Both that pose of Rapunzel and that background have been around long before. The castle background was one of the first concept arts we saw and Rapunzel's pose is a very commonly used clipart. However, I know that Rapunzel pose in this picture was re-drawn in the style of the illustrations for the film's books (it does not match how an actual hand-drawn film image would look) and I believe the castle was re-drawn in the same illustration style, too. I can't dig up the images but at least you have the info.blackcauldron85 wrote:I just got this email, and I love love love love love the picture of Rapunzel on the right. Have any of you seen this picture before? Maybe I've seen it before, but I don't remember it if I have.
It looks very "painterly" to me. Like what Tangled could have been if it were hand-drawn!
*edit*
Haha, of course I never notice anything. Look at the background, too!!!

Your welcome!
Okay, I wanted to hold this back til I reviewed the movie, but I wrote a really long review that would just be too much for people to read, let's just say gogeous animation, the most moving and emotional CGI animation I have ever seen, great songs I love except for I've Got a Dream, great characters I love, only one error in Flynn not trying to be healed first and having to cut her hair before that because Mother Gothel tries to pull Rapunzel back since she doesn't need to be by him, all in all really almost a full Disney Classic to me except for the changed title and main character backgrounds (and some of the too quick modern cynical humor, some humor or animation done over-the-top silly/just plain badly, and the horse or chameleon always being stuck in to save boys from boredom of too beautiful, classic, or princessy moments). This is probably one of Disney best classics, seriously, which means its a shame about the un-classic title.
I know that a lot of you are sick about the title and sick about me hoping for it to be changed back some day against the impossible odds, but as the film says "I've got a dream" and this time I'm pointing out something rather big to help my case, okay?
But here it is, the main thing I've wanted to point out for so long. Okay, so the LA Times revealed that Disney changed the name to Tangled not to fit the film but just to get more boys to see it because they feel they messed up with the title of The Princess and the Frog.
Then, the directors, Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, said that they changed the title, and it fit more, because the film was actually about Flynn and Rapunzel, it wasn't mainly Rapunzel's film.
But when I actually saw the movie, I could not believe what I heard in the very, very beginning no less.
Flynn says, "This is the story of how I died. But don't worry, this is actually a very fun story, and the truth is, it isn't even mine. This is the story of a girl named Rapunzel."
W. T. F. THE DIRECTORS FLAT OUT LIED. And we have PROOF, within the film itself no less.

Did you really think that the directors would admit that the company changed the name of their film for marketing purposes? Of course they wouldn't do that, they're going to give the reasons they did and say that it was done for creative reasons rather than say that the company panicked and thought they would scare audiences away if the title was "Rapunzel". I don't think anyone doubts that marketing played a big part in Disney's decision to rename the film but I wouldn't say the directors flat-out lied but rather were following the company line as most people would; we all had an idea of the real reasoning given that we'd heard about Disney's fears after Princess and the Frog's performance so it's not really surprising that the directors would put the change down to creative reasons.

Duster this is old news now. I thought you of all people would of already known this.
Mandy Moore and Donna Murphy have post expressed their shock/upset with the title change and have both openly stated the title was changed to attract a larger male audience.

I know I was surprised they used that line aswell.Disney Duster wrote:No, you don't get it. I did already knew that. I was saying the film itself is proof against their lies. Because it shows they obviously did lie, they said they changed it because the film was about both, the film itself says it isn't!

Yes, we did get it and what we were saying is that everybody pretty much already knew that that was the case. It's not like they're going to say "we wanted to call the film Rapunzel but Disney ordered us to change the name because they were scared that it would scare boys away from watching it". It was reported in the media that Disney were scared of promoting a film whose title carried obvious connotations of princesses and fairy tales and the title of Rapunzel gets changed to Tangled...it's not difficult to connect the dots in this case, whether you've seen the film or not.

Thanks Khonnor.
Disney Live On: It's from the Disney Store's Animator's Collection. They have a large selection of different Disney girls as little girls. This one of course is straight out of the movie, ha. The girl I made this for, she wanted Rapunzel, but on the day she went, they didn't have her, so she bought Belle instead. I personally think Belle is the cutest of the dolls, though this one is also very cute (all of them are, really). I guess Tiana and Ariel have been seen at this age before also, so they are both probably based on their film versions too. The others of course required more invention from the toy makers, I guess, or maybe they are all based on designs from the animators, since it's the "Animators' Collection". Should have read the back of the box before I wrapped it up, ha, but I guess I was excited to make a basket! Anyway, these dolls aren't bad at only 24.99 or something like that. Plus, when they are on sale, they're like 20. Jeez, I just missed them on sale, too.

She's more interesting and recognizable with her long hair. Just like Pinocchio is better known as a puppet and the Beast is better known as a beast.blackcauldron85 wrote:I thought of something last night! So, you know how some fans are kind of outraged that Rapunzel, whether in merchandise or in the park, has her long blonde hair? What about Pinocchio? He's always portrayed as a wooden puppet-boy still!
