Disneyland USA - 1970?

Post by Tannerman »

I was glancing at the tin to my copy of Disneyland USA the other day, and noticed something I didn't quite understand. Namely, the date range printed on the blue band:

Image

In the yellow area on the blue band, it states: "Originally Broadcast Between 1955 and 1970". Now, if I'm not mistaken, the 4 shows featured on the discs are dated 1954, 1955, 1962, and 1965.

The date range on the cover might include footage from other sections of the DVDs, such as the limited bonus materials, but the 1970 date seemed like a stretch. Anyone care to pinpoint what material is from this date?

I think you're right. Both the begin and end date should be earlier, going by the program airdates. The Chronological Donald was a bit off, too. It said "Between 1936 and 1941" and the earliest shorts were from 1934.

Perhaps they showed repeats of the Disneyland USA programmes up until 1970?

They've probably been locked in the vaults since then...

No, that one was from 1962.

None of them were from 1944. The 4 shows were from 1954, 1955, 1962 & 1965.

I took a look at the supplimental features for this last night... with that video montage that Maltin does, trying to see if there was any new footage... and I didn't see any. There seemed to be some footage in there that wasn't in any of the 4 shows, but it contained Walt, therefore it was definetely not from 1970.

If you look at the Poster Gallery, there are obviously attractions featured there that are 1970 and beyond (like Splash Mountain, which was mid-80's).

Unless we are missing something there, it might just be a goof. I guess we'll never know unless we contact the DVD producer or Maltin.
