Yes. This is it. Vent out all the bitter feelings you have towards a particular "singing sensation" in your country of residence over here.

Rules: This thread is strictly limited to the discussion of loathed singers. No actors, comedians, grandmas and other celebrities to be included.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So. Lately I have seriosuly started to dislike a certain guy called "Tristan B". He is a local singer, and has incredibly broken into the international music scene. You must understand that Malta is a small country, with limited opportunities. The problem is that there is a lot of musical talent, but few people are lucky enough to be heard of outside our shores.

Tristan B has, however, struck gold. He has signed a contract with an Italian music label and has performed in many places worldwide, including Europe and the US. Quite remarkable for a Maltese guy.

The problem?

Tristan B is a talentless asshole.

He claims to be a professional singer, but on hearing him, he doesn't sound to me more than an amateurish wannabe, who thinks he knows how to sing. He has no feel. He is not artistic. You need not have any musical knowledge or be an expert to realize that the guy is a fraud. He has been apparently pushed into the limelight by other people. It brings tears to the eyes to hear him singing in his childish, immature voice - lacking skill and physical and emotional depth - and seeing him enjoying such a successful career - singing on the side of notable international stars.

Of course, the people who are really talented don't get so lucky. Maltese singers like Nadine Axisa or Karen Polidano, who are haunting to listen to, will likely remain restrained to the local music scene. Even other Maltese singers like Fabrizio Faniello, Ira Losco and Chiara, who did make an impact overseas, don't seem to have been as lucky as this Tristan B. Previously unknown ... suddenly an international star. From zero to masquerading hero.

Check out his site. You can hear a couple of songs while it loads and see how bad he really is:

http://www.tristanb.com/

So ... what are your thoughts?

It definitly needs improvement. And he needs to know that. He's okay at playing the violin and the lyrics are pretty good but that voice is....You Raiaiaiaiaiaiase me uuuuuuup *SCREECH*!

I heard a different song than PeterPanfan I think.....either way it was bad....just bad. He sounded like he was doing Karaoke or something, almost sounded more like a speaking voice, than a singing voice if that makes sense. I agree with Julian, there wasn't any emotion in his voice from what I heard.

Oddly enough, one of my best friends in Florida* was named Tristan B, though I don't think your Maltese counterpart had "B" stand for "Bassingthwaighte".

I've purposely avoided this "Tristan B"'s site, mainly to preserve my ear drums.

Scaps

*Florida's since turned to Hawaii as he left the slave labor of the Mouse House for choice ocean waves and island sun

Oh my. He sounds a bit like Hugh Grant in Music and Lyrics...

...and no, that is not a compliment.
(though the soundtrack is amazing)

As for a popular "artist" that I can't stand, I would have to say Barry Manilow. Sure, he's got some talent, but I don't see why he's considered such a legend. Not only that, but the guy seems completely arrogant. Just watching him perform makes me gag! He just stands there in the same exact spot for the entire performance! Not to mention the "I'm the bees-knees" look he always has on his face. I'm definitely not a Fanilow.

Same as above ... and I'm glad you agree.

Hmm ... I don't mind Barry Manilow. However, I'll admit I haven't heard him much, and I have only heard him and never seen him. However, I liked his Copacabana and some of his music in Don Bluth's Thumbelina (does he sing any of the songs in that film? ... it's just been so long).

Most anything on the local rap/hip-hop station recently. 95% of it is vapid garbage.

Actually 95% of popular music today is a bunch of vapid shit that sells to teenage girls who watch MTV as their main source of "music" discovery.

Bring back the 70s!

I'm very fond of the 70s and 80s myself even though I wasn't born in those decades (well ... 1989, but I only spent nine months of that year in a living state).

Then again, I always seemed to have a liking for retro stuff.

I love her 1 song, "Chains." Incredible!

