Zuzu, have any Disney films in the past released in France have forced subtitles when viewing in English?

It'd be so cool to get a copy of 'Darby' (as I've indicated elsewhere).
Hopefully they wont have forced subtitles, or at the very least will see the light of day elsewhere!

Minor quibble: it's "The Apple DUMPLING Gang", but we knew what you meant.

And I think it worth mentioning also that "Dragonslayer", although it was coproduced by Disney, was released in the US by Paramount Pictures theatrically and Paramount Home Video (save for the laserdisc, which was distributed by Columbia Home Video). If it's being released in Europe, it would be a first, as not even a VHS copy of the film is available in Europe, to my knowledge!

How has Disney's France home video unit been about releasing catalogue titles in widescreen?

RE: Darby O'Gill

According to the IMDB (which as we all know isn't always right) it was shot 1.75:1.

RE: Dragonslayer

What does 2.35 4:3 mean? Non-Anamorphic widescreen? Perhaps it's best holding out for the rumoured Paramount US release.

RE: Treasure Island

Is this a re-issue? It's been available for approx 2 or 3 years in the UK with seemingly the same specs. Has it never been released in France before (apart from in the Treasure Planet/Island box set?)

I was going to pick up 'Darby O'Gill', but if it isn't in the OAR, I won't.

Thanks for the tip, fellas (and the girlies too).

The covers look rather spiffy though, don't they?

Hopefully, other regions will follow (in OAR!).

Well at least SOME of them are widescreen. Only catalogue live-action titles Disney puts out in widescreen anymore are ones that are mislabeled as Fullscreen and are really non-anamorphic laserdisc ports. Not counting the Vault Disney ("Special Edition") line, of course.

What's up FRANCE ?

Post by gurgi »

Since the release date of July 2nd has passed, has anyone really seen those live-action DVD's in person ? The Gnome-Mobile, Son of Flubber, both Witch Mountain films, and a bunch of other "vintage" live-action DVD's were supposed to be released in France on July 2nd, but I haven't seen them listed anywhere. (Actually I've only tried Amazon France, but "anywhere" sounds better  ) Nevertheless, I'm wondering if they were released, where one can purchase them and also : where did you find those pictures of the covers ?

:?:
