If you have read the original, That's essentially is what it is. Also grab few influence from Flash Gordan.

But it's still a great series I've read.

The second one would be better if it didn't have that alien dog thing that looks like a hamburger on it.

Saw this article elsewhere online:

Needing to make $700 million worldwide to justify a sequel sounds like an unrealistic goal for a movie with so much going against it. I hope I'm proven wrong, but if not this will just be another of Disney's failed franchise attempts.

Problems plague "John Carter" and "47 Ronin" as studios place $200 million-plus bets on untested auteurs.

I hope John Carter does great, so that we will see sequels, but Disney seems sceptic;
"Disney, which had anticipated John Carter as a trilogy, held off on discussing the next installment."

But there might still be hope;
"(...) it's far too soon to write a John Carter obituary. "I've got a lot of faith in this guy," one former Disney insider says of Stanton. "Remember: Finding Nemo was supposed to be the first Pixar flop.""

I just watched the Japanese trailer that BlackCauldronFan posted last page. It was better than the American (probably because it had a LOT more period scenes). I liked John Carter's tombstone at the end. "Inter Mundos." Between worlds, it looks like. Very fitting.

I don't much about John Carter, but I'm interested from what I've read here. They really need to step up the advertising though and make sure people in general know that this has story and comes from a well established material. Some ads could have something about 100 years from its first publication and a saga that ran for.......

One thing I was thinking though, is some of these movies could benefit from a special screening on TV. What I mean is take the first 25 minutes or whatever and make it a feature on TV and maybe YouTube. This then generates revenue for Disney, because networks would pay them to have it or in the case of ABC, they would be making money off Advertising and hopefully (depend on the footage) will leave viewers wanting more. Just an idea, not sure if it has been done before (well, I know they've done, for example, the first 10 minutes of National Treasure (edited) online).

Look forward to seeing it though.

So,basically this will be Disney's version of Avatar but without James Cameron and the preachiness. :lol:

It would be good if this movie doesn't have the preachiness because then I would instantly groan and fall asleep.

John Carter And Avatar have nothing in common other than maybe the main character joining with the tribe of alien planet(but that's troupe been done numerous times). If you had to make a comparison it would be akin to Flash Gordon and Tarzan.

The latter especially since it created by same guy, Edgar Rice Burroughs.

I doesn't. It's an action Epic like Flash Gordon.

If you know anything of of John Carter, you know that

- it's not created by Disney

- it's more of a pulp novel series and later became a comic series just like Tarzan.

Disney should of plan out and played better with their marketing for the movie. They did in so too late once they realize the suggestive outcome. Had they been smart they would of made promote and advertise the movie a year or two prior consistently though many comic fandom world such as have they're now Marvel company advertise it through form of comic, illustrations, video games etc or re-promote the novels again to bring awareness of them to the public.

They're making same mistake probably that they did with Prince of Persia.

Indeed, the marketing and promotion for the film have been underwhelming. Although there is positive buzz from people who attended screeners (which means the actual film must be good), all the official material released so far including trailers and TV promos leave the viewer uninterested, indifferent, with a 'same old same old' aftertaste.

Over 95 High Resolution Images from JOHN CARTER
We’re only a few weeks away from the release of Disney’s epic John Carter, and a large batch of high resolution images have been released. We’ve seen some of the images before, but we also get some really cool behind-the-scenes images that show just how director Andrew Stanton captured many of the effects-heavy portions of the film.
