Bake them cookies Lucille!

Great movie. I love it. I picked up my copy today. Although the DVD release could've been better by being a 2 disc.

Got it for $10.49 at Best Buy from the "$5 off when you but another Disney DVD" promotion (Yay, "Hercules"!).

I really really like this movie, I have to say. I'm kind of partial to movies that involve an extended bizarre family, so that might be part of it, but just from the story to the characters to Danny Elfman's excellent score, it was all great. And it was also really nice to see Disney casting voices mainly based on sound and character rather than getting a celebrity's voice in there somewhere. Overall, a great and very underrated movie.

I watched this today. I always liked it, but the feature has grown on me considerably since the two times I saw it in theaters. It was really cool the second time around in 3-D, but I didn't miss that effect at all, which speaks to the strength of the film. I also wasn't as bothered by the insanely busy middle third; it could have been better, yeah, but it plays much better once you become accustomed to its quirks and pace. And the opening and conclusion have lost none of their power for me. This is a fun movie and I'm really glad I have it. I too appriciate the fact that it doesn't have pop culture refrences (though I'm sure it will seem dated when we get to 2037 and the future doesn't look like it is depicted here.) But yeah, it's going to play well even then, so props to them for that.

Of course the DVD is basically flawless in terms of quality, but the extras leave me wanting. The deleted scenes are the best part, and I agree with the descision to cut most of them. However, the Bowler Hat Guy version of Mike waking himself up was interesting -- I wonder why they decided to axe that in favor of Lewis doing it. Anderson says he misses it in the film but doesn't really explain why it was dropped. Either way, the question mark in his checklist book in the final cut is a really effective way of ending that character, even if it isn't as showy as most of his moments. I do kind of wish we got to see what he did with himself though, since we did get the Little Wonders montage showing Lewis working up to the future.

As I mentioned when it was announced as such, I do feel really cheated knowing there are more deleted scenes out there that I'm not allowed to see. Including something on the Blu that can't be on the DVD is to be encouraged, but when it's something so normal like deleted footage, then yeah, I feel cheated. Not cheated enough to not buy it, obviously, but it does disappoint me. Could anybody who has the Blu-ray describe the other deleted scenes and why they were cut for the rest of us? Thanks.

The making-of featurette was a nice inclusion, but I do find it glossy. When it was announced that they were devoloping an animated feature based on it, I did read A Day With Wilbur Robinson, and what I want to know is how you go from the paper-thin, modern-day-set plot of the picture book into this movie's story, which in addition to being much more extensive is also much more complex with the issue of time travel. Perhaps the commentary track will address this; perhaps not. I haven't listened to it yet as I didn't want to sit there long enough to watch the film again with commentary after going through the other bonuses of intrest to me.

I do find it odd, though, that Meet the Robinsons gets a commentary track whilst neither Cars nor Ratatouille, both of which were much bigger films, have to go without one. I am not complaining about Robinsons having gotten that, but if we've got to settle for single-disc Pixar DVDs, at least give us that, please? We know Lassater and Bird do commentaries, and they've been terrific in the past. Anyway, that's a rant for the Ratatouille thread.

All in all, I am quite pleased with this disc, even if it's less than we know it could and should have been. It's #8 on Amazon's bestseller list last I checked, and I'm hoping that points to it having a good long shelf life. Even though it is at times a little messy, the movie is so original and charming that it hurts me it didn't do better in theaters. $135 million for Chicken Little, which looked so bland and derivative that I didn't even see it, while Robinsons demonstrates creeativity and can't even pass $100. Pity.

I didn't get a chance to watch this movie until I just bought it the other day.

I have to say - what a completely unexpected surprise. The trailers never made it out to be the way it turned out when I watched it with my boyfriend. I was also shocked, because at the end, when Lewis gets adopted, he burst out crying, I had no idea he was holding back!

What a sweet touching story it turned out to be, and I was quite impressed overall with the story. It seemed a bit shortened, in that I personally didn't feel like I got the time to get to know and care about the many characters, but watching it back, and watching the behind the scenes, I realize how much more attached to them I am than I thought.

But personally, the little message at the end, quoting Walt Disney, I think is what really got me emotional, and what resonated most inside me.

I skipped this one in the theaters. Mostly because of money. I can't afford every movie, so I had my daughter choose when it came out whether it was this and I dunno what else. I think Evan Almighty and Ratoutille (she chose Rat) I don't truly regret that. I wouldn't have minded seeing it in 3-D, but I'll live. My daughter got the DVD for her birthday so we watched it for the first time today. After being disappointed with Chicken Little, I reluctantly watched it today with her.

I do need to rewatch it, mostly because company was over, distractions happened, just normal B.S. of my home. But what I saw of it, I did like. The Tom Selleck thing was pretty funny. Among a few other parts. The twist was very nice, predictable, but still, nice.

The overall style was nice. The facial expressions were great. The detail was very nice as well. Just something stupid I noticed, but the seat in the time machine/flying car, the texture on it reminded me of some retro chairs at a house I use to babysit at. Its totally useless, but still nice to see they take the time for tiny little details like that. Like I said, pointless, but kinda neat, lol.

