Coco
Re: Pixar's Coco
I saw it yesterday. I thought it was incredible. The story was touching, the animation was gorgeous, the characters were lovable, the music was absolutely beautiful. The visuals were mind-blowing. Pixar's best, as of yet, in my opinion.

Re: Pixar's Coco
just saw this today and I loved it. Loved Miguel and mama Coco's close bond. This movie will be heart wrenching for just about anyone who has had close ties to an ailing elderly relative. You will cry buckets. My glasses got soaked.
Liked the music, though I wish some of the songs were longer...
One thing I didn't like: another Turbo/Hans-esque villain twist. Disney/Pixar needs to stop reusing this cliche already!
one more thing: anyone notice the random cat that was hanging out with Dante at the end? I thought it might be Pepita(who was awesome!)...but that doesn't make sense b/c she's Imelda's spirit animal, why would she be in the living world?

Coco is a surprise hit in China. In less than two weeks, it has already become the highest-grossing Pixar film there.

I was reading that Pixar films usually aren't a big hit there. Apparently the humor leaves Chinese audiences cold and indifferent, but something about Coco really captivated them.D82 wrote:Coco is a surprise hit in China. Yes, I didn't know they weren't big fans of Pixar before reading that article. It's curious how different their tastes in films are from the US, for example.JeanGreyForever wrote:I was reading that Pixar films usually aren't a big hit there. Re: Pixar's Coco
Yeah, China loves WDAS and Marvel, but seems to not care for Pixar and Star Wars at all. It's really interesting.
Re: Pixar's Coco
To answer: It wasn't a random cat. First you see Dante's shadow before he appears from the alley, being followed by Pepita's shadow, who appears as a small cat. I thought it was cute. Imelda was visiting the living world because of Dia De Muertas, so it figures her animal could too. Plus, Dante is also travelling both worlds. So I guess it's just something the animals can do. Although in the living world they appear as regular animals.unprincess wrote:one more thing: anyone notice the random cat that was hanging out with Dante at the end? Re: Pixar's Coco
oh neat! I need to look for that when I watch the film again. Also I was looking at a picture book tie-in at a store, turns out Imelda had a grey cat name Pepita. Maybe when animals die they turn into alejibres?Khonnor wrote: To answer: It wasn't a random cat. Oh, that's cool! The spirit animal thing! I mean I noticed the shadow before but the whole thing with them being former pets is so cute!

Re: Pixar's Coco
Coco was almost a musical. God, I wish it was.
http://variety.com/2018/film/features/f ... 202653986/So even before the opening of “Frozen” and the phenomenon of “Let It Go,” Unkrich brought the songwriters onto “Coco.” In its earliest stages, the director reveals, “we were kicking around the idea of doing a musical. As the story developed, it became a music-filled film but not a break-into-song musical. At that point they had already written ‘Remember Me.'”

Interesting. I love a good musical but that's the last thing that Disney does that Pixar hasn't yet. At a certain point, the main difference between Disney and Pixar's films will be ... the logos at the beginning being slightly different.disneyprincess11 wrote:Coco was almost a musical. Disney will always have it's own identity and Disney magic. No two people are the same either even if they have the same genes like identical twins.

Re: Pixar's Coco
Finally saw it today. After being underwhelmed by Pixar year after year after year, I was not expecting much. At the end I was ugly crying and when the credits rolled over I couldn't do anything but look at my side (towards an empty movie room) and ugly cry for more time than I would like to admit. Where did Pixar went "wrong" that made this so good?
