When I first saw this thread, I immediately thought this would be another prank by a member. Guess I *might* be wrong.
If this is accurate, then I know I will be purchasing 101 Dalmatians this spring and Pinocchio March 2009. However, I knew already that I won't be buying Sleeping Beauty or Snow White because I'm already satisfied with the current releases. I am honesty happy with the Fantasia Anthology as well, but if the film is complete with Sunflower (I honestly doubt it, since i'm pretty sure Disney started censoring the Pastoral Symphony before Walt's death), then I will buy the new Platinum without hesitation. But other then those definate 2, maybe 3 sets, I won't be buying any more Platinums unless the bonus features are well worth the $15-$20. The only other 2 on that list I might even consider double-dipping on is The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. But that's ONLY if the bonus features are worthwhile.
But I'm definately looking forward to 101 Dalmatians and Pinocchio!

Apparently I'm very slow- I just now realized that the point of this thread is that "Aladdin" isn't planned to be rereleased as a Platinum Edition, and "Alice in Wonderland" will be released as a PE when "Aladdin" would've been rereleased.
I get it now...
I had been wondering as to how AiW could replace "Aladdin" when it had already been released years ago. Silly me. _________________

I think I just had an accident...
Now, I (like everyone else) am taking this with a grain of salt. The Platinums supposedly consist of the top 14 selling Disney films of all time via home video. As much as I hate to admit it, Alice has never been close since it has never ever been out of print. Ever. Everytime a version goes out of print, another immediately replaces it.
I understand Aladdin has been the lowest-selling Platinum to date, though I attribute that more to Disney's marketing than any 9/11-influenced society. Remember that there has been next to no Aladdin merchandise between the 1993 VHS release and the 2004 DVD release. Oh, sure, there's been Jasmine stuff on the market, but even then she was always the "other" princess, so not a lot of people even knew who she was. Because of this, Aladdin sort of faded from the public memory. Disney needed to give the film the same promotion given to Cinderella and Little Mermaid in order to raise public awareness.
I honestly don't think Aladdin has been dropped from the Platinum schedule, but rather, it's probably hanging in mid-air while Disney decides where to place it. If it HAS been removed, then I expect a non-Platimum re-issue of the current set released around the same time as the Alice PE.
So I guess this means with Alice pencilled in for 2011, I won't be seeing it on Blu-Ray till then. I really really (really) hope that when that edition's released, Disney sees fit to create a new documentary and/or commentary for the set. Not just that, but every freaking song demo, still frame, and radio broadcast from the laserdisc better be ported over. If everything from the laserdisc is included on top of a commentary and documentary, Alice has the potential to be the best DVD release of a Disney animated classic ever.
I wonder (pun unintended) why Disney would select this film for the Platinum Collection, though. If they're still sticking by their stance of including the top selling films, I would think that the 15th best-selling title would be something like Pocahontas or Tarzan. Then again, Aladdin has been left in limbo, so it's possible Disney's using a different basis to determine Platinum titles (original DVD sales instead of VHS sales?). Either way, I'll be cautiously optimistic about this news. Thanks, Joe, for posting this.
Oh, and I don't like the Sleeping Beauty cover featured there. The fairies and Phillip are both picturesd twice, Aurora's in pink yet again, and the overall layout doesn't match the other Platinums at all. Then again, international Platinum covers occasionally differ from domestic ones (Bambi, Lady and the Tramp). Hopefully this is a case of that. _________________ Kelvin

| Didn't anyone notice in the schedule the logo for "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning"? It looks official to me, though it's really tiny. |

I don't believe this,Alice In Wonderland replace Aladdin? a Disney Princess movie? this dosn't make any sense.
And why Snow White in 2009 and Beauty And The beast in 2010? this is worng-The Frog And The Princess is in 2009 and Rapunzle in 2010,each Disney Princess movie in a fall (like this fall that we have Enchanted insted of a Princess platinum Edition).
The Sleeping Beauty cover is pretty (well, better then the one we saw) but Ariel's Begining is the same 1999 logo.
Anyway i don't belive this at all (remember that someone said that in 2008 they'll release a Snow White Platinum Edition), _________________

I think you're confusing theatrical releases with DVD releases or something... _________________ "Let's see, what's old Doc Washburn prescibe? Do you have dropsy? The grippe? Scrofula? The vapors? No,i"m not.
Every year a different princess gets attention-
2005-Cinderella.
2006-Ariel.
2007-Giselle.
2009-Tiana.
2010-Rapunzel.
Now,they won't make Snow White PE and release The Frog And The Princess so this whole thing i a lie. _________________

I think the reason Aladdin didn't do well on DVD is because of how well it sold on VHS back in 1993. Video slaes exceeded box office revenue and I think that every family that could possibly want Aladdin got it. Poeple probably didn't want to upgrade to DVD since they felt that kids were happy with the VHS they shared with family memebrs and only the Disney collectors bought it.
As for Alice getting a platinum edition I agree with everything that Disneykid said. And whatever happened to the re-release of the Three Caballeros on DVD? That to should have all the laserdisc stuff on it.
And I actually like the Sleeping Beauty cover art (other than the fact Auroroa is in pink). I would like to see a bigger picture of it. _________________

Well I'm shocked…in a good way. Aladdin has never been one of my favorite films, but it had just come out when I was a child, and I was obsessed with it. I'm sad it has been dropped from the Platinum line. Alice In Wonderland, is a Walt-era title, and a fantastic film. I will be very happy when this film goes Platinum.
I'm also very excited to see the Sleeping Beauty cover art. I love that Maleficent is on the cover in both fairy and Dragon form. Aurora and Phillip also look much better than they did on the SE cover. I can't wait to see a larger version.

