Disney Villains and the Seven Deadly Sins
Happy Halloween everyone! To celebrate that, I created this post. Have a look!
POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS:
A List of Disney's Most Wanted Villains
A great actor once said that it was always more fun to play the bad guy. After all, what better character than the villain to really be able to let loose, if not to chew the scenery, than to at least burn it down?
The villains in Disney films have always had an almost cult following, a special fondness in the hearts of movie fans, even if they were threatening to skin a puppy, devour our hero or even destroy a city. Villain merchandise is everywhere in the theme parks, where they are the "stars" of the popular "Fantasmic!" show. Famed animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston even devoted a whole book to the subject.
So why all this fascination with the dark side of Disney magic? Perhaps we are unable to fully care for the protagonist without a suitably hissable antagonist, a carry-over from other forms of entertainment, from literature to drama to mainstream motion pictures. After all, what would David be without his Goliath, or Sherlock Holmes without his Professor Moriarty, or Bugs Bunny without his Elmer Fudd, or Luke Skywalker without his Darth Vader? Or perhaps we see in these villains sides of ourselves that we keep hidden, letting these outrageous characters do what we would never dream of, a vicarious trip into the shadows of our own souls. Or maybe it’s just what that great actor felt: they are more fun.
But whatever the fascination with heavies, from Lady Macbeth, Hannibal Lecter and Goldfinger to the Wicked Witch of the West, the Joker and Bill the Butcher, the bad guy (and gal) has always been big, bigger than life, that is, and the Disney villains are no exception.
So in celebration of All Hallow's Eve, I'd liked now to "honor" these thieves, fiends and evil monarchs, and compare them to the Seven Deadly Sins they so readily embrace... and we so eagerly relish. This is Part One. We'll begin with the least deadly sins and work our way up the ladder to the most deadly sin of all.
LUST
Lust? In a Disney film? Sure, when the bad boy (or girl) wants want he (or she) can't have (i.e., the good girl (or boy)).
MORTIMER MOUSE
Film: "Mickey's Rival" (1936)
DVD: Classic Cartoon Favorites: Best Pals Mickey and Minnie
In all their many years of courtship, Mickey has only had one rival for the affections of his Minnie, and that was Mortimer Mouse. Smug, egotistical and just plain obnoxious, Mortimer is the exact opposite of our main mouse, and his cowardly nature is revealed when Minnie is endangered. Mickey, of course, comes to the rescue.
Occupation(s): Lover boy
Crimes Committed: None, technically, but still...
Quote: "Well, if it ain't my old sweetie, Minnie Mouse!"
Final Verdict: He leaves Minnie to fend for herself against a charging bull, but would eventually show up again years later on the "Mickey Mouse Works" and "House of Mouse" series.
DONALD'S DOUBLE
Film: "Donald's Double Trouble" (1946)
DVD: Classic Cartoon Favorites: Best Pals Donald and Daisy
After yet another one of their arguments between them, Daisy doesn't ever want to see Donald again, leaving Donald devastated. So our main duck hires a debonair look-alike lothario to try and win her back for him. Unfortunately, it all backfires when the duck's doppelganger falls in love with Daisy for real and takes her on a date to the amusement park. Naturally, Donald is not happy...
Occupation(s): Lothario
Crimes Committed: Again, none, technically, but still...
Quote: (to Daisy) "Darling, we'll paint the town vermilion."
Final Verdict: Both Donalds retreat from the park to escape the humiliated Daisy's wrath.
VICKY ROBINSON
Film: "The Parent Trap" (1961)
Actor: Joanna Barnes
DVD: Available
What's a glamorous socialite-slash-gold-digger to do? She's hooked a handsome and (more importantly) rich ranch owner, but just as she's reeling him in to the altar, not one but two bratty daughters are on the scene to keelhaul this loathsome deal. Then, to make matters worse, the ex-wife shows up, and she's not quite the spinster hubby-to-be made her out to be. And now what, camping???
Occupation(s): Lover girl
Partner(s) In Crime: Her mother, a very different kind of Mrs. Robinson
Crimes Committed: Terrorism, abuse
Quote: "First change I make in that household, off she goes to a boarding school in Switzerland."
Final Verdict: Doused with honey and licked by baby bears, Miss Vicky angrily calls off the engagement and storms off in a huff.
BARNABY
Film: "Babes In Toyland" (1961)
Actor: Ray Bolger
DVD: Available
The leering would-be lothario Barnaby wants Mary Contrary all for himself. There's just one problem: she is to marry Tom Piper, a problem easy enough to resolve: he dispatches his dim-witted lackeys to dispose of the boy. Naturally, the plan fails, and Barnaby must face off with a shrunken Tom and an army of toy soldiers in Toyland.
Occupation(s): Lothario
Partner(s) In Crime: Gonzorgo and Roderigo.
Crimes Committed: Kidnapping, attempted murder, trespassing, assault and battery
Gotta Sing-Sing: "Castle In Spain"
Quote: (trying to woo Mary through aforementioned song) "You'll eat nothing but cake, you'll drink naught but champagne, you'll be in on the take in our castle in Spain."
Final Verdict: Barnaby is shrunk, too, and is defeated by Tom in a swordfight.
GASTON
Film: "Beauty and the Beast" (1991)
Voice Actor: Richard White
Supervising Animator: Andreas Deja
DVD: Available
He's the golden boy of his provincial town, an ace hunter whom all the girls go ga-ga for and, oh yes, every last inch of him is covered with hair. So why can't Gaston nab the beautiful Belle for his bride? Must be all that reading she does. No matter, with an ego the size of his pecs, he is certain he'll win her over... if it's the last thing he does.
Occupation(s): Pub proprietor; town bully; hunter
Partner(s) In Crime: Lefou, Monsieur d'Arque, local yokels
