Alice in Wonderland: 60th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray, 2011

Post by Heartless »

According to Blu-news.com, we're getting our first screens of the new Alice in Wonderland Blu-ray, confirmed for a 2011 release date. The link shows the first screens of The Lion King as well!

Here's the article:

Sounds like a very exciting year, indeed! Bambi, Lion King, Alice, and hopefully Dumbo.

YAY! And color me surprised! This is wonderful news! I cannot wait!

Now, Disney, let's release Mary Poppins on Blu and the world will be complete again.

So we get Dumbo, Bambi, Alice in Wonderland, and The Lion King on Blu-ray next year, in addition to both Fantasia's coming out this December (probably next year for other countries)?

What a recovery after a dismal start to this year.

Yay, now I don't have to buy the recent rerelease.

I feel sorry for those who did, though, especially if you already have the previous release.

Wow, I was actually right in my prediction.

Great to see that Disney is laying off of the tragic names they usually give these releases. Also, those stills look amazing.

FRICK YES!

And I was just posting on Blu-ray.com's forums today how I hoped we'd get this. Those caps are gorgeous. I'm perfectly happy with Lowry's restoration from 2004, so if they're merely putting that onto this (it was done in HD to begin with), I'll be happy. Alice doesn't need re-tweaking the way Cinderella (and possibly Peter Pan) do.

Now, Disney, please please PLEASE give us the following:

* Cine-Explore with Kathryn Beaumont and several Disney animators and/or historians showcasing lots of production artwork missing on DVD
* ALL of the song demos from the laserdisc
* Both missing BBC radio broadcasts from the laserdisc
* The storyboard-to-film comparison from the laserdisc
* Extend "Reflections on Alice" by at least 17 minutes
* The missing 1974 re-issue trailer that was on the Gold Classic DVD
* Every feature from the Masterpiece and Un-Anniversary DVD

Do this, and you'll have a perfect release. Please, Disney. Don't screw this one up. Snow White (missing PE features aside), Pinocchio, and Sleeping Beauty (missing SE commentary aside) were outstanding releases. The only genuine effort it takes from you is to create a commentary and gallery presentation for Cine Explore and re-edit "Reflections on Alice." Everything else is a simple matter of transferring already-created materials. You can do this, Disney. I believe in you!

This IS awesome. The new transfer looks amazing, and I guess Alice will have an awesome release like that of Snow White's PE.

It kind of aggravated me to see the Alice in Wonderland Special Un-Anniversary Edition commercial in HD on Disney Channel but being advertised as DVD only. The PQ just looked so great in HD that is was cruel of them to tease us but it looks like they were holding back for the 60th Anniversary (and the other one was just to cash in on the Tim Burton movie).

Awesome! And if Bambi is also being released, then let's just say I am happy I didn't cave and get the Platinum Edition DVD of Bambi or the Un-Anniversary Edition of Alice in Wonderland. :)

Oh, and I look forward to getting Lion King if possible as well. :D

Ooooh, can't wait for Lion King!

My 2003 DVD is showing its age...
Man has a dream
And that's the start
He follows his dream
With mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true
For you and me!

Yeah- I just bought the "Un-Anniversary" last month. I'll feel better if this 60th Anniversary is Blu-Ray specific but be a little p-o'ed if they have a bunch of new bonus features.

Big yawn to The Lion King, but it will be interesting to see how Disney treats Alice on Blu.

Hopefully they'll dig out the original masters of the TV commercials and restore those too.
