I wonder if the Cars release will have a WideScreen/FullScreen (yucky) DVD, like the CE of Finding Nemo, or 2 seperate DVDs, like The Incredibles? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm..........................
I'm hoping they do separate releases. Actually, for a new release like Cars, I'm pretty sure separate releases will be the way to go. Putting both versions on one disc ala Monsters, Inc. doesn't let the film breathe, and with a film as long as Cars, two versions can really harm the picture. Either way, I'm just glad Disney's abandoned the Finding Nemo-style of 2-disc sets where we essentially get a packed disc with the widescreen film and some good bonus material, and a coaster that just happens to have the fullscreen film and kiddie features on it.
With the release window for Disney DVDs being an average of about 4 to 4.5 months, hopefully Disney will release this on my birthday (October 24th) which just happens to fall on a Tuesday this year. It'll kinda suck if nothing interesting is released on my birthday, and the only possibility now at the moment besides Cars is The Fox and the Hound, a major irony considering that's one of my least favorite Disney films. _________________ Kelvin

Why bother having a full screen version at all? I wonder if those returned "The Incredibles" DVDs skewed to a specific aspect ratio.
Surely we're getting to the point now that people accept widescreen? More and more TV shows and music videos are being made W-I-D-E.

Like others have said, I expect Cars/Dead Man's Chest to follow the release slot model of Nemo/Curse of the Black Pearl to a T. However, I tend to expect that we'll see seperate widescreen and full screen DVDs of Cars instead of a Nemo-like model.
For some reason, I think the fact that the movie's aspect ratio is 2.35:1 clinches it as seperate releases such as was with Incredibles (yes, Bug's Life was also 2.35 and had both on one disc, but that was a much shorter film.) The larger size of the "black bars" on this than Toy Story means there will be people wanting a fullscreen option and less willing to put up with the bars. Whereas the people who want the 2.35 will be even less tolerant of a reformatted version because it crops so much. Plus, the seperate releases model worked for Incredibles, so if it ain't broke, why fix it? _________________ My modest collection of little silver movie discss

They should go for a classic cover. Just enlarge the soundtrack cover and just paste it to the dvd case! And the metallic look of the car will make it shiny already like most of the previous Pixar dvds. _________________
But wow, this proves people are idiots. Probably the same ones who complain Loony Tunes made a "violent society" or the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction was un-PC.

They're also opportunistic (using a much-seen movie as a springboard to get attention) and don't really know what they're talking about with regards to a change being made. The Cars DVD is probably already mostly compiled and Pixar isn't going to cut up a scene to appease some lame organization anyway. Kelly Donley gets the Bonehead of the Week award! And Lanny F. Wilson, you get the Overdramatic Viewer of the Week award. And the headline calls these people critics, which they are clearly not, by suggesting that a cocky racecar like Lightning would stop to observe safety laws.
These people need to get a life and quit messing with successful movies. It is a cartoon folks, and not real life. We, as adults, are responsible for training our children and teaching them right from wrong, we don't need a government group telling us how to raise our kids.
It's like those people who tried to raise a fuss over "The Lion King" saying each time the lion cubs were wrestling they would end up in sexual position. Apparently they don't know that animals do it differently than people. And those who said that the dust clouds when the cubs were wrestling spelled the word "S E X"........c'mon people, let's get a life and leave our cartoons and animated movies alone.

No there is, cutting a scene from Cars for a stupid reason.

They clearly fail to notice that at that stage in the movie he is a cocky character who doesn't pay attention to anything in the world around him. I think if he were to come to that situation again at the end of the film it would be different, but that's not the point. Besides, this is a world inhabited entirely by cars, so how does that encourage kids to try and beat a train? It's not like it was a kid.
Furthermore, Clark Kent also runs alongsde a train in Superman The Movie. Oh, no, we'd better go snip that too because kids will get the idea that they have super speed and outrun trains! Geez, I keep forgetting about the various versions they put out! I just bought Bambi, Dumbo Big Top, L&T-I, L&T-II, (and not too long ago, Narnia, Chicken Little) and I am so preoccupied with slipcovers (!) that I forget to check on what version I'm buying! Great point! someone should write these bozos at: the Association of American Railroads, the CEO of Norfolk Southern and the International Association of Chiefs of Police and ask them what position they are planning to take on the Superman film?

It has only just opened but the makers of Cars are already gearing up for the DVD.
In a story from Home Media Retailing, the creators of this highly anticipated Pixar film have begun work on a five minute short for the DVD titled "Ghost Light." Larry the Cable Guy will be starring in the film voicing the character of Mater the tow truck, the character he voices in the feature.
According to Larry the Cable Guy, "They wanted to show Mater's heart and how he was toward other people. So it's kind of like the same kind of thing, but it's a whole other story."
Darla Anderson, who produced Cars, said that other extras for the DVD might be "animation bloopers" as well as home movies created by the filmmakers.
Even though I really enjoyed the end credits to "Cars", I've missed the animation bloopers and would love to see these on the DVD. And, of course, you can't go wrong with more Mater. _________________ I Love Myself!

I really hope Disney doesn't follow through with those idiots' letter. Maybe John has enough power at Disney to stop it. But I think if it did go through, Pixar might do something special for the release of the dvd to make up for it. No? _________________
Putting this thread back on the subject of when we'll see Cars arrive on DVD. I was looking at the calendar, and the window between The Incredibles' release on DVD and it was just a little less than 19 weeks (obvious a little less since Tuesday comes before Friday), which would put my predicted date of October 17 right on spot, taking exactly the same amount of time to release. Also if you look at October, it's starting to fill up and October 17 is the only date that's empty for October and I'm pretty sure the date will be in October. So here's my predicted dates: Cars on October 17 in both DVD and Blu-Ray forms followed by Pirates of the Caribbean on November 14. I don't think they'll be following the Nemo/ Pirates 1 pattern because it's been three years since then and the window has rapidly decreased in those years.
Hopefully I won't find out that I got the fullscreen versions.
It is easy to tell. Just put the disc in your player and put a picture on the screen with no adjustments, and if you have a funny looking picture then you got a Foolscreen (Pan & Scan). It is just that simple.