Crimes Committed: Attempted murder, kidnapping, breaking and entering, wrongful imprisonment, assault and battery, arson, inciting a riot, trespassing
Gotta Sing-Sing: "Gaston"
Quote: "Were you in love with her, Beast? Did you honestly think she would love you when she could have someone like me?"
Final Verdict: While battling it out over Belle atop the Beast's castle, Gaston loses his footing and FALLS TO HIS DOOM.
CLAUDE FROLLO
Film: "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1996)
Voice Actor: Tony Jay
Supervising Animator: Kathy Zielinski
DVD: Available
The poster boy for "Disney lust", Frollo has his beady eyes set on the voluptuous Esmeralda, a "burning desire" that haunts his very soul. He finally finds a use for his abused "foster son" Quasimodo, manipulating him into finding the gypsy for him, so he can burn her at the stake. What better way to show a girl you love her?
Occupation(s): Judge
Partner(s) In Crime: Phoebus (for a while), an army of soldiers
Crimes Committed: Attempted genocide, manslaughter, attempted murder, attempted infanticide, abuse of power, kidnapping, wrongful imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon
Gotta Sing-Sing: "Hellfire"
Quote: "The gypsies live outside the normal order. Their heathen ways inflame the people's lowest instincts. And they must be stopped."
Final Verdict: Notre Dame itself seemingly comes to life to squelch his evil, sending Frollo to FALL TO HIS DOOM.
---
GLUTTONY
Whether it's for supremacy or, more likely, just for a taste of the protagonist, these antagonists are starving to death. Blood thirsty? You have no idea.
THE BIG BAD WOLF
Film: "The Three Little Pigs" (1933)
Voice Actor: Billy Bletcher
DVD: Walt Disney's Timeless Tales, Volume 1
Given the hit song about him, you'd think ol' Big Bad would get more respect, or at least a few pork rinds. All that huffin' and puffin' and blowin' down of one’s house must take a lot out of a wolf, not to mention those not-so-clever disguises (an innocent sheep, a Fuller Brush man) that take some talent to pull off as well. And what dedication: he comes back for more in three follow-up shorts.
Occupation(s): Predator
Partner(s) In Crime: His three little sons (in subsequent shorts)
Crimes Committed: None, wolves have every right to stalk prey
Quote: "By the hair on your chinny-chin-chin, I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in!"
Final Verdict: Slides down the chimney of the Practical Pig’s house, right into a pot of boiling oil, sending him howling into the distance. But he would keep coming back again and again to try and get a taste of the pigs...
THE WOLF
Film: "Peter and the Wolf" segment, "Make Mine Music" (1946)
DVD: Available
Certainly one of the most ferocious creatures in Disney lore, this wolf is also the only villain on this list to share title billing with the hero of their story. He's a hungry one, too; he wants to gobble up all of Peter's friends. But hey, that's only natural for this carnivorous predator.
Occupation(s): Predator
Crimes Committed: None, again, wolves have every right to stalk prey
Final Verdict: Young Peter is the local hero when he captures the beast by lashing him to a tree.
BRER FOX and BRER BEAR
Film: "Song of the South" (1946)
Voice Actors: James Baskett and Nicodemus Stewart
DVD: Not available... still
The Abbott and Costello of the wonderland of Uncle Remus, these two fumbling fools are actually their own worst enemies. In their persistent pursuit of the scrawny Brer Rabbit (who would hardly make much of a meal for either of them, let alone both), they are time and again tripping each other up, putting their collective foot in the tar, as it were.
Occupation(s): Predators
Crimes Committed: Attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, terrorism, assault with a deadly weapon
Quote: Brer Fox: "I got him! I got him this time!"
Brer Bear: "I'm gonna knock his head clean off!"
Final Verdict: Bamboozled by Brer Rabbit's "Laughing Place" gag, they get on the wrong side of a hive full of bees.
MASTER CONTROL PROGRAM
Film: "Tron" (1982)
Voice Actor: David Warner
DVD: Available
The corrupt Master Control Program is planning on ruling the world, one computer at a time (talk about your computer viruses). Its user Ed Dillinger has stolen Kevin Flynn's video game creations and rewrote them as his own. Now Flynn and some of his pals are out to put a stop to this... even if it means getting sucked into the computer realm to play games for dear life to do so. But the MCP and its partner Sark aren't about to let some User sabotage their plans...
Occupation(s): Computer program
Partner(s) In Crime: Ed Dillinger, Sark
Crimes Committed: Abuse, murder, attempted murder, theft, kidnapping, terrorism
Quote: "No one User wrote me. I'm worth a couple million of their man-years."
Final Verdict: During the final showdown between Tron and Sark (who now has the MCP's powers), Flynn leaps into the tower of light that is Master Control and distracts it, long enough for Tron to hurl his identity disc into the one break in the tower's barrier and destroys it (and Sark with it).
BIG BOY CAPRICE
Film: "Dick Tracy" (1990)
Actor: Al Pacino
DVD: Available
The Godfather of Four Color crime, "Big Boy" didn't earn his nickname from his big pronouncements, but from metaphorically devouring his opponents, as in a mobster massacre to rival St. Valentine's. He's back in business and on top of the world, ma, "leetle friend" ablazin'. But, mother of mercy, could Dick Tracy spell the end of Big Boy?
Occupation(s): Crimelord
Partner(s) In Crime: Mumbles, Flattop, Shoulders, Pruneface and many others
Gotta Sing-Sing: "More" (which he warbles while trying to teach Breathless Mahoney and her chorines the number)
Crimes Committed: Kidnapping, terrorism, attempted murder, theft, fraud, assault and battery
Quote: (to the other gangsters) "You get behind me, we all profit; you challenge me, we all go down! There was one Napoleon, one Washington, one ME!"
Final Verdict: In the final showdown with that pesky do-gooder Tracy, Big Boy FALLS TO HIS DOOM.
That is part one, watch for part two soon. What did you think of this, guys? Let's discuss!

