Really looking forward to this movie. Will give me an excuse to read the books now as well.

Great trailer. Visually, it looks so much like I envisioned the book. I noticed the actress who plays Mellie from Scandal in a tiny role, but she looked perfect.
I think I’ll re-watch the TV movie. I re-read the book not too long ago so I’d rather just watch something right now. I’ve read the sequel books before, years ago, but I never enjoyed them as much as the original. I might try to re-read them.

Re: Disney & Jennifer Lee to Adapt "A Wrinkle in Time"
i remember liking the book as a kid, but it's been so long that I don't really remember it at all.
That said, I'm pretty interested in this one, since it's felt like ions since Disney's committed to a live-action film that isn't a remake of their animated films, a forgettable sports film, or another reminder that they're not great at sci-fi tentpoles. This looks a little different than the latter, and has a great director at the helm, so I'm hopeful.

Well, Disney tried--and failed--at adapting the novel to film in 2003, but I understand what you're saying.Avaitor wrote:i remember liking the book as a kid, but it's been so long that I don't really remember it at all.

A Wrinkle in Time is one of my forever books, so I'm really looking forward to this new adaptation. The cast looks superb--especially Mrs. Whatsit, Which, and Who. Let's hope for the best with this new film.

Not crazy about the poster, but I'm glad the trailer will be airing during the AMAs because I'll be watching anyway for the Pink/Kelly opening and Christina's Whitney/Bodyguard medley.

The new trailer was nice, but I'm a little scared that with all the promotion Disney's putting into this that it's not going to do as well as they hope.

I also have the impression it won't be too successful, but I don't know how popular the books are. If they are very famous, that will help the movie.Disney's Divinity wrote:The new trailer was nice, but I'm a little scared that with all the promotion Disney's putting into this that it's not going to do as well as they hope.

The book is actually a touch cheesy and I'm not sure if it's as popular with today's youth as people in the past. I'd love to be proven wrong though.D82 wrote: I also have the impression it won't be too successful, but I don't know how popular the books are. If they are very famous, that will help the movie.
I do expect it to pull in some big cash, but with all that Disney must be putting into promoting this movie, the budget must be huge and I don't know if I can see it pulling in the kind of dough they'll want...
Btw, I don't know if I've said before, but I love the way the logo has that slash of light between the n and m of the title.

I see. Yeah, maybe it isn't as popular as it was before then.Disney's Divinity wrote:The book is actually a touch cheesy and I'm not sure if it's as popular with today's youth as people in the past. I'd love to be proven wrong though.
The movie itself also looks expensive. It has a lot of special effects.Disney's Divinity wrote:I do expect it to pull in some big cash, but with all that Disney must be putting into promoting this movie, the budget must be huge and I don't know if I can see it pulling in the kind of dough they'll want...
I love that too. In fact, it's one of my favorites from the latest Disney film logos. I don't know why, but it reminds me a bit of the Chronicles of Narnia logo, which I also love.Disney's Divinity wrote:Btw, I don't know if I've said before, but I love the way the logo has that slash of light between the n and m of the title.

I'm all for something that isn't a sequel these days.
Plus, what a cast. I have some hope that this will be good. Ava should deliver.

Re: Disney & Jennifer Lee to Adapt "A Wrinkle in Time"
I'm not familiar with the property so my impressions are solely based on the trailers. The visuals are lush and appealing and the cast is strong but the overall conceit as well as the plot come off a little clichéd and derivative, possibly due to the dated original material. The brief scene with Galifianakis that functioned as comic relief was not to my liking and the "Do you trust me?" exchange between the protagonist and the love interest (?) was cheesy. I also liked the logo, as well as the rendition of Sweet Dreams.
Is there a pre-built fanbase for the novel? I doubt there is one for the negatively-received TV film. The already-positive buzz and the inevitably good reviews will boost its performance but whether it'll be deemed a success depends on Disney's expectations and the money they spent on it. It looks expensive and they are heavily promoting it. I'm hoping its budget isn't too high. I predict it's going to be successful but won't gross over half a billion worldwide.
The nature-based CG character reminded of concept art for King of the Elves.

New still and some new details about the film:
Source: https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/mov ... 983389001/Director Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of the classic children’s sci-fi novel casts 14-year-old Storm Reid as Meg Murry, a young girl who goes on an epic adventure through time and space searching for her astrophysicist father (Chris Pine). It’s a quest she isn't ready for: “Meg is very timid and just doesn’t feel like she’s worthy. She doesn’t really have any self-love," Reid says. "She’s doubting herself and obviously very scared — I would be scared, too.” That’s why three colorful travelers are key to Meg’s mission and her blooming confidence: the kind Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), the wise Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling) and the grandmotherly Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon). Through the youngster’s journey, Reid adds, “she becomes one with the light in the universe to be able to connect with her father and becomes a better Meg to be able to save the world.”
Re: Disney & Jennifer Lee to Adapt "A Wrinkle in Time"
A Wrinkle in Time is in the 8th position of Fandango's list of 2018's most anticipated movies. I don't know if that means it will be a hit or not, but at least there's some interest in the film. Incredibles 2 is also on the list, but that's not a surprise.
