Donald Volume 4: "Bee On Guard" is cut short
If youve bought this volume and know you Disney short history, youll notice that in the animated short "Bee on Guard", they cut the cartoon short, 5 seconds short to be exact, y did they do this, I dont know. The short ends quite abruptly with the bees saying "Hip, Hip, Horray" and then the end card shows and music plays quite fast into it, where as in the original, they close up on the bee as he is now in the general's chair and being honored and he winks at the camera, theyre is nothing controversial about the ending, its a normal ending but it puzzles me as to y they would cut it off. You can compare with a video of this on youtube. Have any of you noticed any other cuts on this DVD?
My one and only love, DISNEY.

I haven't opened mine yet, but this is disappointing.
I suspect there will be sound and fury from the internet community, demanding that Disney send replacement discs. After a couple weeks of bitchings and moanings and "BVHE is stupid!", the replacements will come in, and discussion will suddenly cease in favor of how many princesses fit in a phone booth, or how long one should stare at a DVD cover instead of watching the actual DVD.

Yes, im absolutely sure, if you watch it, you will see how abruptly it ends. If you watch the cartoon on youtube you will see how they say "hip, hip, horray!" and the short goes on for another 5 seconds, but it in the dvd, it ends right after they say hip hip horray. Kinda wierd y they would take the effort to cut it out. Escapy, I suggest you watch it as well, youll find out what i mean.
My one and only love, DISNEY.

Okay, I just checked mine. And the cut is there as well. It goes from "hip hip hooray!" straight to "The End".
Uncut Version (what's cut on the Treasures is from 06:50 to 06:56)
The DVD version runs 7 minutes, 8 seconds, but if you remove the 10-second RKO title card, it's only 6 minutes and 58 seconds. The YouTube version is 7 minutes, 3 seconds, and doesn't contain the RKO card.

Its really too bad about the short being cut but if its only 5 seconds im certainly not going to complain. I think thats pretty petty to make such a fuss over such a minor thing considering they have given us all the original Donald Shorts now. Lets give them a break huh? The other times Disney replaced Discs they were for good reason....but this...im sure they wont bother and I dont blame them.Escapay wrote:Let the phone calls begin...

I wouldn't consider it petty to want the complete short. I wouldn't pay for a book that has the last 3 sentences missing, and likewise, a cut short or edited movie is not something I'd want to spend my money on if the uncut version is know about. Plus, even if the last five seconds don't really affect the short's story or narrative, it's five seconds that's missing for no reason. It would be just as bad if they cut off Annette as she's singing the final five seconds of "How Will I Know My Love".a-net-fan wrote:I think thats pretty petty to make such a fuss over such a minor thing considering they have given us all the original Donald Shorts now.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. And if they squeaked long and hard enough simply for the correct title cards on More Silly Symphonies, they're likely going to squeak a helluva lot more for five seconds of content missing.a-net-fan wrote:....but this...im sure they wont bother and I dont blame them.

I THOUGHT that cartoon ended rather abruptly. I've only gotten through disc one so far, but it is a shame to have the cartoon shortened. If Disney does start up a replacement program, I'll definitely jump on board.
And for everybody just saying "it's only five seconds", yeah, it is. But I'm sure everybody that's upset is more disappointed about the cutting in general than of the material lost. These sets pride themselves on being uncut, so to have a short that's presented otherwise is a thorn on an almost-perfect rose. As Albert said, Disney's fixed lesser problems. I see no reason to want what we were promised.

Well it may be only five seconds at the end of a short, but don't forget that More Silly Symphonies contains two versions of Cannibal Capers because one has an extra five seconds (long though lost) reinstated right at the end. So clearly someone somewhere cares about five secondses.
Whilst I'd hope fans don't start baying for people's heads on sticks over this slip-up*, I'd certainly appreciate it if Disney did issue a corrected version. Mind you, I'm still waiting for the set itself to arrive, so replacement discs are a little lower on my list of priorities.
* After all, it's not like it's a Dr Who release or anything...

No, but you don't whant moves that are censored or cuted down from no good reason. Only time I would like to get two versions of moves is for example Lord of the Rings trollogy the Theater version and the expanded version.

Ok here's Something to complain about....
I just received Annette and Donald Duck Tins via amazon this morning via the mail and the Annette Tin didn't have the DVD Walt Disney Treasures Guide Book in It...then I call the customer service line to see about getting a replacement book but apparently they don't have any extras around to send to me...so I am quite disappointed

In the videogame and computer gaming world, when a game killing glitch or programming error appears the company and game developer have to correct this, either by issuing a patch or replacing damaged discs. It doesn't matter how big or small the problem is they have to respond because the customers paid for something that must be as flawless as possible.
While 5 seconds might seem trivial, the idea is that the shorts are uncut. Missing 5 seconds make it look like something was cut due to controversial content, when there's nothing wrong with it.
Can you blame people for being a tad upset, especially if they spent money on it?
