That probably might've been the case.disneyphilip wrote: And why did Muppets Studio head Lylle Brier even bother to announce Season 4's release at the 2009 D23 Expo in the first place? When will we see The Muppet Show Season 4 & 5 on DVD?

Too true. I hope that Luke or one of our other Admins can shed some light on the subject.Mickeyfan1990 wrote:That probably might've been the case.disneyphilip wrote: And why did Muppets Studio head Lylle Brier even bother to announce Season 4's release at the 2009 D23 Expo in the first place? Re: When will we see The Muppet Show Season 4 & 5 on DVD?
At this point, I've given up on seasons 4 and 5 of The Muppet Show (and Muppets Tonight! for that matter).
My mindset is: "if they come out, that'll be awesome, but I'm not holding my breath".
My mindset is: "if they come out, that'll be awesome, but I'm not holding my breath".
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

If there were any updates to give, they'd have been given already.disneyphilip wrote:Please give us updates on the Muppet Show Season 4 and 5 DVD's now, please.

So it appears all the rights have been cleared!:
https://www.facebook.com/ed.mccray/post ... 8441465120
"If you go to Muppet Central there's numerous references and links there that there's no rights issues on Season 4 and 5 and Disney keeps promising they're coming but continues to delay. They even did a D23 announcement a few years ago. The clearances happened because of the backlash over Season 1 and even then Henson released some of those uncut through Time Life. I remember reading Disney went back and got those 6 cuts cleared after the backlash proved there was a market for it. Disney doesn't seem to care about pushes. They've promised several release dates for season 4 only to not release it. They were going to tie it in with the 2 big feature films but didn't. Now the latest word is they don't want these out now because it would confuse people with the new show."
How hard is it to differentiate between 2 shows? The title alone is pretty clear which is which. It's time we tell Disney to release the remaining seasons (and a uncut re-release of Season 1), especially since the show turns 40 this year

I know for a fact there are people at Disney working hard to figure this out. I also have learned over the years getting rights clearance for DVD releases is not as easy as it seems, depending on the title. There are so many variables. Hopefully this is figured out sooner rather than later. Although I full understand if some feel it's later already.

Bumping this thread because apparently and surprisingly(!), it's not just the music rights that's keeping seasons 4 and 5 at bay.
First, it's been said that the (living) musicians still have to be paid:
http://www.muppetcentral.com/forum/thre ... 569/page-3
And the backing tracks for seasons 4 and 5 have been wiped (I'm surprised this was never brought to our attention til now considering the article is almost a year old):
https://muppetmindset.wordpress.com/201 ... hn-denver/
The last issue though shouldn't be a problem. 9 Season 4 episodes and 12 Season 5 episodes still exist with the backing track via the Time Life DVDs and the 1994 TV masters probably still exist. All Disney has to do is make composites.
But with these 3 issues, it's no wonder why it's taking so long!

‘The Muppet Show’ Heads To Disney+
https://deadline.com/2021/01/the-muppet ... 234675633/
I am so excited! I'm curious as to if they'll ever be released on disc, or if whatever issues (music, other) there have been holding up those releases continue to exist, but streaming counts as a whole other ballpark.
