I don't think there are any references to Anastasia. _________________

Yeah, I know it's a bit of a stretch, but one can hope it was put in there deliberately .
Another Disney reference:

LOL!
BATB is nothing more than a poor rip-off of all of these then.

That was about the "Anastasia" pic I posted.
The "Beauty and the Beast" reference is a real one - it's from the Blu-ray promo from "Enchanted" DVD. |

In proving Timon/Pumbaa Fan and Escapay wrong, what the shots have in common is not just the chandelier's, but GiSelle is like Belle, dancing with Robert, dressed in an outfit similar to the Beast, and both couples are in ballrooms, and both shots sweep from close-ups of the ballroom chandeliers to aerial views of the couples ballroom dancing, including both girls being spun by the males. _________________ "In later years, magic wands gave forth what has come to be known as Disney dust." - Disney's Aladdin: The Making of an Animated Film |

I'm not saying the BATB chandelier reference isn't a "legitimate" reference. Just laughing at the "OMG, BATB ripped off of Chandeliers!" comment.
Also, I kinda find it funny that in a movie that's filled with Disney comparisons left and right, when one pops up that's slightly similar to a non-Disney entity (beyond the whole Ogre looking like Shrek), some people say "No, it's not a reference at all."
After all, there is a scene where Prince Edward has a Superman Returns sign behind him. Is that a sly reference to his part in the film, or just a coincidence?

Very good! I didn't notice until you said something, he has a beard like Triton, and it and the crown are made of bubbles (like from water, from the sea). I think they did a cross reference. Kind of like how they had children playing Rapunzel for the upcoming film version, but used square Sleeping Beauty trees. |
Yeah, it can be interpreted 3 ways actually:
Disney References: King Triton and/or Frog Princess
Non Disney Reference: King Harold from Shrek 2 and 3. |

Don't forget, he passed a Hairspray billboard, too!
I always thought the carriage part when Giselle arrives at Prince Edward's castle. I feel like that's the most obvious. The carriage and Cinderella/Robin Hood, and the way she moves reminds me a lot of Cinderella at the ball.
Thanks for posting all the comparisons, everyone! There were a lot that I can't believe I didn't catch like Prince Edward/Nathaniel dancing like Prince Philip/King Hubert and the dresses on the troll's loincloth.
I understand that some of the references could be in any movie, like the hair brushing (I remember seeing somewhere that they compared it to Ariel and her dinglehopper), but it's still fun to see them. The rats in the Queen Narissa's lair remind me of the one from Lady and the Tramp, but then again, there are only so many ways to draw a menacing rat. _________________

The hilarity just never ceases to slow down. Just continue what you're doing, laughing this hard makes me feel so much better.
So I guess Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a spoof of BATB then, as not only is there a chandelier that falls in the dining room that's being invaded by the pirates, a clear mockery of the ballroom scene, but the redheaded girl that slaps Jack is actually NAMED Giselle. Oh what geniuses the people behind Disney are, they even made fun of Belle's modern and feisty attitude by having her SLAP a guy(clearly something that would never have been heard of before the 20th century), oh, clearly the world of motion pictures would be at a lost without BATB, the most historical movie made by man-kind!
Get real. You're stretching any remote sliver of logic to the maximum. It's VERY common for ballrooms to have chandeliers. Hell, any place REMOTELY FANCY has one. Both of my middle-class houses both have chandeliers. You want to tell me that my old house that was built in the 70's was inspired by BATB by installing a chandelier in the house?
If there was a shot that was truly identical to the one with BATB where the camera swoops down from the chandelier to Giselle and I-guess-Robert-is his-name are dancing, you might actually be on something and have evidence worth debating on your side. But having couples dancing under a chandelier is largest stretching of believability imaginable.
You got to to stop worshiping those 90's Disney films to the point of having a disturbingly rabid fandom to the point you believe all traces of life and the entire history of man-kind was influenced by three movies made by one company made in the 20th century. I hate to destroy the image of your idols, but The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin ARE NOT the most original films ever made. Not only were they actually adapted from stories written centuries earlier, but even shots and scenes were directly inspired by OTHER PEOPLE'S FILMS. Ron Clements and Jon Musker for example, both felt so bad about "borrowing" the idol scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark in Aladdin for the scene that Al's retrieving the lamp to the point they apologized to Spielberg when they got the chance to meet him.
You have to also admit Enchanted did absolutely nothing new to film. You can say that you personally thought it was a well-executed film, which I would personally disagree with, and then we could maybe have an actual discussion on, but spoofing Disney has been done for decades now, and considering some of the most creative attempts of the past, Enchanted is absolutely pale in comparison. Heck, if your so caught up on what Enchanted has "borrowed" from other films, how about nearly chick-flick made before 2007, you can't possibly see Enchanted as original when put in that light. Heck, a lot of it is very similar to Elf in which "outside" characters adapt to New York, only real difference being Elf had some thought and originality put in the screenplay. And that's only at the top of my head, there's a WHOLE LOT borrowed from previous works.
But of course, you can just believe sitting on a blanket has never been attempted on any type of medium before Aladdin. |

NOTHING is 100% original today. NOTHING. Tv shows, music, movies, books, NOTHING is brand new and fresh. It may seem that way, but people have to get inspiration from SOMEWHERE.
So frankly, Timon/Pumbaa fan and the Enchanted fans are ALL RIGHT. Enchanted is based on many different stories but still adds its own touch.
Its pointless to even argue it. People's opinions are their own. To spend time typing up why you're opinion is better than someone else's is pathetic and a waste of time for the poster and readers. Agree to disagree and have fun, rather than get pompous about it.
And I think the chandelier thing was more of a sarcastic joke than "This HAS TO BE A REFERENCE!". Least that's how I saw it since I have a sense of humor and don't spend my time on these forums just to keep saying "I am right" in some giant post. |

Now the part with the chandelier, in Enchanted go to 3.01, in Beauty and the Beast go to 1.46ish .
Okay so, in both shots the camera pans down, beginning at the gold chandelier. Both couples are spinning the girl around, and in both cases the girls dress spins out at the bottom and then back in.
Smells like a reference to me .
Can't believe I don't see the hunchback references when narissa falls into the fire (or have I missed them)
Also, if you refuse to see nothing else in enchanted as bringing something to the table (not even the zoom into the logo, art n(I cant spell the rest of the word right, gawd how embarrasing. Mucha inspired world that giselle lives in, beautiful costumes ect) then what about the songs?
They seem worthwhile to me.
(OH NO THEY ARENT, THEY ARE CLEARLY RIP OFFS OF PREVIOUS DISNEY SONGS GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH)

But wait...how would you know for sure if you didn't see "Enchanted"?
Anyway, Timon/Pumbaa Fan, the filmakers deliberately put Disney references into the films, and some of the ones you have said are poor references were ones that Disney said they made purposely themselves.
To fit a whole lot of references in, maybe they have to be on the slight side, but if the filmakers intended to put them in there, or even subconciously, and they remind us of the films we love and that was their purpose anyway...I don't see why you continue trying to rain on our parade.
I am sometimes annoyed at ones that don't seem like real references, but I don't know for sure they aren't, and so I let the other forumers think they possibly found something cool and neat, because for all I know maybe they did, and then of course there's the wonderful feeling of believing. _________________ "In later years, magic wands gave forth what has come to be known as Disney dust." - Disney's Aladdin: The Making of an Animated Film |

yes thats the word XD
Mucha especially influenced the artwork, mucha is the definitive art nouveau artist (and my favorite artist), he did that moet champagne advert.
Theres a painting of dance by him, and that seems to have influenced giselle as well.
The design of narissas crown, edwards sword, giselles coach all have that lovely art nouveau swirlyness |

Okay, after seeing both clips again, maybe it is a reference, but I still stick to my guns on over half of these pics. Even the ones Disney posted are gigantic stretches as I know The Little Mermaid certainly isn't the first film to have girl sing on a boat.
| Disney Duster wrote: |

I did see Enchanted. I didn't see it in theaters, but I did rent it(er...my family did). I obviously didn't care for it as a film to remember every picture of the film.
Overall, all I've been trying to point out this whole time is that most of these pictures have got to have more going than what people have posted to be called "references". You can take two pictures of any two movies and say one is referencing the other because one character is "in the same pose as the other". Most of the ones from Disney I'll accept as "references" but some of the various people's references here, to call them references is as big of a stretch as the "proof" that Nostordamus predicted 9/11.
I also have been trying debating Enchanted's quality as a film, but I guess I'll let the that argument die for this thread. |

Timon/Pumbaa Fan- You keep saying it, so I'll keep saying it.
It's not that just because something happened somewhere else it becomes a reference, it's that Kevin Lima- the director has said that they are. And because he said they are references, it is no longer coincidence- it's official.
Disney Duster- I found her name to be a reference to Belle, too- but also Jasmine for the "Jis" sound in "Giselle". Nice job!
While I'm at it, I figured I might as well point out that the most popular songs of 1989-2000 films all have four words (Part of Your World, Beauty and the Beast, A Whole New World, The Circle of Life, Colors of the Wind, etc.), just like That's How You Know. I think this one was hinted by Alan Menken on the bonus disc. _________________
