DISNEY PRESENTS THE ENCHANTING MUSICAL
ONCE UPON A MATTRESS
Starring Emmy® Award Winners Carol Burnett and Tracey Ullman

BURBANK, Calif., August 12, 2005 – Celebrate the holiday season when Disney presents ONCE UPON
A MATTRESS, based on the acclaimed Broadway musical, on DVD December 20. This lively re-telling
of the fairy tale ‘The Princess And The Pea’ gets a modern twist with a high-powered cast led by

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS is the hilarious musical story of romance in a fantasy kingdom. Queen
Aggravain (Carol Burnett) jealously protects her son Prince Dauntless (Denis O’Hare, “21 Grams”) from
marrying any eligible princess, and will not allow anyone else in the kingdom to wed until her son does.
When Sir Harry (Broadway star Matthew Morrison) and Lady Larken (Zooey Deschanel, “The
Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy”) learn that they are to become parents, wed or not, Sir Harry takes
matters into his own hands and goes into the swamp to search for a bride for the prince. There he
discovers Princess Winnifred (Tracey Ullman). The Queen is horrified and schemes to get rid of
Princess “Fred,” but aided by Sir Harry and the Jester (Michael Boatman, TV’S “Spin City”), Winnifred
stakes her place in the kingdom. Tom Smothers (of the famous “Smothers Brothers” comedy duo) and
Edwin Hibbert (“The Lion King 1 ½”) also star. Available for $19.99 (SRP) on DVD from Walt Disney
Home Entertainment and Touchstone Television.
The DVD is packed with fun bonus features including: “The Making of Once Upon A Mattress;” hilarious

I'd never heard of this until I saw the news item on UD the other day, but it sounds very interesting. I'll definitely be tuning in to ABC, and if it's as good as I hope, I'll get the DVD too. Thanks for posting, Luke!

Aaron's comments perfectly sum up mine. The fact that Carol Burnett is the villain alone makes this worth watching for me; having Tracy and Zooey present is a nice added bonus. Hopefully this is as hilarious as I hear the stage show is. _________________ Kelvin

All I know is that it's airing in December, obviously before the DVD comes out, which narrows it down to December 3rd, 10th, or the 17th. I'm sure we'll find out in the months ahead. _________________ Kelvin

I like Disney and I like musicals. I'll be getting this. The bonus features sound promising. Though this won't be like "it's a small world" Rodger's and Hammerstein Cinderella, will it? That was a nice nod to political correctness, but kind of weird at the same time.
Is Geppetto a musical? (the one with Drew Carey) Besides Mary Poppins, The Happiest Millionaire, The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, R&H Cinderella, Annie, and The Music Man, what are the other Disney live action musicals available on DVD?
If Once Upon a Mattress does well in sales, I hope Disney does "Into the Woods" next. Or maybe BatB?
Speaking of BatB, I was watching the "making of batb" on disc 2 and the credits had Eisner talking about a live action, on location, gothic movie version. Was he serious? You think they'll ever make it? _________________

You mean the white king and black queen (Whoopi ), parents to an Asian prince?
"Into the Woods" would make an awesome Disney musical, although it might be a bit edgy for them, don't you think?

Newsies, man...that's where it's at.
A lot of the older live action Disney films are quasi-musicals, like Summer Magic and In Search of the Castaways. |

Lol, yeah. The Prince was Filipino though, so I forgive Disney . Though I was upset that they merged two of the songs together ("The Prince is Giving a Ball" and "Your Majesties"). There was one song they deleted (Boys and Girls), but that was okay since it was crappy anyway.
I never saw "Into the Woods" which is why I want Disney to make it. Though I have a book that says what its about, I won't read it because I like surprises, . I think there's a DVD of the one with Bernadette Peters. My middle school had a short preview (the song where they actually say "into the woods") and that's what made me want to see it (plus my love for anything to do with fairy/folk tales). _________________

Ah, forgive my lack of distinction. I was a kid the last time I saw it.

I was recently in this show, and it was so much fun, and I actually heard about the new version of OUAM coming out last year (Dec 2004) when we were having auditions, and I have been waiting with great anticipation. I wouldn't miss it on ABC for the world, I am a huge Carol Brunette fan, and I know it will be awesome. I have also been looking for the older version with carol as Princess Winniefred, does anyone know where I might be able to find a copy that's in fairly good condition? I know a couple people that orded it off of ebay and the quailty of the video tapes were horrible. Any help would be much appreicated! I'll be waiting for an airing date, which was all we knew about eariler and now that it's alos coming out of dvd with bonus stuff is even better!
Thanks again for this info and any more that may come my way!
Your fellow musical fanatic,
Sara

It will air October 18, and then the DVD release it TWO DAYS LATER on October 20. Imagine the marketing possibilities?
