the picture," LOL. Maybe they felt it was better to know exactly what they had in stock instead of potentially confusing a customer with the wrong copy. Still, they are really missing out if they think they don't need to offer it in widescreen. Hey Disney, don't you want my money?
As for the free goodies from Wal-mart, perhaps that depends on your location. When the original Shrek DVD was released at my local Wal-mart, it came with a free bonus CD. When Shrek 2 was released, you had to pay extra for the bonus CD, and I really had to dig to find a widescreen copy.

Welcome redmikeu2 and whoo-hoo for choosing widescreen all the way!redmikeu2 wrote:Any idea on why Disney is pushing the Fullscreen on its presale offer on Direct Disney? I am lucky enough to have a widescreen TV, but even if I had a regular TV I would still buy Widescreen. I guess I am a purist.
The only assumption I have for Disney's FULLSCREEN choice is so that they can make a sale off BOTH wide and fullscreen. See, if the Disney fans who LOVE widescreen get FULLSCREEN, then Disney probably thinks they'll buy another copy of TI in Widescreen. Kinda stupid, but what a way to make money.

I guess this is where it helps to have a 3 year old niece. Give her the FS copy...and go buy me A spiffy WS copy with a cool bonus.
and poor niece too! your 'imposing' FULLSCREEN into her life @ such a young age! it's okay, she probably won't know the difference!

Yeah, poor kid, but she needs her copy of the movie too, doesn't she?
It's not worth losng 40% of the picture over some lithos that can be bought separately and a kid's toy. The movie, as far as I understand, is a beautiful and breathtaking animated film to watch. What's worse is that it was made in cinemascope which is a really wide image. Every movie should be watched in the way it was meant to be.

I too pre-ordered it from the Disney Store
I was suckered into pre-ordering the Incredibles from the Disney Store because my 5 year old daughter wanted the lithographs SOOO badly. I was assured by the clerk at that time (this was about 6 weeks ago) that I would have the option of selecting widescreen (my preference) or fullscreen versions the day I pick it up. Well, after reading the posts here, I decided to call the store that I pre-ordered it and spoke to the manager. She told me that the store was just informed of that they will only carry fullscreen versions; but at the time when the promotion started, they were led to believe that both versions were available to pre-order. She was very kind and said that I can certainly ask for my money back with no problem whatsoever. She has received a large number of calls regarding this issue.
It's more fun when we're number 1!
Strangely enough, the website now appears to only be selling the Widescreen version. Talk about unnecessary confusion. Hope it doesn't negatively affect sales of this wonderful DVD.
I've already read one horror story about someone trying to pick up a widescreen DVD they preordered from the Disney Store and being met only with fullscreen. So those people may be out of luck, but it just sounds like the whole ordering process was made far more complicated by them offering a fullscreen version and then only selling the fullscreen version for some time.

The general DVD-buying public needs to be educated on the differences between Widescreen, which I prefer, and the Full Screen or Pan & Scan offerings that some theater companies offer.
Through a major petition campaign here in Kansas we have the Best Buy stores test-marketing a segregation of the Full Screen and P&S movies from the Widescreen versions and a specialist in the DVD section to explain the differences.
Hope it works. I was employed at Wal-Mart as an instructor in the Electronics Division and taught the salespeople the difference between the formats and thought that it would make a difference. So far, it hasn't, Wal-Mart insists on pushing the Full Screen formats by putting them up on all the televisions.
I just don't understand, and at my age, probably never will. I just know that I want to see the movie as it was shown in the theater.

Disney Direct
I received my Incredibules from Disney Direct. I had preordered. I was afraid I would have to return it after seeing a forum on here and then rereading the Disney Direct website. By some miracle they did send Widescreen format to me. I am very thankful to Disney for doing so.

I admit I freaked when I heard that the gift set was coming as a Fullscreen. So when I saw the killer price UD showed at Circuit City I bought another copy in Widescreen. I fully intented to pass my Disney Direct copy on to a certain 6 year old who wouldn't care about formats. However, when my copy arrived today much to my chagrin it was Widescreen. So I guess I won't have to wait for the other copy to arrive to enjoy the DVD in the same format I saw it on the big screen at Downtown Disney Orlando last November. Maybe someone at Disney saw the commotion on UD and did the right thing.

They must have come by this forum and read the complaints of Fullscreen!piglet27 wrote: I am very happy with Disney. Some one must have said something.
Glad everyone who ordered got WS and lithos!
I'd probably buy lithos somewhere else instead of paying the $30 for the whole set...but for now, I'm SATISFIED with my wonderful Litho from Best Buy!