Here is part two of the sins...
GREED
To paraphrase Gordon Gekko, "greed is good", especially for these would-be treasure hunters, who seek their fortunes in gold and jewels and even... dead animals?
LONG JOHN SILVER
Films: "Treasure Island" (1950)/"Treasure Planet" (2002)
Actor/Voice Actor: Robert Newton/Brian Murray
Supervising Animator: Glen Keane
DVDs: Both available separately
In both Disney versions of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic swashbuckling tale, the character of Silver is a contradiction: on one hand, he's leading a mutinous plot to take over the ship; on the other, he becomes a father figure of sorts for young Jim Hawkins. But is their relationship just a ruse for Silver to get closer to the treasure map? Or will his true feelings for the boy overcome his true nature?
Occupation(s): Cook
Partner(s) In Crime: His fellow mutineers
Crimes Committed: Mutiny, piracy, kidnapping, arson, theft, breaking and entering
Quote: (from Treasure Island) "Fortune sits on the shoulder of him what schemes."
(from Treasure Planet) "That treasure is owed to me, by t'under!"
Final Verdict: With the help of Jim, Silver manages to escape in a lifeboat.
EDGAR
Film: "The Aristocats" (1970)
Voice Actor: Roddy Maude-Roxby
Animator: Frank Thomas
DVD: Available
This butler seems to get along just fine with Madame Adelaide Bomfamille's family of cats... until he learns that when she passes on, the cats will receive her inheritance before he does. Naturally, this butler vows revenge by relocating the cats to the countryside. When they finally reach home, he again stops them and boxes them into a trunk bound for Timbuktu. Will Scat Cat and his gang of alley cats be able to halt the butler's selfish party for good?
Occupation(s): Butler
Crimes Committed: Catnapping, grand theft, trespassing
Gotta Sing-Sing: A new version of "Rock-a-Bye Baby"
Quote: "I'll be gone! No! Oh no, THEY'LL be gone. I'll think of a way."
Final Verdict: One swift kick in the seat of his pants, courtesy of Frou-Frou the horse, is all it takes to send this ornery butler into the very trunk intended for Madame Bomfamille's cats and leave that trunk to be taken to Timbuktu.
PRINCE JOHN
Film: "Robin Hood" (1973)
Voice Actor: Peter Ustinov
Animator: Ollie Johnston
DVD: Available
While the king's away, the prince will play... and the people of Nottingham will have to pay. "P.J." wallows in gold-encrusted decadence while his minions tax the poor right out of their homes. Their only hope: that pesky Robin Hood and his Merry Men of Sherwood Forest, who threaten to put an end to John's selfish little party once and for all.
Occupation(s): Would-be monarch
Partner(s) In Crime: Sir Hiss, the Sheriff of Nottingham
Crimes Committed: Treason, abuse of power
Quote: "This crown gives me a feeling of power! POWER! Forgive me a cruel chuckle, heh-heh-heh, power..."
Final Verdict: The treasonous mama's boy and his pals are sentenced to hard labor in a penal rock quarry.
MADAME MEDUSA
Film: "The Rescuers" (1977)
Voice Actor: Geraldine Page
Animator: Milt Kahl
DVD: Available
She may not have that "snaky" haircut or that cool "turn you to stone" stare like her mythological namesake, but this Medusa can still strike fear, especially if you're an orphan. This skid row boutique owner wants to move uptown, and her eye is on the Devil's Eye diamond to do it for her. Too bad she's afraid of mice.
Occupation(s): Pawnshop proprietor
Partner(s) In Crime: Mr. Snoops, pet alligators Brutus and Nero
Crimes Committed: Kidnapping, theft, endangering the welfare of a child, assault with a deadly weapon
Quote: (to Penny) "You get down there and find the big diamond or you will NEVER SEE THAT TEDDY AGAIN!!"
Final Verdict: Last seen sinking into the Louisiana bayou with her alligators, having apparently turned against her, snapping at her heels.
DOC TERMINUS
Film: "Pete's Dragon" (1977)
Actor: Jim Dale
DVD: Available
The last thing that quack medicine man Doc Terminus expected to find in the little town of Passamaquoddy (besides a tongue twister) is a real live fire-breathing dragon. He practically salivates at the potential windfall the magical beast could bring him and his phony remedies. But first he has to actually capture Pete's dragon...
Occupation(s): Medicine man
Partner(s) In Crime: Hoagy, the Gogan Family
Crimes Committed: Fraud, kidnapping, attempted murder
Gotta Sing-Sing: "Every Little Piece"
Quote: (responding to Pete's statement that Elliot goes to those who need him) "I need him!"
Final Verdict: The not-so-good doctor is literally blown out of town, courtesy of Elliot.
PERCIVAL C. MCLEACH
Film: "The Rescuers Down Under" (1990)
Voice Actor: George C. Scott
Supervising Animator: Duncan Marjoribanks
DVD: Available
Poacher by trade, McLeach specializes in rare exotic animals, and Marahute, the giant golden eagle, is certainly the rarest and most exotic creature he's ever hunted. He just didn't bargain on the pluck of a young outback boy and a couple of mice (!) determined to protect the winged wonder and her precious nest of eggs.
Occupation(s): Hunter
Partner(s) In Crime: Joanna the goanna
Crimes Commited: Poaching, kidnapping, attempted murder, cruelty to animals
Gotta Sing-Sing: A rather warped version of "Home On the Range"
Quote: (while lowering Cody to the crocodiles) "Now, THIS is my idea of fun!"
Final Verdict: Crikey! When McLeach FALLS TO HIS DOOM into a crocodile-infested river, he's croc chow, mate!
GOVERNOR RATCLIFFE
Film: "Pocahontas" (1995)
Voice Actor: David Ogden Stiers
Supervising Animator: Duncan Marjoribanks
DVD: Available
Avarice is practically his middle name; all he wants is to find his own "gold of Cortez" just so he can prove himself in King James' court, and if slaughtering savages and pillaging their land is what has to be done, then he's willing to give it a go. Of course, he leaves all the heavy lifting to his underlings, all because of one crick in his spine.
Occupation(s): Colonial governor
Partner(s) In Crime: Wiggins and Percy (in an interdependent kind of way)
Crimes Committed: Attempted genocide, inciting a riot, abuse of power, assault and battery
Gotta Sing-Sing: "Mine Mine Mine"
Quote: "I'm very well aware that this is my last chance for glory. But mark my words, Wiggins: when King James sees the gold these peasants unearth, success will be mine at last."
Final Verdict: Having accidentally shot Captain John Smith, he is put in chains and shipped back to England in disgrace.