Disneykid, I agree with you wholeheartedly on this. Also Jasmine has been slipping in popularity lately, despite her new story in Enchanted Tales. If Enchanted becomes majorly successful (which I have no doubt, it will be) then Giselle will, without a doubt, be added to the official Disney Princess line. This could mean Jasmine getting axed from the line.

Disagree,Jasmine get alot of attention (Disney are allways add her to thing (let's not forget that she's the only Princess that isn't the film's hero (she's like Nala-she's not the hero but she's not a damsle in distress) in Enchanted Journey, and more, she's gets more attention more then even Snow White) and there's no way that Giselle will replace her, she'll be a part of the 8 princesses.
And the 11\9 is worng,Aladdin and Jasmine have no conection to this thing so it's stupit to say that it's becouse of that (Jasmine will try to destory Goerge Bush? ). _________________

Sorry Disney Villain, I hope you don't think I'm being flippent with this post, because its not my intent. But why is Jasmine's popularity slipping. Ask yourself why.
She is independent. She is not afraid to speak her mind. She is strong and in control.
How can her popularity be slipping when Sleeping Beauty's for example isn't. Jasmine has character. Aurora has not. Not at all. Not a sausage of an identity beyond her visual apperance.
The only reason I can see is because Jasmine is Arab. To me, I see hints of racism in the general public's preferences. _________________

Yes, but I was comparing Jasmine to Aurora. Princesses generally are pre 90's a bit weedy, post 90's independent and brave. _________________

Still, compare her to Ariel and they are pretty the same.
Anyway is perfact for the franchise (long and blonde hair, crown,a princess by birth, from Walt's time, live in the best castle etc.) so she gets popluarity.
The classic princesses are from old time so you can't blame them. _________________

I just realized something, and I'm surprised no one's noticed this sooner: we can't take this chart as evidence that Aladdin's been dropped from the Platinum Collection. Look closely at the image. Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King are all scheduled as coming out exactly eight years after their original DVD releases. There's no reason for Aladdin to be released March of 2011. If the pattern continues, Aladdin should be released October of 2012, eight years after its 2004 debut. So it seems to me that this is not a case of a film being removed from the Platinum Collection. Rather, it seems to be more of a case of a film (Alice) being added on to fill the March 2011 spot (since Fantasia will be the last new Platinum in 2010, and the original March Platinums that began with Bambi can't reboot until 2012 to coincide with Aladdin). So I think all this worrying about Aladdin not being deemed good enough to remain in the line is for nothing. The debate instead should be whether Alice is good enough to join the other 14 (which I think you all know my opinion on that matter). _________________ Kelvin

At first I would think so, too, but that cover art image of Sleeping Beauty is brand new and hasn't been seen anywhere else (the temporary art found in a Disney DVD leaflet recently is similar, but different). It's can't even be fan made because the character artwork is all new except for the fairies at the top (which are taken from the 2003 SE). Plus, Joe isn't the type to spread false information and/or play jokes on us. If he says it's legit, then I believe him. _________________ Kelvin

Wow! Kudos to you DisneyKid! I can't believe no one else noticed that either. I'm ashamed of myself for getting caught up in all the hooplah and not paying attention to the facts. You are absolutely right, if Alice in Wonderland does in fact earn a spot in the Platinum Edition line in Spring of 2011, that has nothing to do with Aladdin being re-released. All of the Platinum Edition re-releases are being schedule for the fall. The last Fall Platinum to appear on the chart is The Lion King in 2011. There is not reason to believe that Aladdin wouldn't get a Platinum Edition re-release in 2012. _________________

the 'trustworothy' chart also shows no mention of all the aladdin films going out of print in january 08 even thugh that has been final. also the cinderella 2 artwork has been finalised so that cover art should eb in the same column and same with the 101 dalmatians cover art int he march 2008 column. if this was truely from disney, then aladdin would have definetly been in the 'disappearing' column, cindy 2 artwork would be updated and same with 101 dalmatians. just a thought

The two films drastically differ from all the other films and, personally, I don't think they would sit well with the others. Adding Giselle would be like putting Jessica Rabbit in the line (if she were a princess) considering Enchanted basically pokes fun at the films rather than creating its own story. And Rapunzel is 3D, so that pretty much knocks her out (unless they go the hideous 3D-to-2D approach and re-draw her for the line, which will end up confusing people). Tiana, from The Princess and the Frog, is really the only guarantee (because she adds some much-needed variety and a wider market) regardless of how successful the film is.
As for adding Alice, at this rate everything'll end up Platinum. _________________
