It depends if WIR ends up being both a massive critical success and a box office smash, especially if it outdoes Brave in both areas. Then again, Tangled also did a lot of money and got better reviews than Princess and the Frog, and that one was completely snubbed.

I think Disney will stick with Brave, so-so reviews and all, because it has more "prestige" to it. Which is a shame since even if WIR is comedic if it turns out to be really good it would be nice for Disney to honor it instead of Pixar yet again.

Pixar's making a Disneylike movie while Disney is making a more Pixar like movie.I think this means that maybe Pixar's trying to give Disney more push at movie making.Or even better making Disney take on a Pixar premise and multidemographic appeal. While Pixar will be doing a story that is more Disney's ally.Maybe both studios are getting outside their comfort zones to explore other territorries.

I certainly hope that's the case. I love Disney and I love Pixar, but it would be refreshing to see them tackle other stories and ideas that are outside their comfort zone. Of course, the fanboys/fangirls and critics will bash them for it unless it is absolutely PERFECT.

I wonder if the fans would not have been mad if it was Disney doing Brave and Pixar doing Wreck It Ralph.I know both movies have been in the making for years but I have a feeling that fans always expect something from both companies.Disney is always getting flack when it doesn't do fairy tales and is given flack if they do fairy tales.Heck, even when Walt Disney was alive he was given that type of flack.I think Pixar's going to be feeling that kinda of flack from critics and fans.

That will always be the case with Disney, and the same seems to be happening to Pixar right now. I get that when you do something really, really good people expect you to always do it or outdo it in some way, shape or form. But I think that mentality will cripple any company as innovation, taking risks and creating new things is what keeps any company alive, afloat and relevant. But alas, people just want to stay in the "safe" area and not give anything different a chance.

UD member TonyWDA made two videos about this situation in particular. The first is a response to MarzGurl's review of Atlantis, a movie she completely bashed because it wasn't the typical Disney film she expected:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/epflAX4O13U" frameborder="0"></iframe>

He made another one for Home on the Range, another movie that gets flack for not being like Disney:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mBPkNg15TNQ" frameborder="0"></iframe>

I get that both movies are flawed and some criticisms are valid. But a lot of Disney fans seem to hate these movies because it is Disney doing something different from the norm and thus they shun it.

I am getting this vibe from these Brave reviews. I am cautious about it, even in my excitement. But if the biggest complain is that it is more like a Disney movie, then we know what the problem could be with some people.

Atlantis fan here, I hated Home on the Range because aside from the villain, it was a pretty weak movie with any bite compromised by the execs desire to make fast food toys more feasible and Rosanne Barr and Cuba Gooding Jr's characters were unlikable and annoying. Kind of a whimper for 2D to go out on compared to Brother Bear which would have been the more dignified way before they switched the release dates.

I would have preferred we gotten Sweating Bullets. At least there the premise of a western ghost story was interesting.

Honestly, as much as I am looking forward to Brave, I'm scared that it'll end up being a flop, financially and critically. And so far, only 70% of critics on RottenTomatoes liked it. :(

This is kind of why I'm preventing myself from watching any preview clips, so I don't get too excited, I won't set my expectations too high and I won't feel let down if the movie isn't really that great. And believe me, I've never been disappointed by a Pixar movie. Well, besides Cars and its sequel, both of which aren't really my most favorite Pixar movies.

Yea. Disney becoming un-Disney and being Pixar is good. Disney turning into not Disney is good. Yea.

The soundtrack is now for sale on iTunes.

I'm about 6 tracks in right now, but as a Celtic nutjob, I am loving it. The two Julie Fowlis songs "Touch the Sky" and "Into the Open Air" are gorgeous. The Birdy/Mumford & Sons song is amazing. Very folksy. I'm sure some won't like how flavorful this album is, but whatever, if you like folk/celtic music, and soaring flutes and bagpiping, this is a gem.

I found it by searching 'brave' and it came up right away. Are you in the U.S.? If not, that might explain it.

Also for sale on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Brave/dp/B00899D0 ... ords=brave

I don't think I've ever seen the Rotten Tomatoes score of a film be scrutinised so closely  . Either way, the only opinions that matter are our own individual ones so I wouldn't worry too much about the RT score. I've read more positive reviews than negative (not that I've read many overtly negative ones) so I really don't think that Brave will be the disaster that some seem to worry it might be.

On a side note, with some reviews saying that the strength of Brave's story isn't on the level of Pixar's best and that the comedy of the film is childish, it does make me wonder how much Pixar might be missing the influence of the late Joe Ranft.

Here's a review that really enjoys the film. Not as much as some of Pixar's previous (go figure!) but he does have an interesting note about the criticisms regarding the movie.

I just knew it would be a deconstruction of the rebellious princess archtype.I also like how it says that both women seek empowerment by understanding each other and growing from their mistakes.I also like from the looks of things that Merida is going to be the one learning the lesson.

So... buy the album. What is this sense of entitlement that we keep running into on this board? You can buy the entire 20 song album for 9.99. That's a whopping 50 cents a track.

1.29 has been the standard for new or popular tracks on iTunes for at least a few years now.