GOVERNOR RATCLIFFE
Film: "Pocahontas" (1995)
Voice Actor: David Ogden Stiers
Supervising Animator: Duncan Marjoribanks
DVD: Available
Avarice is practically his middle name; all he wants is to find his own "gold of Cortez" just so he can prove himself in King James' court, and if slaughtering savages and pillaging their land is what has to be done, then he's willing to give it a go. Here's part three of the villains and their sins...

Overwhelming anger and/or hate, usually for another race or species, intensify their nefarious schemes and shenanigans.
WILLIE THE GIANT
Film: "Mickey and the Beanstalk" segment, "Fun and Fancy Free" (1947)
Voice Actor: Billy Gilbert
DVD: Available
Willie was a simple giant. All he wanted was some companionship in his lonely castle in the sky. But to then have his home invaded by three little Jacks, who steal his food and the Harp? Fi indeed.
Occupation(s): Homeowner
Crimes Committed: Theft, attempted murder, wrongful imprisonment
Gotta Sing-Sing: "Fe Fi Fo Fum"
Quote: "Now for the magic wordies. (Singing) Fe, fi, fo, fum. He, hi, ho, hum. I am a most amazing guy, a most amazing guy am I..."
Final Verdict: While angrily chasing Mickey and company down the beanstalk, Willie FALLS TO HIS DOOM... although he must have survived the fall because there have been subsequent sightings of him in Hollywood.
THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN
Film: "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" segment, "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" (1949)
DVD: Available
Okay, all you conspiracy theorists out there, try this one on for size: is Brom Bones the Headless Horseman? Think about it: he had the motive (with that spineless Ichabod Crane out of the way, the buxom Katrina von Tassel would be all his) and the opportunity; why else fill the suspicious schoolmaster's head with ghostly tales on that dark and stormy autumn night?
Occupation(s): Horse rider
Partner(s) In Crime: His black stallion, who bears a striking resemblance to Brom's horse, Gunpowder
Crimes Committed: Murder, terrorism
Gotta Sing-Sing: "The Headless Horseman"
Quote: "Ah-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaah!"
Final Verdict: With Ichabod gone, Brom marries Katrina. As for the Headless Horseman, well, legend has it he still haunts Sleepy Hollow, always on the prowl for a "head to chop".
CAPTAIN HOOK
Film: "Peter Pan" (1953)
Voice Actor: Hans Conried
Animator: Frank Thomas
DVD: New Platinum DVD coming on March 6, 2007
Humiliated by that blasted boy Peter Pan time and again, Hook writhes with unbridled fury at the mere mention of his name. And for good reason; it was Pan who lopped off one of Hook's hands and fed it to that accursed Crocodile, who enjoyed that little appetizer so much he keeps prowling the area for a second helping. The elegant captain wants nothing more then than to exact revenge on that Pixie Dusted punk once and for all.
Occupation(s): Ship's captain
Partner(s) In Crime: Mr. Smee and the rest of the pirates

Gotta Sing-Sing: "The Elegant Captain Hook"

Quote: "Now, I'm going to close my eyes and count to ten. It makes the chase more interesting... for me."

