Really, I know I grew up with/knew the movie version of Mary Poppins longer, but for some reason, I don't love it as much as I do the Broadway/stage version. The strange part? I have no idea why.

It's too hard to compare stage and film, I find. Watching something on stage is completely different than watching a film. You get a different vibe. There are things that work on stage that don't on film, and vice versa. The acting is extremely different as well. Although I did enjoy the Broadway one immensely, and I was very impressed with the special effects and set, the two are far to different for me to pick. And there's also the fact that I've only seen the Broadway one once, and the movie hundreds of times.

I haven't seen it on stage but I have the London cast album and I wasn't impressed by the new songs.

I haven't seen the stage show, but I did like several of the songs better from the cast recording than the film--"Superfragilisticexpialidocious," especially, is more lively (to me) on the cast recording.

The stage show is fantastic. The changes made work because they're all done for the stage. Both are amazing in my opinion.

I saw the stage show once (not on Broadway, but on tour) and I really wasn't impressed with Act Two. I was kind of bored to be perfectly honest. I guess I had high expectations, but was let down when I could see how Bert was able to walk on the proscenium and how MP was able to fly over the audience. I guess if I was a kid, it would have felt more magical. I did love Act One though!!

I'm so annoyed. Mary Poppins is playing in my town on my birthday, but the seats are over 300 dollars for anywhere that you can SEE the show. I've been dying to see this show, and I wanted to take someone with me too, if not multiple someones. Really wanted a souvenir umbrella too.

I don't know. Maybe I don't know where to buy tickets. When I go to the show's official website, it directs me to buy tickets from some local theater organization that you have to be a member of, and when I go to the venue's site, it the best seats are over 300, and I'm hearing awful reviews about the other seating. The only seats under a hundred are in the back of the second balcony, and I hear everyone looks like ants from there. I'm trying to get tickets for the Bass Concert Hall in Austin for the 15th of April. I'm totally frustrated.

I managed to find the actual site for purchasing tickets for this venue, but only by using a link for a different Austin show on Ticketmaster. Once I got to the website the venue sells through, I went to the calendar and found Poppins! I managed to get two tickets, even though I can hardly spare the cash. They were 100 each for balcony seats. Well, they were 90, plus 10 for processing or something, then like 3 for any of the options of receiving my tickets (I of course chose to just print them out, ridiculous that they charge ME for that). I am hoping to take this friend of mine who I wanted to be my girlfriend but seems to want to just be friends or is waiting to make sure I can secure a job, ha, which I have never been good at. She already agreed to go, so the pressure was on to get the tickets, but I also have always wanted to see the show.

Has Little Mermaid ever gone on tour? I HAVE to see that one! And is Lion King totally over, or could that come around to my city again? I'd like to see any and all Disney shows, but I've only seen three shows so far: Beauty and the Beast and the Music Man in San Antonio, and We Will Rock You in London.

Anyway, I hope the seats I got were good. They were the highest price range, apparently, but they are still balcony seats because the floor seats were gone except for the very back. Don't know why that other site was charging 400 for certain seating. It was like a scalping site, I guess, but appeared like a normal ticket buying site. Wish I remembered what it was. Anyway, I'm a bit disappointed my mom and sis can't go with me too (can't afford more than 2 tickets, and they wouldn't want bad seats), and I hope my "date" doesn't cancel, or I will have to choose one of them. And I hope it is a decent view. For once, it would be nice to not be so far away for one of these shows...

Oh, I wanted to ask, for those of you who have seen this show on tour, when is the best time to pick up a souvenir? Can it be done after the show? If I want an adult Poppins umbrella, will there be any left after the show? I have always wanted one. And anyone who knows, how much are they and does it say Mary Poppins or something on the actual umbrella? Because I would prefer it look more like hers and not like a big ad for the musical. Any other good souvenirs there besides shirts and CDs? Hope I'm not broke when I actually go, though, ha.

Well, if you want an umbrella, there's no title on the umbrella, except on the button strap thing that holds the umbrella closed. I should know because I got one of those umbrellas for my sister aty the New Amsterdam Theater when I saw the show a second time during my visit to New York a few weeks ago.

Unfortunately, I was able to only get it then because the day before, no other store in Times Square had a Mary Poppins umbrella besides the child-sized ones. Regardless, my sister loves the umbrella. I would have got it for myself when I saw the show the first time back in 2011, but I couldn't do that because my grandmother promised a month before she died that I could have her Mary Poppins umbrella (which she got from the Disney Catalogue a little over a decade ago and replicates the umbrella in the movie) once I graduate, which will happen this May. By the way, slave2moonlight, I suggest you buy the umbrella as soon as you get to the theater before the show starts, just to be safe. Oh, and get there possibly twenty or thirty minutes before it starts. Also, the CD they're selling is the live Australian cast recording, though, if it were me, I'd get the original London cast recording instead. Not to hold a bias against the Australian recording, but I prefer the London cast.

I prefer the more energetic film version. Same with Step in Time. I think they really could've done better with that scene, though walking up the wall was pretty cool.

Thanks so much for the tips! The CD tip is helpful too! Is the show umbrella vastly different from the film one? Does it at least look really nice and obviously Mary Poppins-y? Ha. I wanted her umbrella ever since I was a little kid. Would love to get that Disney Catalog one someday though. I remember when it was in there and saying I wanted it! Oh, how much should I expect to pay for the Adult Umbrella at the show, and do they have anything else you thought would make a neat souvenir besides the expected shirts and cds?

The most you can pay for the adult umbrella is about $40, which is a bit much for one umbrella, but it's worthwhile. Also, it looks a little more like the umbrella she uses in the stage show.

Thanks for the info, and one other question. Do I need to have cash to purchase souvenirs at the show, or can I use a debit card? I assume they take cards, but I just wanna be sure (but, as I was able to buy girl scout cookies recently with a card, I suppose everyone is prepared for such a charge now).