I hate Justin Timberlake - but it has nothing to do with the way he sings. I'm not fond of the fact that he can't just pick 1 skin color he would rather pretend to act like and stick to it. I don't like peoples' pointless obsession with him. I hate his face in his music videos- you see way too much of it. His use of his face in his music is not used to help tell stories, it's to sell posters and merchandise. He can't act but he wants to do movies. And people are collaborating with him left and right on their music like it's a necessity when he's still just a flavor of the month...stretched out absolutely to the breaking point. But as long as they can get more kids to love him, there's another 100 brand new families just introduced to his Product Line (anything they sell with his damn tired face on it!)... It's endless, sad, stupid, and annoying. And because his voice sounds as RnB as Michael Jackson's in the '70s, he's sort of being given the new title of "King of Pop." One was enough and he really exhausted that title. If you guys want another one - count me out. I will have no part of this worthless consumerism.

The infinitely sexier Mark Wahlberg expects people to take him seriously as a legitimate actor and Justin wants a second-generation teen-idol career rerun. Go figure; it's a world gone mad! But, I'm sure everyone will love him like a national treasure in 10 years from now... if the world doesn't explode from the overload of junked Justin Timberlake memorabilia first!

Oh definitely, I can't stand him either. I don't like him for the majority of the reasons you posted, but one thing about him that really erks me to the core is his undying cockyness(which seems to be the current trend of some hip hop and pop artist). I just wanna yell at him and say "Calm down! You won't be cool forever!" Because it's one thing to know or accept the fact that your sexy or you have money and star power, but to go out and celebrate it in songs and in your life is just ridiculous to me.

Yeah, he might think he was Elvis Presley if he weren't a blond and looked more like a man than a grownup boy. But as far as I can tell, he's playing the cocky thing very subtly. He has a very amicable demeanor. I think you'd have to meet him in person to see his dark side. He's just got a lot of energy, sort of acting too young for his age in some ways, which makes his adult endeavors (his "sexy" videos) very awkward. He's having a major multiple-personality identity crisis. Except that he seems to have it all, so that would make most people jealous. I just honestly despise the way he's posing as an artist when he's merely a glorified pin-up boy.

oh man, even then he'd be miles away from Elvis. But yeah he needs to just to find out who he is and stop this glorification of himself, because he doesn't need extra personalities lol. But honestly for myself, I don't think he brought sexy back at all..he just brought annoying back.

Hmmm...well, I'm rather dissapointed. I was reading what Julian was saying, immature, childish, and I thought I would like something different than the "mature depth" that everyone wants so much. But I listened to him and...it's like he could be slightly tone deaf. Like, he might not be able to even sing the right notes at the right times with the music. It can be cute, but then you realize he's not getting any better with the chorus and it's just sad. So, I agree with you Julian, he should get better or not be singing with professionals. I wonder if they feel dishonored to be singing with him, like they're less talented just because they're on shows with him. What I can't believe is that he listens to recordings of himself and is still singing, unless he likes how he sounds, maybe he is better than all of us because he hears the good we don't, or he has a truly unique taste.

Now, if you want to hear an immature, child-like voice that actually sounds beautiful, that would be Christina Ricci singing "This Little Light of Mine" in Black Snake Moan.

He's the one who should be dishonoured! If I were him I'd be terribly embarrassed to show myself on stage. Lately, he's been hanging out with a couple of Italian singers called Ron and Evana Spagna. Why don't they dump him!?

Or maybe he knows he sucks ass but doesn't give a rip because he's getting paid millions to sing his wretched songs.

Well, in the part where she sings, a man who helped her get back on her feet after a terrible brawl with a friend of hers gets out his guitar and asks her to sing something. So she sings that. She's not really "a singer" but she sounded really good! It was part of her character, too, to be innocent and child-like, I think.

Oh, or that. But seriously, I couldn't live with myself if I didn't like I how I sounded but...OH! What if he thinks he sounds bad, but everyone tells him he sounds good, and THAT'S why he's still recording?!