JUDGE DOOM
Film: "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (1988)
Actor: Christopher Lloyd
DVD: Available
There's something a bit... off about His Honor the Judge. His walk is a little stiff, his color scheme is monochromatic, his voice is a monotone and... hey, did his eyes just fall out? Could a deep seated hatred for his own kind be behind all of his diabolical schemes to wipe out that kind, such as the dreaded Dip and all that crazy talk about a freeway... humph, imagine a freeway in Los Angeles...
Occupation(s): Judge
Partner(s) In Crime: The Weasels (a.k.a. The Toon Patrol).
Crimes Committed: Murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, terrorism, attempted genocide, wrongful imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon

SID PHILLIPS

Every toy's worst nightmare: a kid with an overactive imagination, too much time on his hands, a magnifying glass and seemingly easy access to a lot of explosives. Occupation(s): Neighbor
Partner(s) In Crime: His pet pit-bull, Skud
Crimes Committed: Abuse, terrorism, attempted murder
Quote: (reading label on rocket) "'Extremely dangerous. Keep out of reach of children.' Cool!"

Forget Attila, this fellow is one honey of a Hun. Occupation(s): Warlord

Occupation(s): Homeowner

Film: "Toy Story" (1995)
Voice Actor: Erik von Detten
DVD: New Special Edition now available
Every toy's worst nightmare: a kid with an overactive imagination, too much time on his hands, a magnifying glass and seemingly easy access to a lot of explosives. Occupation(s): Neighbor
Partner(s) In Crime: His pet pit-bull, Skud
Crimes Committed: Abuse, terrorism, attempted murder
Quote: (reading label on rocket) "'Extremely dangerous. Keep out of reach of children.' Cool!"
Final Verdict: Spooked by Woody and the mutant toys, Sid appears to be easily on his way to years of therapy for an irrational fear of plastic playthings.
SHAN YU
Film: "Mulan" (1998)
Voice Actor: Miguel Ferrer
Supervising Animator: Pres Romanillos
DVD: Available
Forget Attila, this fellow is one honey of a Hun. A monstrous figure in act and deed, Shan Yu leads a bloodthirsty band to invade China in response to the challenge he infers from the construction of the Great Wall. Devilish in appearance and devious of mind, nothing but total genocide of the offending country will please him.
Occupation(s): Warlord
Partner(s) In Crime: His army of Huns
Crimes Committed: Mass murder, war crimes, kidnapping, assault and battery
Quote: "Your walls and armies have fallen. And now it's your turn."

A lot of Disney baddies are green in the face with it. Jealousy of those who have the power (usually regal), these no-goods will give it everything they've got to get some of their own.

URSULA
Film: "The Little Mermaid" (1989)
Voice Actor: Pat Carroll
Supervising Animator: Ruben Aquino

Occupation(s): Former courtier; now sea witch for hire
Partner(s) In Crime: Flotsam and Jetsam
Crimes Committed: Treason, fraud, theft, attempted murder

JAFAR
Film: "Aladdin" (1992)
Voice Actor: Jonathan Freeman
Supervising Animator: Andreas Deja

Being the Grand Vizier just isn't enough for Jafar; he wants to rule Agrabah himself as well, and knows that a legendary magic lamp will do the trick, if he can find it. Enlisting the aid of a raggedy street rat, how was he to know that Aladdin would be his ultimate downfall… or would it be his own lust for power?
Occupation(s): Vizier
Partner(s) In Crime: Iago
Crimes Committed: Attempted murder, kidnapping, treason, assault and battery, theft
Gotta Sing-Sing: A sarcastic reprise of "Prince Ali"
Quote: "How many times do I have to kill you, boy?"
Final Verdict: Jafar is tricked by Aladdin into having the Genie turn him into a genie himself, whereupon he's promptly confined to his own magic lamp and then drop-kicked into the desert.
SCAR
Film: The Lion King (1994)
Voice Actor: Jeremy Irons
Supervising Animator: Andreas Deja

Never mind that "little hairball" Simba, it is Scar who really just can't wait to be king. When all is said and done, he has murdered his own brother, aligned himself with the scavenging hyenas and sent the Pride Lands into ruin. But when Simba returns from the "dead", his loving uncle sure has a lot of explaining to do...
Occupation(s): Predator
Partner(s) In Crime: Hyenas Shenzi, Banzai and Ed
Crimes Committed: Fratricide, regicide, attempted murder, inciting a riot, assault and battery
Gotta Sing-Sing: "Be Prepared"

STINKY PETE
Film: "Toy Story 2" (1999)

Occupation(s): Prospector

Well, that's possible, I suppose. However, I think he also fits the realm of Envy, because you have to remember, he was jealous of his brother, he wanted to rule the land himself. Basically, it's a case of sibling rivalry.I liked your posts, Disney villains are my favorites. However, I think that Scar should have been named under the sin of Greed. Don't you?
Ok, I agree with that.Big Disney Fan wrote: Well, that's possible, I suppose. However, I think he also fits the realm of Envy, because you have to remember, he was jealous of his brother, he wanted to rule the land himself. Basically, it's a case of sibling rivalry.

