Best Disney Cheapquel

Post by slash »

I've actually been suckered into buying some Disney cheapquels. Most have been extremely poor, some have been surprisingly good. Which Cheapquel is the best? Also, which ones did you generally like and which one did you hate? I have not included the following features because they were more TV pilots than DTV: Atlantis: Milo's Return, Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World, Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, and Tarzan & Jane.

Aladdin and the King of Thieves. I really liked its story a lot, and it was great having Robin Williams back with the rest of the cast. It didn't have great animation, but I really liked its content.

I'll wait to vote in the poll until after I've seen The Lion King 1 1/2 (I've seen all the others except Hunchback 2, Pocahontas 2 and Jungle Book 2, none of which I've heard were any good).

As of right now I'm having trouble deciding my favorite though. It's really a toss-up between Return to Neverland and The Lion King II.

I'll have to mull this one over before voting for one. For now, I'll split them up in 3 categories:

"Cheapquels" I Actually Liked
Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas
The Hunchback of Notre Dame II
Lady and the Tramp II
The Little Mermaid II
Aladdin and the King of Thieves
Return of Jafar

"Cheapquels" I Thought Were Alright, But Could Have Done Without
Return to Never Land
The Lion King II

"Cheapquels" I Haven't Yet Seen
The Jungle Book 2
The Lion King 1 1/2
Stitch! The Movie
101 Dalmatians II
Pocahontas II

And for the record, I LOATHE & DESPISE Cinderella 2

Of the ones I have seen, Return to Neverland is my favorite. I didn't like it at first, but after a second viewing, I thought it was actually very good.

The only other one I like is Lady and the Tramp 2. Oh and Stitch! The Movie

I didn't like The Little Mermaid 2 at all, a good story that had potential, and they just ruined it I think.

The Jungle Book 2 is an abomination in my book, but that might be a little harsh.

I can't bring myself to even pop Cinderella 2 into the VCR/DVD player!

The majority of them I haven't seen though. I kinda have a no Disney "cheapquel" thing. The only movies I can see a sequel to are The Rescuers and The Great Mouse Detective...they have the potential to have ongoing adventures and mysteries to solve.

I liked Stitch! The Movie. And althought it wasn't one of the choices and it wasn't entirely Disney, I did like Toy Story 2. I know that was Disney AND Pixar. Disney and Pixar had a good thing going.
Dragon, not lizard. I don't do that tongue thing.

Out of the ones listed, I went with Aladdin and the King of Thieves, but my favorite is actually Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin. People tend to overlook this movie because there's so many Pooh films out there, but to me, this is the only real Pooh sequel because it continues DIRECTLY where the original left off. I consider all other Pooh movies to be either specials (Springtime with Roo, Seasons of Giving, Christmas, Too, etc.) or spin-offs (The Tigger Movie, Piglet's Big Movie).

My personal favourite is "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas", but that's because I love Christmas and I love the original.

The best sequels are probably Return to Neverland, Lady and the Tramp 2, Rescuers Down Under (even though it's a feature), Pooh's Grand Adventure, and the Tigger Movie.

Return of Jafar. I always though this one was just like the 1st one. I also believe this was the first non theatrical feature.

I think this counts as a 'tv-pilot' sequel, but it's my favorite too, though I still haven't seen a lot of them. I also remember loving Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin. Besides that, I've seen:
Cinderella II (ahh! I haven't met one person who likes this movie, me included) :x :(
Return to Neverland
The Tigger Movie
Aladdin and the King of Thieves
Jungle Book II
and Lion King II
Still want to see Lady and the Tramp II, Hunchback II, and Lion King 1 1/2, if only to see what they're like.
