I unfortunately don't know the second Ursula pose.
This is what I'd been referring to:

They are absolutely right. We still have to live with the ramifications of the changes to Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King to this day (couldn't they knock some sense into Don Hahn?!).

However, if they want their films to be experienced the same way as they were in theater, why don't they provide a remaster of Aladdin, Hercules and even Treasure Planet made from a filmout scan instead of the digital files. Aladdin still has a mistake in it that Disney still hasn't bothered to fix:

That's true, although TLM has been changed in small degrees over the years. The little wavy effect that was added to Ursula's cauldron for one release, the "fixing" of the priest's knee in one release, etc.* That said, we're very lucky it doesn't look as bad as B&tB and Cinderella do right now (or TSitS did in the past). Hopefully Cinderella may be about to get returned to its original glory though, fingers crossed! (As an aside, I felt those same feelings about Sailor Moon of wanting to see what you fell in love with and not being able to find it for years. Thankfully I was finally able to collect all the old DVDs used a couple of years ago. Hopefully they'll last a long time and DVD rot doesn't set in... :X )

Separately, I believe the TLM sequels actually received some updates one time, which was so random to me? I didn't think they cared at all how those things looked, it's generally accepted they're poor quality. I wonder if M&C had a part in that? Good for them, if so.

Glad you found the Sailor Moons you wanted!

And yes, they re-drew Ariel in some parts of Return to the Sea.

Ariel's sisters, too.

Speaking of Sailor Moon, I just got the Blu-ray of the first season of the VIZ dub of the original anime the other day. It finally dropped to around $20 a few days back, which I thought was a fair price for it. :D

That is a great price! Congrats! In the future I may buy the Blu-rays, too, and give my DVD-Blu-ray combos to someone else.

Lots of new Little Mermaid merch on the ShopDisney website (just search “Little Mermaid” and sort by “Newest”). Most of it is not to my taste, but there is a super cute series of mystery pins featuring Ariel and her sisters!

Those are all fantastic insights into her character (even if it was kind of weird reading about her being "sexy"). I especially love the note about Ariel being Triton's biggest headache but also the closest to his heart. It always seemed natural to me that part of Triton's grief with Ariel is that he was exactly like her as a kid.

Anyways ... the first of what I anticipate being many posts on this forum. You all seem like a swell bunch, and I look forward to some compelling discussion.

Thanks, for posting, Farerb! It was very interesting to read those notes about Ariel. It's no accident she's such a great character.

And welcome to the forum, PatchofBlue!

Yes, Ariel's animation, particularly in the POYW scene, is very beautiful, just the way the hair, waist, hips, the simplistic tail design, etc. all balance together is very pretty to watch. I liked the written description, too. Ariel was a huge departure from the female characters before her because she was an active character in the plot, the first princess to be almost equally as active in the story as the villainess. Also the part about Triton and Ariel being very similar to one another (I love that Triton is giving red hair in the past in the sequels / TV series, too, it ties them together visually as well separate from the other sisters).

Yes, they describe Ariel as active, not passive at all, to make the first departure from the previous princesss, and good point Divinity about her being about as active as the villain!

I always loved the part in POYW "Betcha on land, they understand and they dont reprimand their daughters". It's such a funny "grass is greener on the other side" moment, showing both her naivety and her own struggles.

Agreed. The animation of Ariel is particularly beautiful in Part of Your World. Alongside with the scene where she`s discovered by Eric on the beach, where she`s expressive and stunning.