And now for the exciting conclusion of the look at the Disney Villains and the Seven Deadly Sins. Introducing the deadliest sin of all...
VANITY
Foolish pride and the vane quest for perfection can easily escalate to megalomania. Do you have an itch to conquer the world? If so, then apply here.
THE QUEEN/THE WITCH
Film: "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937)
Voice Actor: Lucille La Verne
Animators: Art Babbitt (Queen) and Norman Ferguson (Witch)
DVD: Available
She doesn't have a name, but if she did, it would fittingly complete the phrase "Vanity, thy name is..." Obsessed with her own beauty (and threatened by Snow White's), she destroys it via a dark spell that transforms her into a haggard crone with a special gift for the fair maiden in the form of a luscious red apple.
Occupation(s): Monarch; stepmother
Partner(s) In Crime: The Slave in the Magic Mirror, the Huntsman.
Crimes Committed: Attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder
Quote: Queen: "Magic Mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?"
Witch: "Now make a wish and take a bite..."
Final Verdict: Chased by the dwarfs to the top of a high peak, lightning strikes and the Witch FALLS TO HER DOOM.
LADY TREMAINE AND HER FAMILY
Film: "Cinderella" (1950)
Voice Actors: Eleanor Audley (Lady Tremaine;) Lucille Bliss (Anastasia); Rhoda Williams (Drizella); June Foray (Lucifer)
Animators: Frank Thomas (Lady Tremaine), Ollie Johnston (the Stepsisters) and Ward Kimball (Lucifer)
DVD: Now available
Lady Tremaine, the mother of all stepmothers, coddles and spoils her two homely daughters Anastasia and Drizella (not to mention that brat of a cat Lucifer) at the expense of stepdaughter Cinderella, who she has brow-beaten into submission as their scullery maid. What more proof could there be of her inherent wickedness?
Occupation(s): Lady; stepfamily
Crimes Committed: Abuse, assault, wrongful imprisonment, destruction of royal property
Quote: Lady Tremaine, regarding Cinderella: "Oh. Pay no attention to her."
Drizella: (scoffing at the thought of Cinderella attending the ball): "Hah! Her, dancing with the Prince!"
Anastasia: "I'd be honored, Your Highness. Would you mind holding my broom?" (both sisters laugh sadistically).
Final Verdict: Although Lucifer apparently FALLS TO HIS DOOM out the tower window, the fate of the Tremaine trio is left unsaid in the film. That may have been for the best, though, because in the original story, they had their eyes pecked out by angry birds.
THE QUEEN OF HEARTS
Film: "Alice In Wonderland" (1951)
Voice Actor: Verna Felton
Animator: Frank Thomas
DVD: Available
This loudmouth is practically bursting with rage, and pity any underling who crosses her. It is ironic that she's the queen of hearts, since she doesn't seem to posses much of one of her own; witness the revelry in her eyes when she whacks at that poor hedgehog in the crazy croquet game or has some unfortunate decapitated for the most miniscule of offenses.
Occupation(s): Monarch; tyrant
Partner(s) In Crime: The King of Hearts, a whole deck of card soldiers.
Crimes Committed: None, absolute monarchs can do as they please
Quote: "Off with their heads!"
Final Verdict: She, along with all of Wonderland it seems, chases that foolish girl Alice out of their dreamlike realm.
CAPTAIN NEMO
Film: "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" (1954)
Actor: James Mason
DVD: Available
The infamous captain of the Nautilus yearns to crate his own undersea utopia, and he's not above a little terrorism to make his plans succeed. All that time underwater has driven Nemo a little mad... mad at the world, that is. He plans to unleash his discoveries (such as a little thing called atomic power) upon all of mankind, his idea of payment for all of its injustices.
Occupation(s): Submarine's captain
Partner(s) In Crime: The crew of the Nautilus.
Crimes Committed: Terrorism, abuse, kidnapping, murder, attempted murder, assault and battery
Quote: "What you fail to understand is the power of hate. It can fill the heart as surely as love can."
Final Verdict: Wounded, Nemo blows up his island fortress of Vulcania and orders the Nautilus to the ocean floor one last time.
MALEFICENT
Film: "Sleeping Beauty" (1959)
Voice Actor: Eleanor Audley
Animator: Marc Davis
DVD: Available
Just think; it all could have been avoided if she had just been invited to that ceremony. But the devilishly delightful Maleficent is too proud to let this royal snub go by without due recourse, which she provides courtesy of a cursed spinning wheel. And if that doesn't work, then she can always turn herself into a dragon...
Occupation(s): Sorceress
Partner(s) In Crime: Diablo, a mess of hideous goons
