At least they have a director who's enthusiastic.

My, Disney is so adventurous. Not really surprising though. The fact the re-makes exist already reveals that companies hate to take risks on anything the slightest bit original.

Source: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/n ... q-a-989993Q: You recently caused a stir for your comments about whether or not the animated movie's music will be included in your Mulan. Do you feel pressure to live up to fans' expectations?
Niki Caro: No, not at all. I mean, I haven't even started on the movie yet. I haven't seen a single casting yet, and these are conversations that are all ongoing. The live-action is based on that inspirational Chinese ballad and on the animated Disney classic. We're still exploring the role that music's going to play in it, but for sure there will be music.

^She'd be perfect for that role. And, unless she has a small cameo or plays a new character, there aren't many other female roles in the film she could perform.

Re: Disney Announces Live-Action Mulan Remake
It really is a pity that she's too old to play Mulan now. She's amazing as Melinda May on Agents of SHIELD. I suppose Disney couldn't go the Star Wars/Marvel route and de-age Ming-Na on screen.

Lolz I meant more like Michael Douglas in the beginning of Ant-Man where they made him look younger. Obviously though a five minute sequence is different from the entire movie though.thedisneyspirit wrote:Another CGI puppet like Carrie Fisher...

Mulan got delayed to 2019. Most possible (but not yet confirmed) release date is November 08, 2019. They showed a new logo at the D23 Expo.

At least that logo resembled the one from the animated version.

Re: Disney Announces Live-Action Mulan Remake
I like this new logo better. I wonder if it's been pushed back because of difficulties casting Mulan or the other characters in the film. Hopefully they rework parts of the film to bring Shang back and scrap the previous love interest. I wonder if after all the backlash, they're trying to add music to the movie now.
Does this mean we won't have a live-action film next year? Besides A Wrinkle in Time and Mary Poppins Returns?

Re: Disney Announces Live-Action Mulan Remake
There's "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms" on November 02, 2018 and an "Untitled Live-Action Fairy Tale Film" on August 03, 2018 (possibly "Christopher Robin" which starts filming this summer).JeanGreyForever wrote:Does this mean we won't have a live-action film next year? Re: Disney Announces Live-Action Mulan Remake
Nutcracker is already in post-production and Mulan isn't even close to filming yet, so Disney probably just thought it made sense to put Nutcracker on the calender first. Also, being a Christmas movie, Nutcracker doesn't have the same flexibility of release date.JeanGreyForever wrote:I like this new logo better. Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, has been chosen to portray Mulan in the live-action film.

Re: Disney Announces Live-Action Mulan Remake
I'm not familiar with her but she doesn't really resemble Mulan for me. Then again, most of the top Chinese actresses don't and there's a reason that Chinese people joke about Disney's Mulan's appearance and call her ugly. A more authentic film (since the animated one wasn't at all) should probably use an actress then who fits China's standard of beauty, which this actress does.Sotiris wrote:Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, has been chosen to portray Mulan in the live-action film.

It's gonna be hard for her to pose convincingly as a man...