I can't say I think it's the best Disney movie in recent years, but its better then Chicken Little and Home on the Range.

Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

The Blu Ray version is absolutely incredible. Everything just has a more 3D look to it in High def, though I do have the standard DVD version also and for a DVD, the video quality is outstanding as well.

I bought it a few days ago but haven't got the time to watch it yet. I hope I will have some time soon because I watched it once (on an airplane! ;)) and I liked it so much.

I loved Lewis!

Well, I finally went to Blockbuster and rented "Meet the Robinson's". I just sat down and watched it and I have mixed reviews. A lot of people told me that the movie gets weird in the middle - and it does! Even though I'm not too cracked up about Disney using CGI animation, I have to admit it does look pretty great. I thought the story was pretty good, like I said, it does get really weird in the middle - though it all gets explained and makes sense. I don't know, I guess I can't help but to think "they just don't make `em like they used to anymore".

Though the movie was decent, I can't picture myself sitting down and watching this film over and over again and loving it like I would "Cinderella" or even "The Lion King". I'm trying to figure out why that is though. Are these filler movies - like "The Sword in the Stone" or "Robin Hood"? Don't get me wrong, I love those movies, but they don't shine as bright as "The Jungle Book" or "Sleeping Beauty". Is Disney just in a slump right now - do they have the potential to create timeless classics again? It seemed as though they went through a dry period through the 80's, some would even say the 70's too. And then in 1989 came a little movie called "The Little Mermaid" which revived the world of Disney animation, and was followed by many other wonderful and successful films. Are we just waiting for the next wonderful and successful film that will spark another golden age of Disney animation? I guess that is how I see it. Movies like "Meet the Robinson" are just fillers until we get to the next great thing, which I'm hoping will be "The Princess and the Frog".

It's getting better for Disney, which is a really good thing since IMO they haven't had a good film since' Brother Bear' until now. 'Meet the Robinsons' is definitely a step in the right direction, and although it isn't perfect it is a really good film. Disney went through a slump in the 80's in that they had films that were good, but not great until 'Mermaid' came along. That's how I see 'Robinsons'. A step in the right direction that until now i couldn't see Disney managing to do, which will eventually lead to the next classic.

Next up is 'Enchanted' and then 'Bolt', which I've got high hopes for. And then of course we have 'Frog', which I am predicting will reignite the Disney spark. Watch this space.

I watched this on BLU last night. What a strange film. I really don't know what to make of it. The opening and ending were superb. The animation was superb – I would class it above all Pixar animation bar Monsters, Inc (note: I have not seen Cars or Ratatouille at this time). But... but…

What the hell was going on in the middle?

It's strange that it appears the middle segment is the only segment taken from the book the film was based on. I can't really see why Disney would chose to option such a book in the first place. I know studios often have to rework books or stories dramatically when films are made (look at Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast or even Dreamworks' Shrek) but I'm not sure what they saw in the original book here. The "Disney" bits at the start and the end (especially the end – from the Helping Hat's future onwards to the very, very end) were top notch, I would say. The middle just – well, frankly – it annoyed me. It would have been so much better with the crazyness toned down – even with the same characters. For me only the Frog and Dinosaur slaves really worked in the middle 30-40 minutes. That's a low hit rate, considering how many ideas there were… forced? Yes, forced onto us in that small period.

Also to nit-pick the Time-Travel aspects, like Bowler Hat Guy's plans, weren't really thought through.

Well, I can't describe which ones are missing, because the disc doesn't label which are on the DVD and which are BD only (Unlike Chicken Little BD which proudly proclaims "Additional Deleted Scenes" or similar). But all in all, you're not missing much. No deleted subplots. No real deleted character defining moments. I must admit I didn't watch all the deleted scenes (only those with titles that seemed appealing to me - it was late and I had to be up at 5:15am next morning) but... meh.

The presence of such additional deleted scenes is no major plus point for the Blu-ray at all. And the Bowler Hat game is crap too. Worse than mediocre Flash animation games. I don't know why Disney insists on putting these substandard BDJava games on their discs because they're not going to attract the attention of anybody, no matter what their age, if they're played on a PS3 which has access to games so much better (and let's face it, the bulk of Blu-ray discs will be played on PS3s at this moment in time). I'd rather they just, you know, put the THEATRICAL TRAILERS on, or similar.

Guess it's not enough to have the film itself in the best home video presentation out there, huh Netty?

Well, I was pointing out - besides the HD format (which I assume he is aware of) - Jake's not really missing anything "unknown" if he choses the DVD.

Also if it is Disney's plan to encourage people to migrate to BD by holding back extras, its not worked on MTR. Even Chicken Little BD had more!

However, I expect it will work on Cars and Ratatouille which have much more in-depth (and one assumes informational) BD exclusive supplements.

Out of the 3 computer animated movies Disney has done so far, this is my favourite. The story came close to having the same feel as a Pixar movie.