Crimes Committed: Attempted murder, breaking and entering, kidnapping, trespassing
Quote: "Now shall you deal with me, o Prince... and all the powers of HELL!!"
Final Verdict: Prince Phillip, who can't do much of anything without those three meddling fairies, flings his enchanted sword into the breast of Maleficent-as-a-dragon. All that remains of the grand sorceress is a black stain on the ground.
CRUELLA DE VIL
Films: "101 Dalmatians" (1961)/"101 Dalmatians" (1996)
Voice Actor/Actor: Betty Lou Gerson/Glenn Close
Animator: Marc Davis
DVDs: Both available separately
Proving that wicked drama queens never go out of style, the shock-haired, chain-smoking, fur-loving fashion diva Cruella de Vil continues to delight and outrage, even though her shenanigans are far from P.C.; she does just want to kill a bunch of cute little doggies after all. In both her animated and live-action incarnations, Miss de Vil is the height of selfish elaboration, but we love her for it anyway.
Occupation(s): Rich society gal
Partner(s) In Crime: Horace and Jasper Badun
Crimes Committed: Dognapping, attempted murder, cruelty to animals, reckless driving
Gotta Sing-Sing: "Cruella de Vil"
Quote: "I don't care how you kill the little beasts, but do it and do it now!"
Final Verdict: In hot pursuit of the dalmatians, Cruella accidentally gets her roadster slammed into by her henchman's old van and is left adrift, howling, in a snow bank.
MAD MADAM MIM
Film: "The Sword In the Stone" (1963)
Actor: Martha Wentworth
DVD: Available
The wacky witch claims she is the most powerful magic maker in the land, and all she has to do is defeat that goody-two-shoes Merlin to prove it. So a "wizard's duel" is proposed, with the Mad Madame herself providing the rules... all the better to break them. Alas, that tricky sorcerer goes and uses his head, inflicting upon Mim his own brand of "germ warfare".
Occupation(s): Witch
Crimes Committed: Attempted murder
Gotta Sing-Sing: "The Magnificent, Marvelous, Mad Madam Mim."
Quote: "Sounds like someone's sick. How lovely."
Final Verdict: Infected with Merlin's disease, Mim is left bedridden, sicker than a dog, helpless against sunshine.
PETER THORNDYKE
Film: "The Love Bug" (1969)
Actor: David Tomlinson
DVD: Available
At first, this smarmy proprietor of a car dealership in San Francisco wants absolutely nothing to do with a Volkswagen Beetle that seems to have a mind all its own. But when he discovers Jim Douglas driving it in a race, he becomes more and more intent in owning it, by trying to beat Douglas in many an auto race, even trying to cheat in the races (sometimes succeeding in doing so). Thorndyke's plans are forever trapped in high gear, but he'd better beware of Douglas and his VW Beetle pal.
Occupation(s): Car dealer; racecar driver
Partner(s) In Crime: Carol Bennett (for a while), Havershaw, the staff of Thorndyke's dealership
Crimes Committed: Theft, abuse
Quote: (to Douglas, bad-talking Herbie about racing) "It's too bad this thing doesn't have the gumption to get up to the starting line tomorrow morning. I should've enjoyed beating it."
Final Verdict: After losing the big race to Douglas and Herbie, Thorndyke is now a humiliated mechanic in his own dealership, which he evidently no longer owns.
DR. HANS REINHARDT
Film: "The Black Hole" (1979)
Actor: Maximilian Schell
DVD: Available
Like Captain Nemo before him, Reinhardt is on a mad mission, one that has taken him to the end of the universe. Blinded by his insanity, he foolishly charters the spaceship Cygnus into the destructive black hole, hoping to find his own paradise on the other side.
Occupation(s): Spaceship's captain
Partner(s) In Crime: Maximilian, a crew of drones
Crimes Committed: Kidnapping, terrorism, attempted murder
Quote: "The word 'impossible', Mr. Booth, is only found in the dictionary of fools."
Final Verdict: Uh, good question. The ending of this movie is about as puzzlingly murky as the titular space phenomenon.
TRIP MURPHY
Film: "Herbie: Fully Loaded" (2005)
Actor: Matt Dillon
DVD: Now available
The newest bad boy on the block, Trip Murphy is a hotshot racecar driver with his own thriving multi-media company: endorsements, personal appearances, even his own video game. So he certainly isn't going to be shown up by a girl driving a Volkswagen. Oozing his own brand of smarmy charm, and like Peter Thorndyke before him some 35 years earlier, Trip has an ego forever stuck in high gear, but he better watch out for the redhead in the vintage bug.
Occupation(s): Racecar driver
Partner(s) In Crime: His brother, Larry, and lackey Crash
Crimes Committed: Theft, attempted murder
Quote: "I'm gonna exterminate this bug."
Final Verdict: When he is defeated in the big race by Maggie and Herbie, Trip loses it and is carted off to the funny farm.

EMBODIMENTS OF ALL EVIL
These characters represent more then just a single sin, but embody (in whole or in tandem) aspects of the ultimate evil, the devil himself.
PETE
Film: "Steamboat Willie" (1928)
DVD: Vintage Mickey
Pete has the distinction of not only being the "oldest" villain on this list (he actually predates Mickey Mouse by at least three years), but also the most diverse: beginning with Julius in the Alice Comedies, he was the constant foil for not only Mickey (beginning with "Steamboat Willie", where as the steamboat captain he basically makes the mouse do all the work) but also Donald, Goofy, Pluto and even Chip 'n' Dale over the years. Although starting out with sloth, he added on more sins to his repertoire over the years, especially wrath (constantly menacing Mickey and company) and lust (always trying to kidnap someone for his own sake), hence, this joint entry, which was made to explain villains who represent more than one sin, since Pete now has too many sins to narrow down to just one.
Final Verdict: Pete eventually settled down for the "Goof Troop" series and the movie variations thereof, but was back in fine felonious form in "Mickey MouseWorks" and beyond.
THE MANY VILLAINS OF "PINOCCHIO"
Film: "Pinocchio" (1940)
Voice Actors: Walter Catlett (J. Worthington Foulfellow); Mel Blanc (Gideon); Charles Judels (Stromboli) and (The Coachman); Frankie Darro (Lampwick)
DVD: New Platinum DVD to come out 2008
For a cute little wooden puppet, Pinocchio sure has a lot of enemies (like Pete, too numerous, in fact, to narrow down to just one, thus, again, this joint entry). Like Pete, these heavies all run the gamut of sins, from greed (the foxy J. Worthington Foulfellow, alias "Honest John", and his feline stooge Gideon) and lust (for fame, that is, with the vicious puppet master Stromboli) to wrath (the fierce Coachman), sloth (the lazy Lampwick) and gluttony (the briny behemoth Monstro).
Occupation(s): Con artists for hire (Foulfellow and Gideon); puppet master (Stromboli); coach driver (The Coachman); bum (Lampwick); predator (Monstro)
Crimes Committed: Accessory to kidnapping; fraud; wrongful imprisonment; attempted murder
Gotta Sing-Sing: Foulfellow's "Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee"
Quotes: Foulfellow: "Then you haven't heard of the easy road to success."
Gideon: "Hiccup!"
Stromboli: "And when you are growing too old, you will make good FIREWOOD!"
The Coachman: "Give a bad boy enough rope and he'll soon make a jackass of himself."
Lampwick: (About Jiminy Cricket) "Hey, who's the beetle?"
Monstro: "Rooooooooooooar!"
Final Verdict: All apparently go on to commit more crimes and atrocities, save for Lampwick, who gets his comeuppance by being turned into a donkey.
CHERNOBOG
Film: "Fantasia" (1940)
Animator: Bill Tytla
DVD: Available
Pure evil personified, Chernobog reigns over Bald Mountain when night has fallen, coaxing the spirits of the dead out of their graves to bask in his unholy visage. Eyes aglow and bat-like wings blotting out the sky, this demon lords over his spectral and skeletal followers in their raucous celebration of the macabre.
Occupation(s): Monarch
Final Verdict: Church bells chime as dawn breaks, sending Chernobog withering back to his eternal resting place.
MAN
Film: "Bambi" (1942)
DVD: Available
Has there ever been a more insidious specter of evil in the world of a film then that of "man in the forest", as seen in "Bambi"? Although never seen, their presence is constantly felt, their violence forever imminent. Never has a single cinematic death as that of Bambi's mother, at the hand of man, ever been so traumatic or so immediate.
Occupation(s): Hunter
Partner(s) In Crime: A pack of vicious hunting dogs
Crimes Committed: Murder, attempted murder, terrorism
Final Verdict: A destructive blaze, caused by a carelessly unattended campfire, destroys the forest, indicating the destructive nature of mankind will never cease.
THE HORNED KING
Film: "The Black Cauldron" (1985)
Voice Actor: John Hurt
Supervising Animator: Phil Nibbelink
DVD: Available
With a skull-like mask for a face, topped by two mangled horns, plus cloven feet and a spiked tail, it is not difficult to liken the Horned King to the image of the devil of centuries-old lore. (Throw in that hacking cough and he's even more akin to a certain Lord of the Sith we're all familiar with). His mission is a simple one: use the Black Cauldron to raise his own army of the undead and overrun all of Prydain.
Occupation(s): Monarch
Partner(s) In Crime: Creeper, a bunch of brutish warriors, the aforementioned army of the dead.
Crimes Committed: Grave desecration, kidnapping, theft
Quote: "Now I call on my army of the dead: the Cauldron Born! Arise, my messengers of death! Our time has arrived!"
Final Verdict: After Gurgi makes the ultimate sacrifice to stop the zombie horde, the ol' Hornster is sucked into the cauldron itself and destroyed, PG-rating style.
OOGIE BOOGIE
Film: "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993)
Voice Actor: Ken Page
DVD: Available
The classic childhood fear of the Bogeyman is envisioned here in the form of Oogie Boogie, a form that is a stitched-together bag of creepies and crawlies guaranteed to give you the willies. The big Oog likes to gamble with his prisoners' lives, and thanks to his trio of trick-or-treatin' disciples, his latest victim is none other then "Santy Claws" himself.
Occupation(s): Gambler
Partner(s) In Crime: Lock, Shock and Barrel.
Crimes Committed: Kidnapping, attempted murder
Gotta Sing-Sing: "Oogie Boogie's Song"
Quote: "Are you a gambling man, Santy?"
Final Verdict: Ooogie's evil is literally unraveled by Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloweentown.
HADES
Film: "Hercules" (1997)
Voice Actor: James Woods
Supervising Animator: Nik Ranieri
DVD: Available
This big blue hothead has it in for his older brother Zeus and plots to take over Mount Olympus with a little help from his friends. A clash of the Titans ensues, but, as the Fates predicted, if that wonder boy Hercules crashed the party (and he does), it would be all over. Hades strikes back at Herc's Achilles' heel, Megara, the hero's ladylove and Hades' former femme fatale.
Occupation(s): Lord of the Dead
Partner(s) In Crime: Megara, Pain and Panic, the Titans.
Crimes Committed: Treason, attempted murder, kidnapping
Quote: "Name's Hades, Lord of the Dead. Hi, how ya doin'?"
Final Verdict: After rescuing Meg from the sea of lost souls, Hercules tosses in the Lord of the Dead, who are more then happy to welcome their despised despot.
So, guys, what did you think of these sins and their correlations with Disney villains? I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did! Again, let's discuss! Thanks!
P.S., if you noticed any ones that I missed, let me know. Thanks a million!

Partner(s) In Crime: Lock, Shock and Barrel.
Crimes Committed: Kidnapping, attempted murder
Gotta Sing-Sing: "Oogie Boogie's Song"
Quote: "Are you a gambling man, Santy?"
Final Verdict: Ooogie's evil is literally unraveled by Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloweentown.
HADES
Film: "Hercules" (1997)
Voice Actor: James Woods
Supervising Animator: Nik Ranieri

I actually did not originally think of this on my own; it actually came from an article on LaughingPlace.com: click here to view it. It actually came out a year ago and I thought I would place them here. But if that's plagiarism, I'm sorry, I didn't know. Please don't be mad at me.

Even though I can see a lot of work has been put into this list, I'm not quite sure it's that easy to classify each villain under just one sin. Who's to say Maleficent isn't jalous? Medusa not vain? And no matter what, I think ALL villains could be described as somewhat easy-tempered; angry
I personally think most villains can be described by all 7, or a few less. But perhaps that's just me
I personally think most villains can be described by all 7, or a few less. But perhaps that's just me

the miserable, the lonely and depressed. Pathetic?
